I used to do these weekely when I worked at a used car dealer. I have found it can be done in about 30 min without removing a lot of the wires or the column, but you must have a T30 1/4 inch and know exactly what bolts to remove. You must also take care not to break the brake switch that is a plastic hunk of junk (ask how I know). I feel your process is more by the book and very helpful for anybody attempting it for there first time. Those splines are very important to get back right as they might throw the alignment off. Another tip of advice to anybody removing any steering column is to make sure not to turn the wheel as this may cause damage to the clockspring. Your video was very helpful. Keep up the great work!

Its impossible for those splines to throw off your alignment, no way no how. If anything it can cause your steering wheel to not be straight.

Thank you for the video! I was able to replace this part myself and saved $500, which was the quote I received from the mechanic I took it to. I was able to do it without disconnecting the u joint. Was able to do it in about 2.5 hours. And, wow! No more clicking and clunking. Been driving for years with this problem. Thanks for the insight which made it go much easier and smoother!

We tackled a 2013 Kia Optima. We did not disconnect the steering knuckle. It was a pain one big wire bundle was in our way but the younger guy was able to get motor off. Vaccum it out. Put the planned obsolescence rubber pee poor design gear in. Prayed a lot. Great relief when it worked. Amazing it even works with that ridiculous rubber gear. Two of us are sore after fighting that battle. Had a little jack stand under it while removing motor etc. Didn’t see this video till now. Other videos made it way easier than it was. I will never own one of these goofy set ups.

I'm going to comment on a bunch of these videos. I have a 2015 Kia Sorento. I took the whole thing apart and had to remove the fuse box(on some vids ppl didn't have to). I took the motor apart....to my surprise...NO GEAR!!!!!!! Spline type connection. I had a clunking sound but mainly it was after the car sat a while and after the initial noise it would rarely make the noise again. I was so mad when there was no coupler/Gear. I put everything back together and was looking around where the steering rod goes through the floor into this white cover type thing. GUESS WHAT WAS LAYING THERE!!!?? A PAIR OF PLIERS that the mechanic must have dropped and it was sitting on this thing where to me may have caused the noise!!! Just an FYI!!!
