Apollo Twin X (Thunderbolt 3) Windows Issues

- Wanted to throw up a quick video the covers my brief (30 day) experience with the new Apollo Twin X Thunderbolt 3 audio interface, which according to the UAD website is 'compatible' with Windows 10. But given its lack of support for WDM drivers, and the many workarounds required for it to work in Windows, I beg to differ.

UPDATE: I switched to the Apogee Symphony Desktop and am loving it! ua-cam.com/video/lTvhPcApfvY/v-deo.html
I genuinely cant thank you enough for this video. I just won this interface in a giveaway and i run pc so now i know i need to sell it. theres just no way im gonna go through all these workarounds
You just have to install Voicemeeter X64 and configure it to use your UAD on PC without issues! ;)
Apogee makes incredible interfaces…. UAD devices are top of the line… YOu can’t get better gear…. Just different gear. As an interface the Apollo and the apogee will let you record tracks that you can take into the studio and continue using…. If you’re using a focusrite pro-Sumer interface you’re gonna be in trouble using files recorded through those converters as the ouput on a professional device will be HOTTER than how it was recorded….. So if you record on a pro-Sumer interface and want to ever use your tracks in a professional setting, DON’T RECORD HOT…. Keep your RMS levels around -22dbfs …. That’s almost 10db lower than where the converters are aligned in those crappy devices BUT you’ll be able to actually use those files later.
The symphony seems awesome. Just curious, why did you get the Thunderbolt on the Twin over the Usb version? Just recently got a great deal on a Twin Usb and I’m loving it. That apogee does seem awesome too though!
@@Noisa @Mega Honestly, because I had just bought a new motherboard that had two T3 ports on it (one was for my new T3 NAS). Funny enough I now use neither of the T3 ports.. just not stable enough on windows. Maybe TB4 will be better.
"UAD clearly prioritizes MacOS with their devices. Don't then market it like it's supported in Windows when it's clearly not."
THANK YOU. I've had the same problem with Avid and their interfaces. I was looking for a high end interface comparable to that price point and I was about to consider universal audio. This video just saved me multiple weeks worth of headaches. I think I'll consider Apogee or Focusrite in leu of this. Thank you for the video.
UAD should support Windows better. I’ve used it on Mac but that is waaaay to expensive these days. And Im not sinking more money in UAD if the support isnt there
it does
Word. UA should think about cost effectiveness of a windows computer. If we don't have to buy into another computer, then we have way more to spend on UA gear.
I use a DELL G3 17 laptop that includes Thunderbolt 3 input. I was considering on buying the Apollo Twin X, but after watching this video my wallet is so thankfull with you bro!
This is the 2nd or 3rd time I’ve tried uad on Windows. And....failure.
PAINFULLY HONEST TECH maybe someday... but don’t hold your breath.
ehyo I got the UA Apollo twin thunderbolt and I had 2 days but I solved my issues now. It was a must for me to use the asio driver from of the UA interface. But WIndows just showed me the WDM Driver. So I downloaded VoiceMeteer Banana gave it a try. The problem there was the same. I only saw the WDM and MME Driver. So I finally realized the VoiceMeteerBanana is a 32bit Software. So I switched to the VoiceMeeterPotato64 bit and there it is!!! You will find the asio ua apollo thunderbolt driver. Mic Speaker and Headphones are working fine now!!
@@shinychickenfps Oh man I hope this works for me. Do you need to use the voicemeeter banana for all your routing or does everything just work inside console and your daw? (just ordered an apollo and it should arrive in a week or so or i'd just try it myself) Thanks
@@jamesrachansky6575 I use Voicemeeter Potato 64bit. Its really really important that you go into the souce path in windows and search the x64 version. Default is 32bit so you wont find the thunderbolt ASIO Driver in it. Only in the x64 version. Thats the most important thing. So just download Voicemeeter Potato and the UA Software from the official website and you should be fine.
My friend uses it on windows and he loves it
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO. I've felt like i've been on a stranded island when it comes to using this interface!
