    Fascinating and thought-provoking discussion - with a hopeful conclusion! I was particularly struck by the idea that many SF utopias have some sort of mass disaster at their core. Which seems to be the basic theory behind some terrorist movements!
    It's unlikely that there will be any simple solutions or straightforward paths to any sort of utopian future: but while people can imagine it then there is still hope. Which is something SF can make a big contribution to - as long as it doesn't get too bogged down in dystopias, which unfortunately seem easier to imagine!
