Goes to show you don't always need big or flashy content. I'm perfectly happy watching a standard repair on an everyday car. You're the one who brings the entertainment. Keep the videos coming.
Your daughter stole my heart, maybe a year or so ago. You’re a very fortunate man, regardless of what you might think. Your Uncle is so Cool, and your daughter is beyond precious!
Now THAT is what I call patience! If I tried to help my Dad do anything at that age, he would have sent me away with some probably harsh words. But you and your Uncle not only didn't do that, you added her into the "loop" in helping. Nicely done!! Don't get me wrong, my Dad was a Master Plumber...and what he was dealing with at a Veterans Hospital...well it's best I wasn't there, if you know what I mean. On to the next video!! The Motary Notary is back with all new Cat shirts!!
Welcome back, Elliott! And a special welcome to “mechanic-in-training” little Charlotte, who was right in there helping you and Uncle Glen…gloves and all…. She’s learning from the best! Loved this video and always enjoy seeing how well you guys problem solve!
I was just wondering what happened to you, glad you are back at making videos again. BTW I love watching simple videos like this. Not everything has to be a 2-hour thrash to restore a car or else you lose the shop. Simple "This broke so let's fix it!" 20-30 minute videos are my UA-cam bread and butter.
I love these videos! This reminds me of being Charlotte's age, with my dad wrenching on our 1988 Chevy Nova Hatchback and wanting to do it myself when I was older. Thanks for the enjoyable video and happy memories, Elliott!
Love the mechanical episodes! That Ford pump was used in SOOOO many Fords, I have replaced a few, that tool is a pain. They are known to howl and fail, but at least they are very cheap. However, (avid Ford mechanic) the power steering system uses standard ATF, Dextron 3. Universal power steering fluid will cause it to fail prematurely or make noise. Love the content, keep it coming!

My son used to watch me attempting to work on my cars, asking loads of questions, so this was a wee trip down memory lane, and it’s good to give them the answers because that can keep them interested, you might have an apprentice on your hands sometime soon 😂
Thanks Paul! I've been meaning to email you. Check out the Worldwide catalog that they have online. They are going to be selling a splinter box that might interest you.
I love your Uncle's "Step number Next". I am probably going to end up adding that to my lingo. Sometime the best content a creator can make is the simple stuff where they can just be on camera. I enjoy watching you and your uncle wrenching together and involving your daughter is great to see. Every petrol head will enjoy some wholesome family wrenching.

Where is your daughter while you were on the test drive?? Do we have to call cps?? So good to see you back on a video!!! Your daughter really made this even better!!
You have a lovely daughter, Elliott! Years from now she will watch this video and understand more of what flew over her head but I am sure she will fondly remember the times she shared with you and Uncle Glen. Great video content and we are all glad to see you uploading!
My wife knows cars really well for the average 50-something woman, and it's from hanging out in the garage with her dad! Charlotte is off to a good start!
Glad to see you back, where have you been hiding? Your daughter is adorable, enjoy your time with her, she'll be grown up and gone before you can blink an eye!
Great to see more content from you Elliot. Refreshing to have someone explain why you can only make as many videos as you can. Keep ‘‘em coming ! I’ve got other mates in Australia that watch you too!
A length of hose with one end connected to the fitting and a rag wrapped around the loose end in pan would have saved the cleanup. You can also flush by jacking the front end up and with key "on" engine "off" turn the steering wheel/wheels back and forth from stop to stop so the motion of the rack and pinion unit will act as pump and the fluid will flow, great for bleeding the air out because you are pulling fluid from the reservoir instead of using the pump to push and fluid and mix air with it. just make sure the reservoir is kept full, No whines, No drips, No errors. Your little helper was a delight. Thank You ...
When I was your daughter's age I shadowed my grandfather around his garage. My favorite thing to do was find a flat-blade screwdriver and remove license plates and pry off hub caps.
Great to see a new video! I recently did a power steering pump on my Corvette. What a PITA! First time using a pulley puller too. After a some frustration (and sweat) I figured it out. Looking forward to more videos with your crew!
Your daughter is awesome, i laughed a lot to her questions and comments. And wonderful from you at you take her with you to do car things. Also hi for your uncle because hi is a some character. Sorry for my english if everything aren't correct.
The Ranger calls for Mercon V ATF fluid for the power steering fluid in the manual as most Fords of this era do. I'm not sure what the difference is with the power steering fluid you guys put in, but I think the ATF might be a bit thicker. That's what I put in my 2001 Mazda B3000 when I did the steering rack, which is really just a Ranger with a Mazda badge so it's the same truck.
At the end you talked about how easy it was to work on. Well if you have to change the water pump you have to take the sterling pump bracket off or move it a few inches to get to a few of the water pump bolts. I changed mine just to find out when i got it back together that the timing chain seal started leaking. Had to redo everything again. Enjoyed the video.
Why on Earth can't the pulley be put on the new pump, on the workbench? I was also thinking that you could've waited to remove the pulley from the pump, after it was removed from the car? It doesn't make sense that Ford and the service manuals all recommend doing it this way? If you put the pump in a vice etc. what exactly is the difference?
Wow charlottes probably going to take over your channel soon , love the fact she likes help her dad , my daughter used to help me in the shop when she was that age ….. soooooooooo many questions 😂😂😂😂😉👍🏻 enjoy the time Elliott it’s very precious!
-As to Ford Transmissions, I had a'97 Aerostar that when you drove it at high speed on the interstate, when you exited, it would "bang" shift. All you had to do was turn the car off and then start it back up, and it was fine again. I was told the F-4EAT transmission, also used on Nissan Pathfinders and Subaru Outbacks as well, all had this issue when a certain sensor in the engine went bad. He recommended rebuilding the thing; The car ran fine and was getting old, so I never did it. The Aerostar looked GREAT but had 165,000 miles. A contractor who worked on my house wanted it BAD, and I finally called him up one day in 2020 and offered it to him for $1000. He was at my house one hour later with a bank check! I bought the former Avis rental car in 2003 from a used car lot in Orlando for $3000 with 80,000 miles, so I guess I got my money's worth out of that van. About 6 months ago he showed up at my house; The van was almost unrecognizable, it was so beat up. So much for all those hours I spent waxing it to keep it looking presentable~
I found this after replacing my own power steering pump on my 2003 ranger. It took me six hours to get everything done. But only 2 hours of actual work on the truck. The rest was hunting down the pulley puller ha 🤣
Glad to see you making another video Elliott! But.... 8:10 "These things just go bad, they never go bad at a convenient time, or when you're not driving" I have a 2003 Ford Focus that has been sitting for a while, and I went to move it the other day. Prior to that, the car ran just fine (all things considered). Then out of nowhere, I had no power steering. So I open the hood, and there is power steering fluid all over the rear, and left side of my engine bay. I still need to figure out what let loose. Finally, sending some Happy First Birthday wishes! Cheers!
10:16 It does seem like putting the pulley on first would make more sense, but at least one of the mounting bolts is both barely shrouded by the pulley and slightly too long to sneak past. One of those "mechanics vs. engineers" things my grandfather would always gripe about.
I did the pro quipped pump conversion on my 1997. Wrestled too many of these to consider it anymore. Saginaw unit is whisper quiet in comparison. If it ever needs to be swapped again it's way easier