I have an Apollo Twin for PC / Windows 10. My laptop specs are great but every month I run into a few days where the crackling/popping becomes constant and it just messes up my listening. I've tried every last troubleshooting method, contacting Sweetwater/UAD (doesn't help Covid was happening recently to where they literally had no one on the customer service phone lines) and nothing works. It weirdly fixes itself after a few days (?)
But eventually comes back. It's so inconvenient for such a pricey/quality product when working correctly.
it work great on windows, just follow rtfm and setup things right

MY SOLUTION: I struggled with the same problem. I changed the C state in the Bios, disabled Intel SpeedStep and followed other optimization steps found in Universal Audio's help website, however the same problem persisted. I decided to update the Thunderbolt Firmware on my MSI laptop ( just look up Thunderbolt 3 MSI FIrmware on UA-cam and you'll find the tutorial) , then matched the sample rate on 1) the UAD Console 2) Sound Control Panel 3) my DAW. I had to go into the BIOS to ENABLE Thunderbolt Firmware Updates, as in the factory BIOS this setting was turned to DISABLED. After this simply Turn OFF and ON the Apollo interface. Hope this helps.
Hi I'm having the same issue I have the Asus Z490, I can't make it work
Where's the rest of the comment?
Step 1: Match the audio Bit rate in windows control panel, DAW, and in your Audio interface's native application
Step 2: Enable virtual 1/2 on audio interface (routes all sound coming in/out of audio interface back into itself as a new audio channel)
Step 3: Select the Virtual 1/2 in any program such as OBS, Discord etc and you're good to go
Remember for 95% of the population mac works best, but once you've chosen to work in programs for the top 5% windows reigns supreme. You will be frustrated, you will want to throw away your computer BUT once you figure it out you will know all the ins and outs of your computer. When anything goes wrong (trust me it will) you will know exactly where to look to resolve the problem. You are now both the mechanic and the race car driver.............
Who tried this ?
Or I can use my Focusrite and get to work within two seconds. If you're really looking for that kind of interface, I'd recommend something different.
can you explain or tell us how to setup th I/O for the virtual channels please lol
Yeeah, no. I Should be able to plug and play just like how they have it with Mac. Nobody has time to do all of this for something just to work. I would just rather use something else that you know...WORKS.
@@qtippz there isn’t anything that sings as good what can you compare apollo with???? Help me!!! I’m not giving up on my pc
Did you try using the included Universal Audio ASIO driver for Windows? That ASIO app you showed is something people use to aggregate multiple audio devices. I have an Apollo x4 on a 2018 Omen laptop with onboard TB3 and have no issues. Matching sample rates is a principal audio rule for recording , and once I did that I can get audio from Windows with no problem. UA has a recent post(last Tuesday 8/18/20) about using WMD drivers with Apollos, but I never had to go that route.
Hey Robert, I am a little late but am running into issues and have an identical set up with an Apollo x4 and Omen Laptop, how did you effectively get rid of the crackling noise issue?
dude its not a windows issue... its an issue with your specific build. im using one on both a razer blade and pc build with a gigabyte motherboard. windows sound works fine without that asio tool any third party software... it switches sample rates on its own just fine ... wdm works fine... i didnt change any settings or do anything special. i simply installed the uad software, plugged it in and the audio was instantly routed to it. in fact my pc audio shows up as a channel within the console.
Hey man. After a long story I ended up buy getting Arrow from UA, I have a Desktop ( Windows) and I don`t know what kind of adapter that you used ? Would you like to assist me with that ? I do not have Thunderbolt in my Dell Desktop, I do have just regular USB ports. Thank you.
@@fretBeastForever do you have type c usb?
@leebeats how did you get this to work with your razor blade laptop
OMG this interface has been the most frustrating of any I've owned in the last 20 years. It's like there is a bitcrusher effect on at all times.
I'm dealing with exactly the same thing. Bit crushed obnoxious audio and constant popping. I've solved the issue by disabling my CPU from turbo boosting past it's base clock speed with throttlestop... however that significantly limits my cpu performance.
