The two running jokes about this game that my brother and I have to this day are: 1. This game has the same plot as Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker. 2. When you take off your mask at the end of the day, your guy looks remarkably like Wayne Newton. Danke schoen.
'Master, what's up?' - I wish all movies about Ninjas or Samurai would be this chill. The thugs at 3:21 lose their glasses when hit and make the Kirby face. Hold on to your umbrella! You strangle a bad guy to near death and he says 'Hey, watch it.'. This is the cinematic stuff that all the kids talk about nowadays!
Really wish this would have been called "Wrath of the Black Mamba" ... RIP Kobe! What's with the cut scene art work of the guy who looks like Joker? Creepy man. Thanks for the video brother!
Holy Shit, I did not expect a MTV VJ Jesse Camp reference. Did you know it was all an act? He wasn't a "street kid" he actually was from a well off family and even went to a private school in Connecticut. That is more info than anyone should ever need on Jesse Camp.
This was one earlier games I rented after I got my NES. I didn't get very far from what I recall, and I haven't played it since. It was no Ninja Gaiden that was for sure.
I remember loving the Arcade game Shinobi and being jealous of my friend Mike who had it on the Sega Master System. I had a NES, and there was no port of Shinobi. I luckily didn't know about the lackluster NES port of Shinobi, and bought Wrath of the Black Manta when the store clerk told me it was a clone of Shinobi. I thought it was a good substitute, although I knew it wasn't a 5-star game as Shinobi was. It's a solid 4-star game in my book, though. But the NES had Rolling Thunder and Code Name Viper which were 5-star games and perfect Shinobi substitutes.
I jokingly like to call this game A Poor Man's Shinobi as that is what it's trying to imitate. I'm not really a comic guy so I did not know about the faces being based off of that How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way book. Interesting.
I bought it as a kid based on the visuals and big sprites seen in Nintendo Power... what a mistake. Between the difficulty and lack of variety, especially in the the sound department, it gets boring fairly quick IMO. I wish you covered a bit more of the regional differences. I'm curious to know if it's enough to warrant picking up the Famicom version.
Based on your issues with this one - I wouldn't think the Famicom version is different enough for you. Maybe worth a shot though? Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

I haven't played this game in forever. Your video has give me the urge to give it another go.
Happy to hear that! It's a decent afternoon.

Tiny is such a great boss sprite!
His real name is Gary and he loves PBR, night fishing, and Ford.
@@NESFriend That all makes sense lolk
Cutscenes were so off in this one at times. Great video!

Good mod idea!

You should give it another run. I think you can beat it in a couple tries.

*taking notes*
I think I'd better stay away from the sewers today. Thank you, NES Friend!
I'm sewer free since ’93! (We don't talk about what happened then)
One of my favourite games!!!!
I remember seeing screen shots of Tiny and being totally baffled by this game. Main map areas seem to have lots of similarities with Rolling Thunder.
Tiny seems like a cool guy.
@@NESFriend I assume he gives the best hugs
I remember seeing Tiny and thinking how awesome he looked for an NES game. Reminded me a lot of Rolling Thunder and Shinobi.
Lol, I remember Jessie! Never played this game, but Ninjas were all the rage back in the 80’s. Could be a good Stuck in the 80’s episode 😉
I like it! Do it!

I found that to be very interesting they found their inspirations there. I bet there is a ton of that no one catches.

For some reason I always forget its manta and not mantis, it seems like mantis would be a better name anyway
gg 🎉
I wish I could stay out of the sewers... I work for the water and sewer department smh🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No, don't remember Jesse. I am going to look it up then report back
