Almost all trucks don’t have spare tyres. Let’s say the front 2 tyres popped and the mid-back axles tyres popped, you would take off the front two wheels and put two of the back tyres on the front. Then you’d chain the popped tyres axle up and you’d essentially be a 4 wheeler. Not safe one bit but technically possible.
Edit: I just realized you might think I’m talking about a European truck (people have thought things like that cause of how I type. I was raised in Europe till I was 12, I don’t have much of an accent but it’s definitely there. And when I’m typing I naturally say tyre or aluminium as well as not pronouncing the R. Just making sure we’re on the same page.

Here in Australia depending on how many trailers a truck is pulling, some may have between 6 to10 spare tyres for truck and trailer, including two decitated steer tyres. This is normal for isolated arreas. Also some trucking companies that haul on busier highways may not carry spare tyres as trye services are available in most towns.

They'd look extra badass if they had a spare wheel on the back of the cab, a big giant tire.

Not sure where you received your information, but truck drivers are mostly incapable of changing a tire. 1) the truck does not carry any tools, jacks or other items necessary and the average person cannot remove lug nuts without an impact. The truck does not provide enough air volume to run the impact. 2) You do NOT just jack up an axle anywhere. Often you must craw under the truck to place the jack and when you are lifting 34,000 lbs., you better know what you are doing. 3) While it is possible to change the outside tire without removing it from the truck, you still need to know what you are doing and the average person is incapable of doing so. 4) If you spare has been laying flat, often you need an air ring of other quick air method to get the tire to initially seal. Without that equipment, you are not going to inflate the spare. 5) Yes, you may find trucks carrying an extra tire, they still call roadside service to change it. These are usually owner-operators or a small truck line. The spare is for when there is not a replacement tire available. I drove a truck for years and also have changed my share of tires before becoming a driver.

Most likely why they not carry extra tires. They come up missing. Sometime and this happen to me the tire was too old for the tech to legally put it on the trailer. And the front tires have to be replaced as a set. And all truck and trailer use three or more types of tires. And in the U.S.A we the driver didn’t change the tire we have a tech. So why not just have them bring the tires with them. We call the company the company knows what type of tire is needed they tell them they drag out a new tire that they can legally use. Win win.

For various reasons, trucks don't carry spares.
Spare tires get stolen, drivers get hurt changing them and the liability if a driver changed the tire and it comes off going down the road

Yeeeee ok some do get stolen but not many I’ve worked on European fleets carrying a spare for truck and trailer on a frame carried on the trailer and didn’t get stolen
As for driver liability it’s down to training and general good drivers

  • @F150customs

This video is full of false information… all trucks in the USA have 4- 8 batteries the diesels that have 2 are pickup trucks. 90% of trucks don’t carry spare tires. Trucks themselves don’t have a intended spot for them only trls have that. Also, not truck driver changes a tire on a truck… that is 100% a road service job. Even if they have a spare you will still wait for someone else to change it. You need special tools such as a jack, huge air impact etc.
