To answer some common questions we are getting:
1. Yes, we left our car unlocked. It was an accident and obviously something we don't plan on doing again. Whoops. 😁
2. His warrant was in another state. That state said they are not currently extraditing from out of state because they don't have the resources with everything on going with COVID. So they could only charge him with crimes in our state, which wasn't enough for an arrest. He only stole a few hundred dollars worth of cameras and had already sold the others. The officer told us this stuff is so common they can't book everyone in jail.
3. lol no this is not fake. Since when have we ever faked anything?? Yes, it's pretty ironic that he stole a Wyze Cam Outdoor and it was caught on a Wyze Cam Outdoor. But this is 100% legit. We did not hire a bunch of police officers haha that would be crazy.

I'm still surprised that they don't arrest the thieves that they do catch. It's not much of a deterrent if the only they receive is a summons to appear and the return of the stolen item. He's already proven that he's a flight risk and a repeat offender. I have no patience for thieves. I hope they add criminal trespass to the charges.

I am the wife of an ex-cop and criminal investigator and I always feel like Dave when I see someone getting arrested. And...we just bought our first Wyze Cams this week and my husband is installing them tonight after someone in our neighborhood had someone break into their cars. We noticed the outdoor cameras are coming out and plan to get some soon. For now we bought mounts for the indoor cameras and will mount them underneath the porch and the eaves of the house and hope for the best until the outdoor ones come out. Thank you for providing a great product and an absolutely wonderful price and not ripping off the world. I pray your honesty and integrity takes you to heights you could never imagine. You are the best.

They also have apps that can unlock key fobs if your fob is close to your car. Not that hard.they use it unlocks off they go.

We’re having trouble with people stealing the silliest things in the neighborhood; like lawn decorations, bird baths, rims from cars, and a few push mowers.

We installed 6 WYZE cams at my church and caught someone breaking in within the first week. Police picked up the criminal a few days later. Our footage from the recordings helped.

@@farahsoliman770 We had been broken in about two weeks before, thus necessitating the need for cameras. The WYZE Camera option was best for us because they are very inconspicuous, super affordable, and easy to install. The same thief broke in the 2nd time and our evidence was led to his arrest.

you need to lock your car every time. But glad you caught him. And the camera was the great. But even though we have a fence around our property ( we are a Towing Business) we have to keep our vehicle lock up day and night. But when I was a child in the fifty's, we never locked our car doors and on hot summer nights use to leave our front door wide open. Today - no way! Life is sad in this world with the virus, homeless, and robberies. God bless you all.
In my little town in 1950 1960 my dad says that never close the doors in the days or in the summer nights he took a rocking chair and sleeps in the sidewalk because dont had air conditioner. In the south of Spain. Its the same in all the world our communities are more violents every day.

I would’ve gotten a restraining order just in case for good measure, plus then next time it doesn’t matter the dollar value amount if he’s within however many feet which if he’s stealing out of your cars again he would be he’d be violating the order so he’d automatically go to jail just my opinion

It’s a good reminder that even if you live in a relatively safe neighborhood, you should always lock your doors.
vbvermont I’m sure their doors were locked, you can tell the guy used some kind of device to unlock the cars.
I had to smile when Dave innocently said “That’s crazy, why can’t they just schedule (an officer).” A lot of people don’t realize that regular patrol officers can’t be scheduled in advance by a caller for things like standbys (escorting people to recover property etc). The reason is that regular patrol officers go from call to call to call with no way of knowing how long each one will take. So there is no way for a dispatcher to know which officers if any will be available to assign in the right area at any given time. It’s standard procedure in a jurisdiction of any real size to advise people wanting police escort to call 911 and ask for an officer once they are waiting safely close by to the address where officers will be needed. That way dispatch can see who is actually available at that time. This situation changed of course with the identification of the suspect as a wanted person!☺️It would no longer have been a standby/escort situation and would probably be assigned a higher priority. Meaning if someone down the block called before you did, but their request is for something routine, your call gets to be assigned before theirs. Sometimes people assume there are more than enough officers everywhere just waiting to respond to any call that’s placed. Of course in reality depending where you are, dozens and dozens of calls can be waiting for a unit at any time. So glad these guys were able to be on scene so quickly and you all had a good outcome in the end!!! That camera is awesome.
I am so sorry this happened to you. Hope you are all doing okay, it’s not a great experience. I am going through something too, with an ongoing investigation. Feeling so grateful that there are people (police) who help.

