I mean she pretty much says that. The subs are actually wrong, she said she self studied and in the recent half year had more formal lessons. So really lines up with LL, sure they worked a lot on actual speech and pronunciation since you know she was going to be voice acting. Of course keke doesn't really speak perfectly and thats part of her quirk but still ya know.
@@SVSky Becoming a seiyuu comes with shit high requirement on your pronunciation & stuff. you can't even think of actually becoming one if you could only speak Japanese in anything other than the standard Tokyo accent, let alone a foreign one. in short, her proficiency right now is pretty much the LEAST anyone would need to achieve, if they're thinking of becoming seiyuu.
Unless you already have decent knowledge of the basics, i'd suggest that you go to a school all the same. Liyuu herself only actually learned how to truly speak the language after getting formal lessons after all.

I've been studying for 2 years and still can't speak the language and only have a basic understanding of the language. Some of the issue is that people use resources that are not very good like Duolingo, and the other is that even if they do immerse, they're only learning basic phrases which aren't going to get them very far if they actually did visit Japan.

(also Korean is based on the Imperial chinese language of the time, but developed for the Commons to up the literacy rate. so it's not too dissimilar, other than written)

Usually Shanghainese only need one month to speak Japanese well since most of Chinese character in Japanese are pronounced in Wu way.
