The Canucks looked super in their heads in this game. You can't play good hockey if you're afraid to make a mistake. Too much fan/playoff pressure. I expect (hope for) a better performance next game in Nashville.

When the sedins stopped playing 2019, Pettersson started making the Canucks what they are today. Everyone fought to this moment with excitement because of him. He’s the man
They just lost their top goalie, everyone was nervous out there, and NO ONE was scoring. Suter missed about half a dozen tap ins and Miller looked lost as well. It's not just Petey, but he was the one who got called out as he's the top earner. Plenty more hockey to be played.
DeSmith leads the league in letting in the first shot. I think he is currently on a three game streak, and one of those games it was the first two shots.
That 1st goal was soft. He was caught cheating on it.

You want the simple answer? You recall what won him rookie of the year don't you. Triple digit and uber accurate slapshots. Consistent 93 mph wristers, equally accurate. Top tier speed. Pettersson is playing Toccchet's TEAM system. None of which plays into Petey's strengths. Tocchet has faiedl to utilize Petey's skills . The 'system works! No one can argue that it doesn't. There is no other gear left to be had without some adjustment to create space via his or a line's speed and cut him lose. Otherwise, trade him in the off-season for both his sake and the teams. JMO, though.
You speak a lot of sense. I see that as well. But I also think it is about other players eating up his role on the ice, which becomes detrimental to his play over time; it's about bad dynamics between players on the ice too. He doesn't get to grow confident in what he is suppose to do, and that comes from individual player choices. As you say, his strengths are limited and aren't utilized correctly, and that will show over time as it has.
Out of hundreds of nonsense written here, this makes the most sense. The system works. Petey at 5-on-5 is playing the system very well, I've never noticed him being out of position. He is always supporting the puck. But that has killed his ability to generate offence on his own. I think there are two ways to bring his offence back. 1. Get him an elite scoring winger. Imagine Petey having Marchand and Pasta as wingers like Bergeron did. 2. Move him to the wing. Obviously, option 1 is impossible in the playoffs as we can't acquire players now. Option 2 is the way to go, either re-uniting the lotto line or move up Lindholm to 2C and Petey to the wing with Hoglander on the either side. Bluegar is good enough as a 3C between Joshua and Garland for this series. For the future seasons, I hope we can get excellent scoring wingers for Petey.
This is true and that people cannot see this is outrageous. His talent is so wasted on 2nd and 3rd line as well.

If EP becomes a major part of Canucks cup run I would be surprised. He is being played on the 2nd and 3rd lines while Boeser and Miller are allowed to juice their stats. This could mean a 2nd round exit. Was it worth losing EPs confidence to boost their stats?
Not saying it was DeSmith's fault, but they limited Nashville to 16 shots, not much more you can do from a defensive standpoint
Umm it takes 3-4 goals to win most hockey games... 1 goal is not enough.

Exactly. It just wasn’t good enough. DeSmith let in the absolute worst garbage goal ever, and once again gave us sub .800 SV%.
But even then, the absolute worst Canuck was Petterson. My god I’ve never seen him that bad.

2014 they got to Carey Price .fast forward 2024 the next Price like goalie , Demko. They got to him just before the playoffs started. Vancouver was the best team to break the Canadian drought . Now it will be a rematch of last year's final , after all its sports entertainment.
Pettersson is not to blame here ,but it's clear they want to make him the scape goat .But clearly it was pre mediated murder on this franchise by taking out the biggest threat to America , the Demkonator
Series isn't over, Canucks can still win. The remaining Canadian teams can get it done to.

Petey is a regular season player and won't have any impact in the playoffs other than maybe a PP goal here and there. Just like Marner. Way too much money for way too little when it counts most.
100%. Playoff players can SKATE and play through contact. He can't do either one at an NHL level. Just like you said, he'll get the occasional PP goal or goal from a stand-still spot at the hashes, but he just can't skate at a play-off level, and that causes all kinds of breakdowns.

Pettersson was directly involved in 3 of the Preds goals, including putting one into his own net. Guy floats around like a cloud, doesn't want to be hit, and seems to just feel ok doing nothing. He's going to be a problem for this team if he can't turn it around. He was never worth 11+

Petey definitely has some kind of wrist injury. Having said that, he is our next Loui.
He played in game 82 in the regular season. There's no injury, stop making excuses. He's just in a brutal shooting slump, and has always been one of the worst skaters in the NHL. When you can't fall back on skating, and the shots are landing, you look like him right now.

Canucks traded Kuzmenko and got nothing back. Now EP40 has no winger to play with. He’s got 4th liners as his wingers what’s he supposed to do.
4th liners didn't cause any single one of the mistakes in the video above. It's not his line mates that are the problem, it's his awful skating, and his awful mental toughness.
Tocchets expectations and style of play is not geared towards what made Petey great from his beginning…it’s like watching him on training wheels trying not to disappoint and not f up…completely distracted…plus that much money has got to weigh you down…not too mention the expectations that come with it and the fact no man, dead or alive is worth that much money, anywhere, period! Management screwed the knucks for years to come with that Contract. If Petey and his agent were smart they would renegotiate and settle on s9meth8ng realistic, worth his skills and play8ng up to…not a shipping container anchor for the rest of his career no matter where he goes…tocchet has taken the fun out of the game for Petey…he no longer fits…
He should tell what is the problem. It is like he has a twin who is not even half the player he is and the twin should stop playen and tell Elias Pettersson to get back in the team .

Petey needs to be alot better no question. But this is also a by product of Rick Tochett. He got rid of Kuzmenko because he didnt play enough defense. And now Pettersson is lost without him and producing zero offense.
The last person who's fault it is is tochett. He turned around a complete dumpster fire into a division winner. If Pettersson can't play structured hockey maybe he needs to get traded too
Almost like they knew it would happen when the traded kuzy eh! I’m convinced management, coaching personelle were brought in to meet the Bettmans Canadian team status quo and “manage” the knucks in a way for them to succeed but not too much if you get my drift..the fix is in, and it’s deep!

Easy. No physicality and he’s streaky. Not a great recipe for the post season. Playoffs are completely different and there isn’t a lot of space out there. Players gotta adapt or revel in mediocrity.

I agree with all the comments on Petterson I’m really disappointed in his play especially since the all star break but as much as I like Tocchet he keeps putting him out there in key situations power play penalty killing that open net he missed I think my 80 year old mother could have scored that I know I get it players miss but that was a duck and would have changed the game. Then giving up the puck at the blue line for a Nashville goal he bobbles the puck he can’t drive a line. Isn’t it time that he needs to be benched and maybe he can reset or count all the money he’s stealing from the Canucks. Jesus man he’s a liability.

Elias Pettersson, Mr "11.6" was a minus 3 on the night. Defensively just terrible ! Can't even score on a wide open net ! Do not like his overall play and attitude. Hope he can earn his money, soon.

Petey was playing good under Bruce. Tocchet made him change his style and he is not the same player that would skate deke and shoot. He’s been reduced to chipping away along the boards and trying to get the puck from the crowd of players. Petey’s game went downhill when they traded Kuzmenko. Lindholm is useless. Hughes takes too much time with the puck while everyone is standing at the blue line waiting. Standing behind the net with 17 seconds to go in the period. I’ve seen many goals scored from one end to the other in 17 seconds. De Smith lets in a goal in the first shot while the crowd is chanting his name. What a loser.
