Thank you for this video. It takes authenticity and courage to actually tell people that it's important to put the nose to the grind. Too many people regard the ukulele as an easy instrument. It's as simple or sophisticated as any other 😀😅
This is great solid advice ! As a player of nine months, it exactly describes the education overload that i am experiencing. I just came to the realization that i have so much to work already. I practice every day but i have too much information! Just need to practice in a more focused way!!! Thank you for clarifying this process!!
Question: When I am following the video, I often find that using a different finger or using a down stroke rather than an up stroke is easier or I prefer the tone. I’m not sure how much effort I should put into duplicating the video when my variation seems to be easier. Please comment.
Matt Dahlberg I’ve run into this a few times. Currently on Wouldn’t It Be Nice, measure 3-4 on G7 sus2, tab shows up up down up. I am finding that I prefer down down up down. Does it really matter ?
Hi Mark, I can answer this for Matt. For those measures, the general rule of thumb applies: you strum down on the down-beat and up on the up-beat. This keeps your hand swinging constantly in an up/down motion that's tied to 8th note rhythm. If you watch Matt's performance, you'll notice that happening. He simply misses the strings when a chord is tied.
@@mark1256 It's all about keeping the rhythm. If you are able to do so and prefer the tone, go for it! I strongly recommend doing it the way I teach if you are struggling with keeping time, since your hand essentially is a metronome keeping time with down on down beats and up on off beats.
Thanks Matt. I’ve put in a lot of effort to play as instructed but as soon as I try to play from memory, I just revert to what feels more natural for me. I’ll keep trying.

OMG I just realised I spend far too much of my time in the first E “education” ....... thanks, I’m going to change this right now!

The little green creature is looking a bit sad. Maybe it's thinking that watching this lesson was a mistake as practising is such a hard thing to do 😁
