I will be 50 next year and made some terrible mistakes in my life. It is only in the last 18 months that I've decided i need to move on with my life.
In jan 23, I was 225 lbs, and i am now 180 lbs.
I am trying to create a better living space because my mind has been such a messa for a long time.
I am learning about stoicism and will start keeping a journal.

This is amazing to hear, David Bowman (assuming you aren't using an alias from a Stanley Kubrick movie).
Keep it up. You have no idea how much better your life could be.

As a matter of fact, our habits speaks louder than our will to change and I think that's also what helped me realize as a Christian the role of prayer. Because that's where you choose to be in solitude on purpose to formulate your internal struggles and process your emotions. More importantly, Jesus sits with you to help you deal with the hurt, your inner conflicts and traumas which I believe is what He truly wants us to do when He explained to cast away our burdens on Him. The tricky part in my opinion is that without some form of discipline rooted in the desire of spiritual growth you always end up being dominated by your cravings. And that's the thing, we can't really move forward while we keep thinking discipline in faith is boring and that living like dopamine junkies slave to coping mechanisms (masturbation, alcohol, drugs, games ect..) somehow could make us feel fullfilled.

I'd like to go out more and socialize more, but honestly I don't have an entry point. Usually those party places are great to go with friends, but not to make friends... music is too loud, and so on.
Sure, maybe I'm making excuses to myself, but the few times I have been in those places it is always groups of friends or couples. If you don't have friends or a partner, it is unlikely you will feel comfortable there. Maybe in the UK the pub culture is more open and welcoming, tho. Maybe I did have my chance in college but now I'm a graduate. Meeting new people is not part of my routine, and even if I do know them it is unlikely I will see them with enough frequency to make friends off them.
However, what you say is great for people with at least one or two friends, and indeed it is important to socialize and meet new people, so it is good advice for them.
