Everything about this track is unique. Not many bands can sound like this. No band could come up with lyrics like this. Bob Calvert, I love you. love you Hawkwind 🕉
I thought it was a sten gun, or a grenade? Can't blame 'em for abandoning him in Germany, but Bob wasn't a well man, we have to remember that. He was The Right Stuff ..& long may we all watch/listen to his trail.

I have sent this track to a few people that are not really into this type of music and after warning them about the opening, which could have been offputting, they quite enjoyed it. As I have said before, I think it the best Hawkwind track ever.
What an unexpected joy to hear them perform this track - very authentically, and half a decade apart - at their gigs in Sydney, Australia. Thank you, Commander Brock and all crew aboard the StarShip Hawkwind. We need you to return to our galaxy damn soon!
Have been listening to Hawkwind since 72. In all their varied changes and tunes. Will always be there when they are! Until the casket. Rock on boys! Rock on!

Absolutely wonderful poetry. These unforgettable words I have quoted on so many oaccasions, people always were amazed by it, and, I hope, went on to an appreciation of the immortal Bob Calvert (RIP) and Hawkwind.
Loved The Hawks for decades , tripped on natural magics on many occasions .Great times and this song brings it back .I just love the SOS tapping signal in the background something you pick up while on another plain lol.

Totally agree, way ahead of its time, and amazing lyrics from Bob Calvert
Love the SOS in morse in the background at the start - real depth of thought went into that
cant disagree with that ,been a hawkfan since 1970.
Totally agree, an utterly unique track in every way

Robert Calvert is one of the greatest wordsmiths this planet has ever produced.
Without doubt & along with Syd Barrett too
David Allen GONG respect,hawk+Floyd!!

I liked it when he was sacked from Hawkwind for chasing the rest of the band down the road with a scimitar, or something.

1977 ..I heard this ,..that guy's radio show that played weird songs ..?
Lyrics
:
I would've liked you to have been deep frozen too
And waiting still as fresh in your flesh for my return to Earth
But your father refused to sign the forms to freeze you
Let's see you'd be about 60 now,
And long dead by the time I return to Earth
My time held dreams were full of you,
As you were when I left;
Still underage
Your android replica is playing up again
Oh, it's no joke
When she comes she moans another's name
That's the spirit of the age,
That's the spirit of the age.
That's the spirit of the age,
That's the spirit of the age.
Ah, the spirit of the age.
That's the spirit of the age.
Oh, spirit of the age.
That is the spirit of the age.
I am a clone, I am not alone
Every fibre of my flesh and bone
Is identical to the others
Everything I say is in the same tone
As my test tube brother's voice
There is no choice between us,
If you had ever seen us,
You'd rejoice in your uniqueness
And consider every weakness
Something special of your own
Being a clone, I have no flaws to identify
Even this doggerel that pours from my pen,
Has just been written by
Oh, another twenty telepathic men,
Word for word, it says:
"Oh, for the wings of any bird,
Other than a battery hen".
That's the spirit of the age
That is the spirit of the age
That's the spirit of the age
That's the spirit of the age
It's just the spirit of the age
It's just the spirit of the age
It's just the spirit of the age
Just the spirit of the age
Spirit of the age

Love this album, such strong songs. l particularly like the humourous lyrics which feature in many of the tracks.
As an avid Devo fan I felt Hawkwind gave them a good run for the money.
They may have had an influence on DEVO. Similar ethos I believe
this album is Hawkwinds masterpiece and arguably the best line up of this unique band
It's the humourous lyrics included in many of the tracks is what I love about this album 😏
