Beautiful cars (but I like the Grand Prix of the same years better). My friend's dad had a 1979 Grand LeMans 4 door sedan in that very popular light blue with the matching blue cloth interior. Was a very nice car for the times and the interior was so luxurious and that dashboard was the icing on the cake. The car had most of the options, including the power rear vent windows.

But not just driving, you were "given a car as a gift" at 12. All this adds up to horrible parenting by giving a high value gift (even $200 is high value for a child) to a kid. If anything it's called being total douchebag parents. What other things did they enable you with back then to make you act so entitled today?

My dad bought an ‘80 Grand Lemans used in 1987. Light gray with a dark blue interior. A stylish comfy car. But even with the optional 301 V8 ‘performance’ was a joke, like most other cars of the era. Same goes for the usual rust around the rear window. Also, the rear vent windows had a way of trapping moisture, creating rust holes underneath. The moldings on the bumpers had screws in them because the factory glue became loose. Overall a poor fit & finish. The front seatbelts never locked, not even on hard stops, something I have noticed on other GM cars too. He still drove that car for 9 years🙄
