Thank you so much for this! I'd been trying to get a bucket open for almost an hour when I took my frustrations to YT. That's when I found this. I ran out to HD and grabbed a PVC pipe cutter. In less than two minutes, I had the pail open.
Thank you! I have 20 finish and seal buckets with no tabs and they are a pain to get open to rinse out and toss. I'm using a putty knife and hammer to do the same thing.
Great idea. I have done it a similar way using an Oscillating Multi-Tool to make the cuts. You have to be careful though to not go too deep with the multi-tool or you end up damaging the lip on the bucket. I like your idea better though.
No you can't the rubber is rendered non functional. The process is only good if you don't want the lid. The lid is standardized you can buy from home depot.

Thank you. I've been struggling with one brand of chemical bucket in my shop and had a pvc cutter the whole time. Had the lid off in one minute.
Man I hate removing them lids. thanks for the tip
Dude! Genius! You've saved me from so much headache.
im glad i came in and watched this video before going apeshit with a pair of fencing pliers on any more buckets hahaha
worked perfect, thanks! i could still snap the lid back on tight after too which surprised me - i didn't cut up too high, right below the lip.
