  • John just got ready for his Intro to Long Range Patrol class and couldn’t fail to notice the improvements Ops-Core has made to their AMP Comms system. The gel cup seal, the magnetic induction in-ears, and the interchangeable nature from headset to helmet make it John’s favorite comms system to date. This is NOT a paid advertisement.

    Interesting tip we received in a tac class last evening that I’ve not seen in a video before and I thought I’d share. Apparently, upwards of 90+ % of people are right handed. Most right handed shooters miss down and to their left. Therefore, as a result, when first moving off the line, always move first (and create distance depending on proximity) to YOUR left increasing the odds that the person you’re confronting (who in many cases will be untrained) will not only short circuit with their target moving, but miss you to your right and down in the process. Not sure of your thoughts, but I found this enlightening.

    Nerd moment time: Near-field magnetic induction means that these are working off the same principle as your induction cooktop. Aka there is a magnetic field created by the earpro and when the small inner ears are within that field they are conductive of that magnetic field. So POWER is literally flowing, wirelessly, from the batteries in the ear pro to the electronics on the inner ear pro!

    I can't tell you how many U-94 push to talk cables I have repaired in the Navy.
    If you buy one, they are easy to repair but break easy if you thrash it about.

    A few words about "directional sound" and "identifying the source of sound" that can be found around the internet. I carried out an experiment where a blindfolded individual was subjected to sounds coming from 12 different directions (1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, and so on). This was repeated under two different head positions: facing forward and looking downwards. The experiment was conducted in three different setups: using Peltor SportTac, Ops-Core AMP, and without any hearing protection.
    The participant was required to determine the direction of the incoming sound. The variations from all 12 positions were summed and analyzed. Both Peltor SportTac and Ops-Core AMP yielded similar results. I took into account two different scores - one including the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and the other excluding these. The reason? When using hearing protection, distinguishing between the 12 and 6 o'clock positions is a guessing game rather than certainty. This seems logical as both microphones in each ear cup receive the sound at the exact same moment.
    Without hearing protection, the situation differs because apart from distance variations, our bodies also utilize the shape of our ears to differentiate between various sound directions. Without any hearing protection, the individual was able to easily identify the direction from which the sound originated.
    Don't get me wrong, Ops-Core AMPs are fantastic hearing protectors with no wires flying around. They're uniquely versatile, effortlessly transitioning between a headband and a helmet. The sound quality is fantastic, and the NFMI earplugs are great. Many elements are remarkably well-designed.
    But whether it's worth the considerable investment is your call. I initially thought it was worth it, so I purchased them. However, I decided to return them because I found them less comfortable than the SportTacs with gel inserts, especially given the many hours I spend using hearing protection. Moreover, the much-touted "directional sound" feature turned out to be more hype than reality based on my tests.

    For all of us ballin on a budget: HHV and EarMor MK32 milpro combo. Pretty much the same capability, but without the HOLY F*****G S**T price tag. NVGs still absurdly expensive though. There is however an instructional vid here on the UA-cams that shows how to build a gen3 monocular for around $700(green phosphore). It's gonna be Alibaba special but it'll get you in the game.

      For the Press To Talk (PTT), if you want to connect the Gentex Ops-Core Amp to something like a Baofeng UV-5R, this seems like a good PTT that can interface between them, opting for the "U174 Mono Binaural Downlead" from the Amp, as from what I can tell you want the U174 of the AMP to connect to the U94 of the PTT with the other end of the PTT being "Kenwood" for the UV-5R (or similar): www.disco32.com/products/nexus-u-94-a-ptt-for-kenwood-2-pin-amplified-for-civilian-radios

      TheProfit MoeHamHead If you don’t want to shell out for the SOTR, check out the GVS Elipse P100 Half Mask Respirator. Comfortable and like the SOTR it doesn’t get in the way of shooting. Also... 1/4 the price. NIOSH, OSHA, and MSHA approved. Most importantly, filters that lead in the air if you’re shooting suppressed. Filters are cheap and easy to breathe. Looks way cooler than the 3M style dual cans.

      If you attend the really large Ham Radio "Hamfests" you can find a wide assortment of surplus military headsets and parts. There are individuals who have been buying surplus goods from the government for years and many attend the major events.
      It also helps to be an electronics hobbiest ( or Makers as they are called today ) you would be surprised at how easy it is to repair your non working equipment!

    That baofeng radio there can be programmed to run on civilian frequencies that are not licensed amateur radio(ham) bands to prevent the legal issues of transmitting on the ham bands without license. FRS, GMRS, and MURS

    • @shockwavemikey64
      @shockwavemikey64 3 роки тому +1

      To transmit with a uv5r legally in the US, you need a ham license. You can listen all you want but if you have to use them the time for licenses is probably fine long ago.
      They aren't part 90 certified and are legally blacklisted for front panel programing and working on gmrs, frs, and murs channels.
