  • CRUISE NEWS - COUPLE BLAMES NCL CRUISE LINE FOR LEAVING THEM BEHIND.
Couple who have been on over 30 cruises still blames NCL Cruise Line for leaving them behind when their excursion was late getting back to the ship. They claim the cruise line did not even try to reach them until late the following day about getting back on the ship. They also say the ship was late leaving port 3 stops in a row but would not wait for passengers when they were running late. So whos at fault, the couple or NCL?

Exactly right! Accepting personal responsibility is becoming a thing of the past, regrettably. My message to these two old cruisers would be "I'm an old Fart too, but at least I'm always on time"! (Thanks to my watch and my Metamucil). Carry on young people!

This couple, who have been on 30 cruises, should have known better . On my 15th cruise, I was in a cab in Mexico that had an accident, and the police wanted me to stay. I explained that we had an all aboard in 30 min and they had all my information. They did not care if l missed my ship. Finally, I realized I needed to slip the police and my cab driver extra to let me leave. I jumped in another cab and ended up a pier runner. But l was there for the all aboard. I learned my lesson and only go on the ship shuttles, pay for an excursion or walk.

It is definitely the couples responsibility to ensure that they are back to the ship on time. I have cruised over twenty five times and I would never take a chance on a private tour. I have always booked tours from the ship and twice we were late getting back to the ship and both times the ship was there waiting for us. The one time we were two hours late. Had it been a private tour, the ship would have left us behind.

  • @TimSedlmeyer

I book private excursions all the time but I also know that if I don’t make it back in time it is on me. Knowing that I only book private excursions which are scheduled to end at least a couple of hours before the all on board time. I also have travel insurance to cover the cost of getting to the next port.
For those that think taking an excursion through the cruise line means they won’t leave you, you are mistaken. They may wait longer for you if they can but by the terms of your agreement with them they can leave you and have left people on ship excursions before. They are then responsible for getting you to the next port of call.

    • @TimSedlmeyer
      @TimSedlmeyer 25 днів тому

Booking an excursion through the ship guarantees they will either wait for you or get you to the next port. They have left passengers in the past who were on ship excursions which ran late. If authorities won’t allow them to wait, the cost to wait would be well in excess of the cost to house and transport the late passengers to the next port or waiting would endanger the ability to make the next port, they will leave you.
I plan my private excursions to give me plenty of leeway for things to go wrong and I have travel insurance which will cover the cost of getting me to the next port.

I want things to go well.
If my floating hotel left me standing on the dock with no tooth brush crying into the wind, I would be devastated.
Therefore, I am grateful for the cruise reviewers who visit and revisit this subject.
The bottom line is, as I understand it, if you want to guarantee this is not a problem on your cruise, book your excursions through the cruise line!

That confirms what we learned when we went through the Panama canal. We were there on time, but we couldn't proceed until the Harbour master gave the go ahead. We waited hours in the heat. When our turn came, we got in the lane and other ships came behind us. Very interesting. Didn't realize even in port the Harbour masters tell when to occupy the space. But it makes sense. BTW, we took a cruise line sponsored excursion and we were so afraid of returning late. We were over an hour late, but the ship waited, and others who were on the same excursion but different buses, returned even later. No one was left. If we will take a private excursion, we make sure we're within sight of the ship and we come back at least two hours before all aboard.

Apparently this is a pattern of entitlement with this couple. They've already received more than they deserve. They deserve banning not compensation.

We were on a private excursion once and we could tell we were not getting back on time. We actually left the excursion and took a cab back. We got back, the other passengers (about 8 of them) did not. We took responsibility and got ourselves back.

absolutely not NCL fault on all my cruises I have been back on board at least a hour before departure and have never had a problem. The couple has to take responsibility that they mess up.

I am a senior. I often hear seniors talk about the "younger generation" never taking responsibility for their actions or that the younger generation don't think through their actions (always drives me crazy when I hear this kind of talk) ---this is a clear case of the couple not taking responsibility for their decisions and expecting everyone around them to rescue them. I wonder if they are the same type of passenger that feels entitled to jump the line while on the ship ---at the elevator, at the buffet etc etc. Sounds like they should become landlubbers.

Another case of people feeling entitled! The couple was 40 minutes late.

If you look on the back of a Norwegian key card you will find the ship’s phone number. Might have helped them.

Couples fault. They sound entitled. The cruise line is not the baby sitter.

Well, if they needed the medications and such so badly, they should have taken them with them. They should be grateful NCL did ANYTHING at all. Wow, even the older folks think they are entitled. SMH. And to think I thought it was the newer generation! I always bring 2 days' worth of meds in my purse when I disembark at a port just in case I miss the ship. NCL was very generous. They should be thanking them not complaining.

I once missed returning to the ship on time in Stockholm. My fault for straggling. I took the train to Arlanda Airport, and booked a flight to the next destination the following morning. Yes I was mad, but mad at myself.

My wife and I are on our 18th "Someone else drives the boat" ocean cruise (Renaissance, Oceania, and Viking). I noticed early on that the last dock line would be let go a minute or two before the scheduled leaving time. I presumed the port charged like California's vehicle ticket penalty system, which was $15 for $10 of the fine or portion thereof. For example, if you leave at 6:01, the ship is charged for the whole hour or whatever time interval they charge in. My wife and I have done only one noncruise line tour while on the cruise, and that one started and ended with a cruise line-arranged bus trip.

That is why when I take excursions I book them thru the ship because they get notified by the tour company and wait for you until you make it back to port.

One way to remedy this is the charge the late passengers the cost of the total extra fees plus a service charge.

What a couple of jerks. I normally have sympathy, but this couple gets zero. They arrived 40 minutes past all aboard time and are upset with the ship. WTF?!? Try showing up 40 minutes for a flight and see what happens. I’m dead serious when I say they should be banned from the cruise line for life.

Book a private tour and take your chances. We were once on a ship provided tour and were late. Guess what, the ship waited.

  • @marthagrant143

I guess we are just overly cautious, but we are very careful about this. We book private excursions but with companies that guarantee that you will be back in time or they will get you to the next port and for excursions that are not far from the port. We also specify a return time that is at least 90 minutes earlier than the all aboard time. We are usually back on board long before the ship sponsored groups. Whenever an excursion takes us farther away from the port, or involves water travel, we book through the cruise line. I can't imagine how stressful being left would be so we do our best to make sure it doesn't happen to us.
