Lucky to get Kotkaniemi? They made him the third overall pick when nobody else would. That’s pro scouting
cuz they went up in the draft from like 12th to 3rd they moved up alot and got to draft higher but yeah that was pro scouting for the most part 100%
Maxime Côté Lmao they finished 4th last that year, 12th last. Still lucky to move up tho
@@maximecote7638 ur wrong they were an awful team that year do your research bud
Maxime Côté They've went from 4th to 3rd and no one was going to draft him third in the teams susceptible of drafting fourth. Tkachuk was on most team's radar for the third pick.
Massive steal of the draft.
I really REALLY hope Montreal gets him. Such a stud and outstanding fit for Montreal.
First Aho, then Laine and Puljujarvi... To Montreal...
Ilkka Kanerva Puljujarvi is on Pitsbourough
The club called CH is rich, but they are not billionnaire!
Dullfire97 no he’s not, he’s still in Edmonton
LetangIsGod 58 oh lol I thought i read he got traded
Valeri Nichushkin buying out...free to sign!
If you want to oppose signing bonuses then the league should have a tax system so all players pay the same tax on their salary. Canadian teams are clearly disadvantaged because of the taxes
Frank The Tank You have to remember that everybody is paid in $US which makes you more money in canada, and houses and goods arent really that more expensive here in Canada.
There's no way they can do that, that's just what you get for being in Canada
Puksin Dheep unless you live in Toronto or Vancouver...... housing is just as bad there as anywhere in the states
@@stevenst6337 Vancouver more like China part 3
UMG Sicko I mean a $2M house in LA and Vancouver is pretty similar in size but it is technically cheaper in Canada because $2M CAD is worth like $1.52M USD
People who think this can be matched need to remember that Carolina needs to pay him a $22M singing bonus in the first year
Still doing it.... a bank loan is a bank loan.
@cashtheyen So what, do you think rich people love throwing money into ventures that make no revenue at all.
@cashtheyen Sets a bad precedence around the league. Others will be looking for same or more. Greed.
@@bigfish3428
Pegula has been doing that for years now.
No fans=no aho
For years, big markets like Montreal and Toronto have been disadvantaged because of
1) The taxes (taxes should be taken into account in the salary cap if it is really about giving equal chances to every teams)
2) With a huge fan base, it was unacceptable for years to finish last for multiple seasons in order to draft franchise players.
3) Revenue sharing means a lot of team receives money made by big market teams (teams that'd make less money if losing year after year).
If being in a big Canadian market means having an advantage for once, I'm all for it.
This is why you need to sign your most valuable player before the 1st of july....
Go habs go i dream of this team with aho
Steve is channeling Bergevin hard with the biceps
So signing bonuses are ok when they are coming from Dangle's precious Leafs but are a questionable when the Canadians do it. Ok bud...
But he isn't criticizing Montreal by any means. In fact, I don't even think he used the word "questionable" at all, I'm not sure why you'd invent something like that. I'm not even a fan of his, but that's kind of BS. Also, when the Leafs have offered signing bonuses, its been to their own players or a UFA(Marleau). What Montreal did was put in an offer sheet, trying to take away a player from an opposing team. Very different scenarios, I'm not sure why people insist on using false equivalencies to push their irrational argument.

Even if it could be matched, I'm glad we're taking a shot against the Bunch of Jerks and their money-pinching owner.
That being said, Aho is the real deal.
Idk why he's money pinching he was willing to put up $250 million to save the AAFL so why is he not willing to spend on the Canes?
Jay Jayson stupid narrative pushed by Canadian media
@@jayjayson9613 Didn't they invite a bunch of kids to their preseason game? Also, I thought they give out free tickets too.
If Aho wanted more money he would have rejected the offer sheet & asked even more from the Canes. Why did he accept it? The only reasoning is he wants to play with the Habs.
@@jayjayson9613 Because 1) hockey is not his primary passion and 2) the Hurricanes made -$3.9 million (negative) in operating outcome last season. The real question is: is Dundon willing to pour his own money in a business that is guaranteed to lose money anyway?
Should have been in the two firsts range of 8.5-10.5. Has actual chance of getting him and Aho is worth every cent and every pick.
Me too
The strategy is pack it with max signing bonuses in the first 12 months. Even if the AAV is 10.5M, the max bonus for the first 12 months wouldn’t make much of a difference.
@@michaelwou1667 yeah but maybee Carolina would be more willing to let him go with an extra 1st...
Not all organizations have big cash to throw around, this up front cash bonus money could cause big problems down the road for many teams. Interesting to see how this plays out with the players getting the upper hand on owners.
Can’t imagine they’ll b selling Molson -Coors products in Carolina anytime soon 🤭
I can almost feel that lockout clamping on in a year or two
I think the signing bonuses made it tough, but if the the owner doesn't sign it, its like a big f you to the fans. Plus I think the Carolina owner is kind of a big talker and hardo, so I think he'll wait till the last day and sign it to make it difficult for Montreal to sign anyone.
