I just made this tonight before Xmas Eve. My Viet ladies told me put whole milk in it, and I did but it just wasn’t hitting. So I added a can of coconut milk & it was perfect.
I also made this today for my cousins party and they all loved it. I only used half n half today and skipped the coconut milk. There are really no wrong versions of this it’s just so yummy 😋 my mom also has made it using almond milk I wasn’t a fan but she says less calories lol
@@JenniferTran I didn’t have half n half but I bet it would’ve been wayyy better! Thank you so much for this recipe, this is my first Asian recipe I made for some picky Viet family!! You saved me❤️🥺 hopefully it’s the star of the show tomorrow!
This is part of the reason I will not live in an area without a Vietnamese population. I swear the rest of the world might have experiments with this flavor profile or that flavor profile....but the Vietnamese have flat out perfected food. I don't know if it was that French/Asian fusion or what...but I don't know a cultural or people that have better tasting food. I recently had a version of this with beans in it....yeah I know beans? Yes...beans...absolutely fantastic.
Thanks! This looks very similar to the che thai I'm familiar with. Probably the most refreshing dessert I know of, I'll try this out and let you know how it goes
Yes please let me know how it turns out. I love Che Thai it’s super refreshing and takes me back to my childhood. My aunts always made this at family gatherings. Let me know how yours turns out. Thank you for watching and if you haven’t done so please subscribe 😊
@@JenniferTran It was very good, my family loved it! I actually, uh, messed up some parts of the recipe because I'm a dummo, but I'll get it right next time haha
Oh goodness, you had me at the jackfruit 😳I am sure it is much tastier here in a sweeter format than the others. How is the smell from a can? Ive had it fresh like cooked as burgers etc
It smells yummy from the can and the syrup gives it a sweet taste. I haven’t had it in a burger form before sounds interesting I’ll have to try. Thanks for watching 😊
Hi Kim thank you for watching I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I haven’t tried making the red rubies yet but will try it next time. My mom makes with red rubies it does add a little extra crunch. The tapioca is more convenient for me and the kids love eating it. I’ve also seen people put pomegranate instead of the red rubies. Either way this dessert is yummy 😋 thanks again for watching and if you haven’t done so already please subscribe.
Im not 100% sure whats in the canned ones either but according to what my mother says and what i saw from a vietnamese youtube video, no it does not. The lady blended up some type of leaves, strained and the liquid just magically thickened into jelly!
Wondering if this sets well if I prep the bowl the night before? I see in some restaurants or stores there are some already made in cups in refrigerators so it should be ok?
Hi Amy based on my experience making Che it does not sit well overnight. The half and half will set into the fruit and jelly and it becomes thick. It’s best served safe day. If you prep anything the night before I would just cut the fruit and prep it in a bowl, don’t add any liquids or the half and half until the day of serving. Hope this helps 😊

This looks delicious! Can’t wait to try this recipe!! Have you thought about making the red Ruby’s and adding them into Che Thai?

Thank you for watching 😊
Can I prepare this one night before serve?
Looks delicious 😋
It’s my go to for family parties.
can I use coconut milk instead of cream? or what's another alternative
I think you can I have not tired it but should fine. I know some people use almond milk and it taste ok just not as creamy and cream
Is it true that grass jelly doesn’t contain gelatin?
I’m not sure I never looked. I don’t have a can of it now to check the ingredients.

it is made with agar agar and coloured with pandan leaf essence - so it's vegan - no animal cruelty

I ate this all the time growing up, I didn’t realize how unhealthy it was…
Yea it’s definitely on the sweet side and not something I eat often. I have seen others substitute the half and half for non dairy milk.
👍👍🙏
