I am guessing they simply rejected the divine charlatans. And tried to keep things simple, at least for while.

Dr. Lasker, I appreciate your mention of the Dead Sea Scroll sect at Qumran as the Zadokite priests, rather than perpetuating the common misinformation that the keepers of the Scrolls were the Essenes. Dr. Rachel Elior has done some amazing research on this subject, but you are the first scholar, aside from Dr. Elior, that I have heard bring forth this information.

Misconceptions and ignorance notwithstanding, Elior wasn't the first to identify "the Qumran Sect" with the priests of the Ṣadoq order. This was opined already in 1968, if not earlier.
At any rate, as a non-Rabbinical Jew I find many of Elior's contentions less than compelling.

@@lauratempestini5719 Sorry for the late response, Laura. I have not, but I'm not altogether surprised because I think the two major religions have a vested interest in keeping this information hidden from the masses. The Book of Daniel speaks of a time when the "times and seasons (moedim and calendar)" would be changed, and we know rabbinic Judaism and Christianity have fulfilled this prophecy. These two false religions want to keep the information of the Zadok calendar hidden because they are dark forces that seek to stay in power and do not want the masses to know the truth. I believe only those of us who are seekers will be supernaturally guided to the truth, and that is why so few have discovered Dr. Elior's research.

Karaism is not the other Judaism, but more like the real Judaism. It doesn't see the Talmud or Rabbinic Oral Law as Holy. See Deuteronomy 4:2
God's commandments do not belong to a central authority. Every Jew has the right and the obligation to study the Torah and decide for themselves the correct interpretation. As for the number of Karaism Jews, they don't know how many there are because there is no real census on Jews. It's the same way they don't know how many Jews of color are in America. The aim is to give people an image that is not true for pollical and sadly racial reasons.

karaite comes from the base word "KAR" which means "to read" in semitic languages...........also the islamic word koran (recitation) and ikra (to read) originate from this.

to my English‑centered mind they would not be related, but I've seen etymological connections that come from further away

@@davidh4374 Yes, it's the same word, Qara. I guess the core idea is expressing a composed idea aloud. The idea of reading a book, silently, to oneself, wasn't really a thing until a few hundred years ago. I think it was first mentioned as a novelty in the 4th century AD. So, for us the connection is less obvious. Reading is what happened in the synagogue, the church, or the masjid. Reading was an audible public activity. Most people were illiterate, and books were either the property of the elite or belonged to entire communities.