That contract is not based on the hurricanes cap hit...but the pockets of the owner Thomas Dundon...Waddell might try to bluff an easy decision, but i doubt his boss with financial difficulty wants to pay 21 millions for one player...Ballsy move...Hurricanes should take the pick, they won't be able to do a thing if they match it !
This comment backfired
Well guys, it's not necessarily really taking players from another team. The hurricanes had months to sign Aho and offer sheets are part of the game. That's a risk that the Habs decided to take with PK Subban when he turned RFA a couple of years ago and there were serious concerns about him signing with another team. At the end of the day things ended up working for both Montreal and Subban but the GM using every tools they have at their disposal is not a bad thing.
GM Waddell said in his press conference about an hour ago that they just made his summer much easier.
Make no mistake, the Canes will match at the last minute possible, and will string the Habs front office out as long as they can.
And then the Canes will exact revenge opening night on them for doing what they did.
lmao Keep dreaming
Agreed, he is not going anywhere
They'll have to sell the team to pay him lol
Ok let’s see about because the first year they are going to have to pay 22$!And I don t think that Carolina has that cap space to do that
Incoming Kotkaniemi offer sheet :)
Anyone notice how Steve said thank you in sign language at the end of the video?
He always does!
He does it all the time on his own channel
Alexander Meleras been watching for years and never noticed until today!
Dangle, I usually like you but shut up. Small US markets are using their tax advantages, we get to use our big market advantages. If bonus are good enough for your precious Leafs, the Habs can play too.
MrWillcapone tax advantage... lol. Canada high marginal tax rate expropriates over 50% of income. I guess it's advantage to be preyed upon less by a blood sucking leviathan government.
@@Rsambo00 Reading comprehension is lacking here. I suggest you give it another go
Oh how the turntables
When did he play for Hartford Whalers?
offer sheet machine
I'm not buying That this kind of structure is going to be a big issue for the league. Could be wrong but it's a way for teams to counter that BS state tax argument
look at the canes gm's tweet, im sure they wont let aho go.
Well, given that $11.3M would be immediately due and $9.87M due next July 1, we'll see if Tom Dundon is willing to spend money. It's not the AAV, but the bonus structure.
Montreal trying to get a new Saku Koivu in their team.
I was thinking the same thing too. Why didn’t habs make signing bonus monsterous? I don’t think Carolina would’ve matched
I was thinking base salary as well.
Over 9million wouldve cost a second first round pick
Like true canadien fans..biased. Carolina will match and canadiens will miss playoffs again. Lol
Weird not seeing dangle in a leafs jersey
Bring on the chaos
They matched it, damn that sucks
Hopefully habs sign him they need that no.1 centre plus Aho said he is happy with Montreal’s deal
If it doesn't get matched my Hurricanes will never make the playoffs again.
Aho underpinned all our success in the regular season and we were near catastrophically bad without him (his disappearance in the postseason is an oddity because we managed to be semi competent even without him).
You have svechnikov you're fine
@@redbullsauberpetronas Aho offer has been matched! Exhale, Canes fans. :)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEZE Carolina....don't match it dooooon't match it!
aaaand matched
Carolina will match. I would have liked Habs to get Aho. I'm sure he would've liked it too.
I hope that Bergevin realizes that he just declared war on Dundon.
he is a division rival.. not like they were best friend anyway.
Right. Next off season might have some more drama?
Well, you called it.
Nashville is a better market than Carolina. When Weber was offer sheeted they were a playoff team for years. The Canes haven’t been any good until this year
Nashville needs new coaching or they'll always be out in the first round
Did you forget 2002, 2006 and 2009? I imagine you are a kid who has never seen them play, and the fans back then. During their playoff run last season they averaged more fans with attendance than Montreal has in past playoffs. Nashville is a great hockey market, but Carolina has a better market when they are better. When Nashville was bad, their attendance was just as bad, again that’s something you probably don’t remember
I am flabbergasted holy guacamole Batman
Canes let's f ing go
Look at those GUNS on our boy Steve!
Too bad he has skipped shoulder days
Carolina is gonna match the offer, so that’s that. ✌️
Carolina confirmed they will match it
Sebastien Vachon gtfoh
Gabriel Minville It’s on their Twitter
no they haven't your an idiot
@@JoeBoozer its you're.... not "your". I would hold off calling others idiots with that grammar.
@Tsang Tsung he already signed it...it's up to Carolina to match
Carolina will sign him, this is all a game
didn't know the Whalers still existed
I'm jealous as a leafs fan. Ugh
RIP THE WHALERS
AHO would love to play for the Habs. Canes will match. Gonna burn thru $21M in one year. Ouch.
Who cares? Dundon has extremely deep pockets.
@@11DNA11 lots of debt too, and the canes are in he red. They didnt make a fine this year. Infact they are -3000
@@darkstar1481
Do you understand what deep pockets mean? He could run the team with NO money coming in. For a VERY long time.
