Hello Professor, I still don't understand how cis/trans and E/Z differ. It seems to me that both cis and Z have the same side similarities, while trans and E have opposite side similarities.
They do often overlap. Cis and Trans is typically used for pi bonds in a chain with nothing else on the pi bound carbons, while E and Z are typically used when there is a lot more going on, for example having substituents on the pi bond in addition to alkyl groups. I demonstrate many examples in this tutorial leah4sci.com/cistrans
So would it jump in with the R and S in numerical order? (2R,4Z,6S)? I like less letters (E/Z). I also prefer R...but-2-ene as opposed to R...2-butene. And I'm lazy so I always draw fully aromatic with a circle.

Hi Leah, i passed my Ochem 2 ACS today, just want to say thanks for the help!
Oh wow, thank you so much for hopping in here to let me know. the ACS is no joke, congratulations and you are so very welcome! What's next for you?
How was it?! I have it today and I am panicking!
I have a full guide on how to prepare for the ACS
take a look here and let me know if it helps tleah4sci.com/acs
I just saw this, oh no to panicking! How did it turn out?
For the 7 membered chain in 50:00-57:30 , how come there is no mention of E/Z for the double bond? Is it because it's trisubstituted?
Hi prof Leah if the charge is a negative one is that counted as a hybrid orbital

They do overlap, it's simply a question of what else is going on in the molecule
can I get the resonance quiz? your videos have helped me so much preparing for exams and now the ACS orgo 1 final
Best of luck on your upcoming exam and ACS final. See below for the resonance quiz and my ACS guide

57:04 4-cis? Or 4Z?
Cis although Z also work
