- Join the Watson Institute for a celebration of International Human Rights Day featuring a screening of Bobi Wine: The Ghetto President, followed by a panel discussion with Bobi Wine, Nubian Li, and Ken Roth, former executive director of Human Rights Watch.
About the film:
This observational documentary film follows Bobi Wine and his wife Barbie. Bobi rises from the ghetto slums of Kampala to one of the country’s most loved superstars. His musical talent lifts him and emboldens millions of previously voiceless people. Bobi uses his music for activism, then becomes an Independent Member of Parliament to stand to defend the rights of his people, the ghetto people. Bobi’s wife, Barbie, by standing with him, plunges her own life into uncertainty. The film is an examination of the disturbing misuse of the legal and parliamentary systems, two supposed pillars of democracy. The country’s institutions are controlled by the State to ensure President Museveni, an autocratic strongman, who has held power since 1986, continues to rule Uganda. Bobi and Barbie must risk everything, their lives and their futures to challenge him. The state is determined to silence, not only them, but anyone who supports their cause. This is not just a story for Uganda, it is a narrative for all those who struggle under dictatorial regimes. Those who oppose them quickly discover that Western democracies have interests that do not extend to holding autocrats to account. This story has never been so relevant.
I thank all the pernalists for the airing of this truth.

We are now 40 plus years
Nice Documentary
Yes papa we stand with you
Thank s❤❤
What should be done is to tell m7 and his people to go back to his country, UGANDA offered him/them where to step and get back there country/go back. Now we who had our classmates and told us how their parents escaped to reach UG and other places to survive are now properly understand what m7 wants to put in Uganda. That why HABYALIMANA fought them and got them out of RWANDA and that why we saw a terrible murdering between HUTU AND TUSI
Thank s
Great
Plse know that Ugandanse deserves better like Americans
In the 1st place, M7 is not a Ugandan, and more so he grabbed the constitution and named the people from Rwanda as Ugandans. This was wrong and it has to change.
Two, M7 said he is not working for the people of Uganda, instead he is positioning his Rwanda people to settle in Uganda, that's why they have grabbed land, destroyed the economy, killed education, no hospitals, roads are pot halled and transportation has become a hindrance of economic development.
Museven free ugandans😢
#Ugandan youths are rotting in prisons without trials.
Having a different ideology & supporting @HEBobiwine, isn't a crime & it's a constitutional right. The

America is a Country having a double standard....Shame!
Good information, but the panel is unbalanced, full of panelists who all agree on everything. This runs counter to the principle of fairness and right of response.
What do you mean they are agreeing on everything....what is there not to agree on regarding my Country.......regarding this issue we don't need a debate.... these are facts being brought forward. It seems like you are looking for intertainment. .....
When it comes to issues mu Uganda....forget .....tolibakowu nyooooooo...naye twagala democracy....
As opposed to the peaceful times of Obote and Amin? One need not endorse Museveni to take issue with out of bound hyperbole.
The west, and in particular USA and UK are very much the drivers of the suffering of ordinary people in Africa. USA has all the means overt or otherwise to bring about regime change in a country. If they genuinely wanted to improve the status quo in Uganda, they would in a jiffy. But strategic interests dictate otherwise. So you slap sanctions on the country today and a delegation of senior personnel from the US military visits a week later. Walk your talk otherwise you have the blood of innocent people across Africa, and Uganda in particular on your hands. Shame, shame and shame on you for your hypocrisy!

You cannot dismiss Uganda's Petition on #HumanRightAbuse. You invited Uganda's
Justice Minister Norbert Mao to defend @KagutaMuseveni. He came out publicly and said: “Uganda gov't is stack naked when it comes to Human Rights Abuse."

Uganda's #Tyrant @KagutaMuseveni has committed gross atrocities on Ugandans. You invited his
Justice Minister, @Norbertmao to defend his crimes. Before joining NRM govt, Mao was strongly critical of Museveni on Human Rights Abuse.