@@11DNA11 Dundon cares .... otherwise why wouldn't he have signed Aho to such a deal already, but without all the money up front? Now Aho will be UFA at age 26. Aho @ $8.45M per is very reasonable. The guy can flat out play.
@@innismor11
They wanted a longer term. The money is whatever. It's the term lenght.
WEEEEEEEWOOOOOOOOO
THE FINNISH LINE
LEHKONEN-KOTK-AHO
Aho should be used as center, he would probably be used as the first line center and play with Domi and Drouin while Danault centers Tatar and Gallagher. Then keep the Finnish line intact with Lehkonen, KK and Armia.
@@kattharsismic lol Kotkaniemi is not playing in a bottom 6 role anymore bud. He's a 3OA center and those are not drafted to play with 3rd and 4th liners.
Steve's biceps look bigger. Has he been taking steroids? 🤔
Matthew Jay Evans He’s training with Marc Bergevin
Cole Caufield 😆 😂
Cole Caufield comment of the year😂
So sad, no Aho to Montreal
Tom Dundon got every penny of the $70 mil he put in to the AAF back, btw
He’s staying at Carolina. Lil late there guys
Dominos?
NBA, NFL money is almost all guaranteed. Why would a signing bonus being large be a turn off or a surprise ?
Because half of the league doesn’t make good annual profit. Their owners have to open their own pocket
Hillo
1 of these 2 teams are going to get tkachuk
If Carolina Match Aho's offer sheets they wont be able to sign tkachuk they probably wont be able to sign Aho at the beginning
lol I don't understand why these teams are getting rid of their best players. I mean I get it, but still. Columbus finally made it passed the first round and now they got rid of their best players. And now canes might get rid of aho lol
Yeet
Best thing for Aho to do after /if Carolina matches is to; - refuse to play for Carolina and ask to play for Montreal . ... He might have to sit out a few months ten months +/- .... arbitrators would need to be hired .... Montreal would win the arbitration ... but it would cost Carolina less than 21.8 million year one ... ....
He does not want to play for Montreal. His agent only said that to make Carolina sign him. Also, Aho is smart he signed the contract KNOWING Carolina would match and he walks away the winner, and gets to stay where he wanted to the whole time
Aho settled for below market value very strange move.
Because of the signing bonus, and it doesn't buy any of his UFA years.
rivahkillah thank you for clarifying I wasn’t sure what the details were
He’s staying in Carolina, this is just a ploy
$21 million is chump change for a supposed Billionaire owner.
it's 21 million in the first 12 months
@@JoeBoozer
It's still pocket money for the guy. They'll match the offer.
Supposed is the key word here...he is in financial difficulty, doubt he'll give the entire profit of the team for one player...they can't match it, they won't be able to do a thing if they do !
Baked Thanks for the correction!
Jean-Philippe Doyon The Habs (and the rest of the League) must know that Dundon has a cash flow problem to sign him at a relatively lower Cap Hit completely Front-loaded with annual Signing Bonuses.
Wasn't a good year to be a UFA?? Tell that to Panarin, or Hayes lmao
They a match lol
rippi
LOL
Canes will be bottom team if Aho leaves
The Flyers should be really nervous about Provorov... I know he's not top tier but someone might make him a silly offer and handcuff Fletcher... god I hate this GM
Z3R0 1NC4RN4T3 Lol that Kevin Hayes contract will be use as a meme now
@@RatioThen Haha The whole Flyers front office is a walking talking meme.
The thing if carolina really want to matched the offer... lets break that giveaway cash that all the richest team need to give each years to poor team like carolina... doesnt make any sense that a team in deficit can afford a 21millions first year and demand cash from other team years after years... as a montreal fans i am tired of this bullshit rules by the league, we will be a way better team if the team in deficit were actually in their own hands and need to improve or just relocated if youre not able to make cash... plus, the tax in montreal are insane... add these two things and how can the canadians team can be advantages? Bettman should know that toronto and montreal are helping the league years after years for bullshit teams like carolina! Aho for montreal, carolina doesnt deserve it
*_Aho > Marner_*
Chungas Revenge LMAO
In japanese "Aho" means idiot. Fun Fact of the day.
i thought baka was idiot
Baka is stupid
And in finnish it means meadow i guess
In the the U.S it means calling a unfaithful girl A HO!!!!
@@mikes7446 Alright, i laughed. That was funny.
He'd be an idiot to go to Canada. The high taxes he has to pay over the low taxes in Carolina. Any serious contract he gets in Montreal will be destroyed by the taxes he will have to pay.
Can the player decline without the hurricanes interfering? I say this bc Montreal is not a place to call home with all the traffic, huge taxes, home tax hikes and lets not forget the language politics. Est ce que tu parle français Mr. Aho?
Canadians GM is a snake
bergevin is alpha male daddy
That a good thing because as a Montreal fan I was laughing of what Bergevin did
I don't want analysis from Steve Dangle. This guy's a scrub. Get rid of him
