I was mistaking Guyana for Diana in the last track. My apologies, but thats what i was hearing lol

Right. It’s Guyana on the north coast of South America. It’s where Jim Jones had The Peoples Temple.
Quite the horrific story. There are a few documentaries on the whole subject.

    Sorry my dear:
Guyana is the country the cult took place. It's not about a person who's name is Diana.
isn't the song officially named "Guyana (in the cult of the damned)"?

The different notes Joey was playing in the Moutain song is technique called flageolets. It is the only rock/metal song someone use this technique that I am aware of.

I highly recommend after all the albums to add a special episode with their EP records that are not included in any album - The Dawn of Battle, Thunder in the Sky (song Father in your native language if it is not english), The Final Battle and The Revenge of Odysseus (+ single Laut und Hart Stark und Schnell)

The Dawn of Battle was originally supposed to be part of the Warriors Of the world album. Such a shame they split it up like that.

Joe has different bass guitars and all are custom basses of his own. Among other things, he often uses an 8-string bass like in the song Berge, which works similarly to a 12-string guitar, but he also uses piccolo basses.

Sign of the Hammer Album has always that special sound on it which only is on this Manowar Album...perhaps the bass sound or guitar. I really like it

A good Manowar album, I have it on vinyl. It is more a "raw" sounding album. I wonder would you would thing of the songs Mountains, being as different of a song it is.
I have not heard this album in many. many years. For the song Guyana, he's singing Guyana, not Diana. If you ever hear the phrase they drank the Kool-Aid, this is where it originates from. Jim Jones was an American cult leader and mass murderer who led the Peoples Temple between 1955 and 1978. In what he termed "revolutionary suicide", Jones and the members of his inner circle planned and orchestrated a mass murder-suicide in his remote jungle commune at Jonestown, Guyana, on November 18, 1978. If you want the whole story of the twisted events you can read it online.

    • @TheMetalJunkie
      @TheMetalJunkie  3 місяці тому +1

Yes I knew it was about the mass suicide but i just really heard Diana instead of Guyana lol

Goddam this album brings back so many great memories.
Eric is singing "Gy-anna", not Diana.
The biggest story of 78 was the mass suicide in Guyana.
Reverend Jim Jones was a psychopath. Read the story, it's very sad and tragic. The last 3 "Mother, mother, mother" was a tragic ending to an otherwise brilliant album.
As for the album, this to me was the best album of 1984. No bad songs on it.
Thank you for listening to this masterpiece.
This album is when I got off the Manowar train.
I thought Fighting the World was mediocre at best.
X Sign Of The Hammer X brought back so many great memories.

Fun fact: This album was released in the same year as Hail to England but with a different label. And in fact every their record up to The Lord of Steel (2012) was released by different label.
They had really hard times in their history which is partly the reason why they didn't break through that much, even though they are excellent musicians.

the title track has actually been written/recorded last just because they had to fill the time/space on the CD. and it turned out to be one of their greatest

This is a great album, as are basically all of Manowars' early albums. This one even influenced Bathory to some degree, particularly the song "The Oath". Good shit.

Mountains is a homage about the US soldiers who lost their lives in Vietnam, Manowar's penchant being anti-war is shown in the song, as well as Death Tone and Shell Shock from Battle Hymns, which you have heard.

Their most progressive album...simply great! Expect a deep drop down to the next one. Desperately hunting for a big hit, simple and generic. (with the castrated "Defender" on it...)
(And don't expect Scott on drums at FTW-album. He didn't spend even a single minute in studio - it's a computer)
"Hey Scott, btw: We have a new album. You sound great..." LOL

@@DB-bx7fm Sorry, told exacly what I'm talking about. Can not be more precise...Just take the time to compare the last 2 minutes of the 2 Defender-Versions. (Nowadays we would call this cancel culture - Joey's cancelling Ross and Eric -an d destroed the song to make it more accessible for a wider range of people, that's hunting for a big hit). Or pay attention to the decrease of musical complexity in general, compared to the previous albums...

@@sarcasticconsultant378 I love Ross, realy great guy, but he has already made several false claims in past.
btw. drum machine is not the same as drum sampless. There were no drum machines back in the days. This is usually done by the drummer recording a template and the individual sounds are then manually replaced. It was done that way for higher sound quality, and it was done by all the big bands like Kiss, Metallica or Iron Maiden.
