i been thinking about getting this upgrade for my delta 6'' jointer but it cost almost as much as the machine when i bought it new ... anyway i'am holding off until i up grade to a 8" jointer with one already installed... they say like yourself what a big difference very smooth cut wit no small ripples from straight knifes scoops... and you can rotate the square cutter heads 4 times.... awesome upgrade thanks for sharing
I have a Grizzley 8" jointer that had a straight knif head. Bought the Grizzley spiral head in the early 2000s and it didn't fit...had to grind the casting back. Works great!
Excellent video, Kevin. It's odd - professionally, I've dismantled and reassembled scientific instruments costing 10s of thousands, but I confess I'm intimidated by the idea of tackling something like this. I won't claim you've given me the confidence to do it, but your video shows that it isn't magic. Thank you.

segmented cutters are such an improvement!
I've used straight knife jointers for 53 years. Two weeks ago I said: eh! get with it! Straight knife cutter heads really are a thing of the past.

I've been around this cast iron junk for 53 years and I still found myself apprehensive about replacing that cutter head. Go figure:)
I enjoy your posts! Greetings from Hollywood California.
