  • We are taking a look at yet another knife which uses the bar-lock type system invented by Benchmade with their "Axis Lock". Some say that Hogue does their "Able Lock" version best of all the companies who use it. What do you think?
    In this video, we look at the lock, the size, the materials, the fit and finish and the ergonomics of this beast. Thank you again to "SOBX Scooter" for loaning me this knife for the channel to experience. It has been an enjoyable couple weeks getting to know it.
    Feel free to share your experiences with this knife or questions about it in the comments below. I will do my best to answer as quickly and accurately as possible.
    Aaaand, I just realized I forgot to cut in the b-roll of me using this knife... 🤬🤬🤬
    Stay well. GG...out.

      I also put the Deka on my list as well. The only thing I really do not like about Hogue's Able Lock knives is that machining on the interfaces. It's not as bad on this one as it is Terry's Deka, but those 3 C-shaped divots around the thumb stud and barlock interface eat away at the callous on my thumb. That doesn't diminish what great knives they both are. Have a great weekend, brother.

      It was! It has been a nice one to have around to compare to all the more Bugout-ish style Axis locks. This one is a special kind of beast. Happy Easter, Dave. Stay well over there.

    Yeah buddy! I really need to get this one. I have the sig sauer P320 pew pew, so it needs its sidekick. Love that Sig & Hogue made a knife to be paired with the pistol.

      I agree! It is amazing quality and 100% made right here. Hogue does a spectacular job on this one. You can also find them used on the secondary for under $100 sometimes too. Have a great weekend.

    My buddy skippy has the new Carbon fiber in 20cv with the blue hardware. They have a deka version as well. It's a beautiful version of both knifes but I feel as if they should have went with m4 or magnacut for the k320 instead of 20cv. 20cv just isn't cutting it with me as far as a hard use knife steel is concerned.

    • @GrumpyGrunt
      @GrumpyGrunt  Рік тому

      If you are wearing out 20cv, you probably aren't going to be happy with MagnaCut either. My limited experiences with both have been extremely comparable as far as edge retention. In fact, if I were being more scientific about it, I would probably see the 20cv with a slight edge in retention. I am pretty happy with both for my uses, personally. I hope the MagnaCut model gets you to where you want to be.

    • @jimmycricket7946
      @jimmycricket7946 Рік тому +1

      @@GrumpyGrunt yeah I haven't tried out magnacut as of yet but I think you're right, I haven't really heard anything too promising about it yet, then again it's still pretty new so idk. I really wish more manufacturers would use rex45 more often, I can't tell you how great of an experience I had with rex45, spyderco's heat treatment for this steel has proven itself to be great as far as I'm concerned. It actually has better cutting performance then my delica k390.

    • @GrumpyGrunt
      @GrumpyGrunt  Рік тому

      @@jimmycricket7946 REX45 and M4 will treat you about identically in terms of toughness and edge retention, from my experience. Both great steels, but neither is stainless. Personally, I want stainless in my folders and it doesn't matter in my fixed blades. My Shaman in M4 worries me that it's rusting inside the pivot, so it is always dripping oil like an AMF Harley. 🤣
      Have you tried out their S90V on a knife yet? It's probably my favorite steel on ANY knife I have found of any brand. It could be another great option for you with regard to stainless with great edge retention. I have a Lil Native in S90V that just won't quit for such a small knife.

    • @jimmycricket7946
      @jimmycricket7946 Рік тому +1

      @@GrumpyGrunt I'm ok as far as rust because I live in the desert so corrosion resistance isn't really a concern for me. Although I did have 3v on a fixed blade rust on me and it was Pitting rust so I wasn't able to clean it up. 4V and rex45 have been my favorite steel's so far and try to maintain them with a thin layer of silicon oil just in case. But to be honest I haven't tried out S90V as of yet, I do have a Pm3 in s110v but have yet to put it to use. I heard from alote of people that s90v is actually better. Problem is availability. I'll probably pick up a benchmade bugout at some point in s90v. I definitely want to try it out!! Have you tried maxamet yet? Seems some people really love and others not so much.

    • @GrumpyGrunt
      @GrumpyGrunt  Рік тому

      @@jimmycricket7946 S90V is better than S110V for me. It's got almost the edge retention with a lot more toughness. I had the Manix 2 in S110V. Loved it and kept it stropped so I didn't have to sharpen it. I'd heard the nightmares about how picky it is to sharpen. I also had the Manix 2 LW in SPY27. Loved the steel but hated the LW platform on that model.
      I had a Maxamet PM2. Very cool steel, but neither the PM2 platform nor the Maxamet were really for me. I don't need steel with that kind of edge retention at this point in my life. I have the Para3 in S45VN now and it's great.

      I have some gripes with the Deka coming up, but it's still a good knife. I like this one more and it is definitely one I will own at some point. The Deka is off and on again. Sorry to hear they didn't hit for you, brother. This one feels so similar to the Shaman to me, I figured you would like it too. Have a great weekend, brother.

    • @_MiMo_
      @_MiMo_ 2 роки тому +1

      @@GrumpyGrunt Yeah it's mainly the design and size of the hole, and placement of the textured areas, would probably have me reaching for another one of my Hogues or my Shaman, before this one.🤷‍♂️

    • @GrumpyGrunt
      @GrumpyGrunt  2 роки тому +1

      The Shaman is hard to beat. That's one of the 💩things about running a channel: you don't usually get to choose your carry. At least not all of it. There are too many knives starting to stack up and content with them. So, I've had Terry's Shaman put away for about a week now because I wanted to carry nothing else.
      When I get one of these, I think I have a fix for the weird flipper hole issue. We'll see. Stay well, brother MiMo.
