Peckforton Light Railway - Coal Special

- Every so often, Peckforton Light Railway has to run a special goods train to meet the needs of customers along the railway. Today, the railway has decided to put together a special coal train. Coal was a staple commodity in 1930s UK for businesses and households. The train runs Down and back Up the line, delivering coal wagons to coal yards and lineside businesses. PLR is a hypothetical three-foot narrow gauge railway which might have been built to serve the copper mines, local businesses and communities in rural Cheshire UK. It is a 45mm gauge, 15mm scale garden railway. For more information see riksrailway.blo... - Music "Morning" by Kevin McLeod (incompetech.com ). Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0
I love Rik's world. Great quirky sense of humour. And I really like the signal bounce action. I say old chap it's a jolly spiffing show! Marvellous every time 😃👍
A new PLR video: Ideal to begin the week-end 🙂
Another wonderful episode, I could watch this stuff all day. Thanks Rik.
Another superb performance Rik, and I absolutely love the signals! All your work on getting the bounce you wanted has really paid off. Thank you for sharing, and inspiring me - watch out for imitation when I’m back from holidays!
Yes, the action of the signals was worth the effort! Really helps in yet another small way to bring the railway to life.
A new video from the PLR is always a highlight of the day 😀
Utterly delightful. Thank you.
Great video Rik, I agree with your thoughts on filming and storyline, when I film the GCLR, I film what I see, and what is running, the story gets built around those bits of rims as its gets strung together.
Great stuff Rik.
❤
Thanks Rik for yet another “must watch” from the PLR. A relaxing way to spend some ‘me’ time 👍👍
Great video story Rik. As always fun and informative to watch. As others have noted the upgraded signals are a treat to watch, Can we assume Freight Manager played a key role in assigning the schedule for the Special?🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@ianwm Hi Ian. The Freight manager suggested quite a few coal wagons needed delivery, but I added a few more to justify the Special. A bit of modellers' licence. 🤔😉
That was some marvellous work, Rik. Always a pleasure to see the PLR at work.
I was meaning to ask, how does the returning coal empty get back to the junction from the copper mine? I'm guessing it comes back on a copper ore run and is detached before the rest of the train is shoved off to the transfer sidings? Secondly, why not have the coal wagon tied on to the empty skips at Beeston?
@@SilverGear_ Hi. Yes, the empty will return with the loaded skips. The simple answer to your second question is that it made for an interesting bit of shunting. Originally, I was going to leave two wagons in the coal siding at Bulkeley and the Down ore would pick it up as it passed through. However, the Down ore coincided with the special at Bulkeley and so it seemed opportune. The reason the coal wagon wasn't left at Beeston Market is that it would have involved even more shunting.