Dave and Ashley, this is the ONLY video of yours that ever made me feel uneasy and the only one where I didn't smile ONCE during the whole thing. Then I immediately thought of the Claire and Carson. Not June as she is too young to understand but eventually she TOO will hear the story when she is older and it just SUCKS. I hope Claire and Carson aren't really scared at the thought of a stranger in their car stealing things that belong to their parents.
This is so so SAD to me because you take beautiful care of ALL your children and it still isn't good enough because this has happened. Maybe that didn't come out quite right...you couldn't care for them any better but because of this SLIMEBALL as Ashley called him, your kids have to learn that dishonest people and thieves are all around us. I remember when they caught the teenagers who broke into my car. They stole my stereo. Went to court and walked out feeling sorry for the one. His parents moved without him one day when he went to 5th grade school. He went into foster care system. They found his parents 4 states away when he was 16. His mom had stage 4 cancer. The only thing stopping him from being charged as an adult was 100 dollar difference of what they stole. His foster family didn't even show up for him. He had nobody. This judge was amazing. He had me say something to him. I just told him I was a single mom trying to raise my two children. This was his chance to get help for his drugs. Sad part a year later he overdosed. We never know what people are going through. It is not right for him to steal.

My 84 year old Mother had her golf cart, her only means of transportation stolen from her driveway earlier this year! It had a cable lock system on it. Now as we are looking to help her replace it, we are looking at a variety of security measures to put in place. Definitely looking at your Wyze Cam!

Well as a Christian myself, I will be praying for that guy and his family and pray that he can get help from those who can help him whether it's drug related or lack of job and needs money for his family. That’s so crappy they actually let him go free with him having warrants for his arrest for the same crime. That’s why we have so many criminals walking free in the streets. They should’ve locked him up bc clearly he keeps doing crimes over and over. Sad. But I’m glad you guys did your part and tried to get him off the streets.
Only if another department wants to pick up on their warrants. But petty stuff is really hard to get departments to pick up on. This is why theft is such a common crime. Best thing is to lock your doors, there are seasoned burglars who only steal from unlocked vehicles.
That’s so insane. A criminal is a criminal whether it be “petty” or not they shouldn’t be able to just walk away without any consequences. Especially since it’s obvious he’s a habitual violator. Just sad.

Scary when that happens (our car was broken into twice while we were pregnant these last few months during Covid) but I’m so glad y’all caught the suspect. Extra Patrol requests can be helpful too if your local law enforcement provides the service. Unrelated, but I went to the Wyze site after this video and found a typo on the Wyze Band page- couldn’t find where to email the team to give a heads-up, but figured someone might want to know. There’s an “a” that should read “of” instead in your string sentence. Anyway, hope this helps. Good luck to y’all!

Good job, Dave & family. I'd be worried he'll come back though - he knows who where you live... but... I suppose he also now knows that you sell small little security cameras now. I bought a CCTV security camera system here in Australia recently through my monitored security alarm company. Within days, I recorded my 1st law-breaking done by my neighbours, and again 4 days later. It's taken MONTHS of reporting their activity to police, but nobody listened because I had no "evidence" (ie video footage). Well, I wrote 3 huge reports of things I saw on camera in 2wks to their landlord (ie a govt dept), and they were told to leave (it's actually visiting relatives of an old man that's the problem). They WILL be leaving, but they need to find them somewhere else to go (which isn't fair), because they can't leave them homeless, even though they've been coming & going staying off/on for over a decade now. Anyway, they are going soon, ALL BECAUSE OF CAMERA EVIDENCE. It's worth it. And yes, they were in trouble with the law, but the police aren't going to tell me the verdict re privacy rules. But, the hooning car is off the street permanently 😁. I was writing screeds of all the things they were doing, including looking through my windows, trespassing regularly, etc. Every member of the visiting family was doing something reportable, it's unbelievable. One day, we'll have peace in our street & neighbourhood again. Cameras are so worth it.
The same guys has broke into the vehicles at work three different times where my husband is employed.. He stole personal tools and property.. they are videos and outside lights .. pray they get him !! Police have the videos

Wyze camera definitely saved our butt too. We don’t have one but my neighbor does and they caught someone stealing from our car 2 weeks ago. We got a wyze cam after that and the quality is amazing!
Wow. So glad you caught them and got your camera back. Drug addiction is a terrible thing and makes people desperate and willing to do things like stealing to make the money to pay for them. It’s a shame. I’m surprised that if they knew the product wasn’t even on the market yet that they didn’t ask for more money for it. Though they obviously weren’t thinking clearly and if they’ve been in trouble before they probably know that selling things for less keeps them out of jail (at least initially) if they do get caught. It must be terrible to live like that. Thank goodness you had your wise cam set up to be able to catch him doing it. Though I know what a violation it feels like to know someone was outside your house, while your family slept inside....rummaging through the things in your vehicle and stealing from you. It is not scam, it’s a real example of a real situation and how the cámara and alarm system help to caught thief so and help us to put an evidence into police body.

That would be awesome to have - our retired pastor's wife's car was just stolen out of their driveway. Keep in mind these are people in their mid 90's with health issues. And they heard the guy trying to break into their home first, then Mrs. J watched her car drive away. With one of those, we would have the thief on camera. Looking forward to when they are on sale. Good job family!
