Sadly, they rushed this episode pretty bad. It barely even scratches the surface about what Romania is all about.
The jello thing is probably the best food in the world. It looks shady, but it tastes heavenly. :) Seriously, if it's one thing the Romanians are good at, that's the food. Probably the best food in Europe. But don't trust me, just look at the vloggers who visited Romania and actually tried the foods.
I'm Romanian and I hate that dish. Even just the smell makes me want to throw up. My brother doesn't like it either... Most Romanians my age that I know hate it as well... Lol
As for the food: Romanians basically just love vegetables and meat. Some of it is tasty, but it can look a bit yucky at times.

yes, the food is amazing. It's basically comfort food. That video shows some delicacies normally only eaten in families, like piftie or drob, so you don't need to worry about those, unless you purposefully seek them out. I personally don't like the traditional cold cut meat stuff (with exceptions, of course), but that's fine, because being such a geographically diverse country, we have a lot of regional cuisines. I love the southern cooking, which has A LOT of amazing fresh vegetables. The heavier, meaty dishes are from the mountainous region. To cut into the heaviness of some dishes, we are pretty big on side dishes like veggie salad or various pickled or fermented veggies (and on the weekends and special occasions, a bit of tart cherry liquor, palinca, wine or beer). The idea is to balance out the heaviness of the dishes with something sour. It was very hard for me when i lived in other countries to eat dishes without a salad or pickles on the side, because i'm used to each bite contrasting the feel of the one before and with a palate cleanser. Romanian food is not meant to be just one big bowl of something, it's meant to be an experience with a bit of contrast and balance. We also like spicy foods and we season our dishes very generously with herbs and veggies. You'd also love our deserts and I bet our grandma's doughnuts and crepes will make you want to just move here permanently