@@davidleefiddler1075 Same crap man... I've unchecked SpeedStep and C1E in throttlestop, but should i check the "disable turbo" box too? thanks for the help
If the UA drivers for Windows support ASIO, you don't need any third party software to use it. In fact, you SHOULD NOT use any third party software in the middle at all. You should be able to use the interface natively from any application that supports ASIO (like most DAWs), and the audio should record and playback without problems and with the lowest latency possible. Maybe I didn't understand your video completely well, but it sounded to me like you tried to use the interface in an application via WDM using a 3rd party routing ASIO to WDM, and that's always buggy. All known programs that convert ASIO to WDM work pretty bad, starting by adding latency to the routing.
Now, one thing is to be able to use the interface natively with ASIO from a DAW, and another that the interface drivers don't support WDM and can't directly be used (or even seen) by the OS and other applications that don't support ASIO. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't work properly using ASIO, without any 3rd party software in the middle, from a DAW.
Another thing I saw in the post you showed at 8:52, is that, this user specifically, is clearly having a completely different issue: confusing USB-C with Thunderbolt. He connected his interface to USB-C and Windows warned him about limited functionality for a Thunderbolt device, precisely because he doesn't have Thunderbolt. Same connector, same cable, but not the same kind of bus.
It COMPLETELY sucks that UA doesn't have WDM drivers and the interface cannot be used like other interfaces for any program running in the OS and making it invisible in the list of audio devices for Windows iteself. But, if the interface can indeed be used by a DAW directly via ASIO, then that's why they're marketing it as compatible with Windows. They sure should clarify this situation with WDM, or even better, start providing WDM drivers like any other respectable company.
Yes the image I showed was for an unrelated issue. I couldn’t find the post at the time of editing. But I did work with UA directly and ask them point blank “will you be supporting WDM drivers in the near future” and there answer was no. Thus I sent back the Apollo and pre ordered my symphony desktop.
Tl:dw, he's not using this in a typical music studio set up. He's using other programs that need different sample rates and non-asio drivers. If you're looking at Apollo for for music only and you have Thunderbolt you're good.
Thanks man for the reassurance. On Windows 10, Can I plug in my Thunderbolt 2 Apollo Twin into a Thunderbolt 3 port with one cable? Or do I need a TB2 > TB3 adaptor?
This is why i stick with RME and their rock solid drivers.
@@RonnieVaiArovo Google search or UA website
@@RonnieVaiArovo its an adapter thats made by startech tb3 to tb2 thats supposed to work..mine came in yesterday and it didnt work because i think your motherboard has to have tb3 on it NOT USBC3.1
So not, the Apollo X crackles continuously not matter what the usage on both my machines with Thunderbolt. They are alienware, that may be the commonality? But I can't record to anything to playback without click pops or stuttering. I contacted UA support and they gave up.
I watched a lot of videos on this as I've been trying to get my new ApolloX4 to work with my Neumann TLM103 on a Windows 10 PC with Thunderbolt. I was definitely shocked to hear the garbage that was coming out of my microphone after spending so much money on it. I thought it was definitely me as I am new to this kind of gear. Now I'm learning that it is my Windows PC. My audio sounds exactly like the example in this video.
I watched a lot of other videos tried using ASIO and i feel like it is a sketchy set up. Nice to have someone give it to me straight and really explain it. Basically I need to get a MAC and accept the fact that the Apollo will work best with a MAC. Thanks for being so knowledgeable and making this video!
Glad it helped! If you are set on getting a professional interface working on windows, I can definitely recommend the new apogee symphony desktop. I’ve been using it for the past 2 months and it works great.
I heard RME Babyface Pro FS is just the best for windows audio interface
You as he are doing it all wrong. Your probably over driving your DAW if your getting distortion or using the wrong as II driver as he was.
I own a Razer Blade 15 base model from mid 2019. Windows 10. I struggled to connect my device (Apollo Twin Duo Mk II - Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter connection). Then I typed in Thunderbolt on my windows search bar. Clicked on an app my system had installed called "Thunderbolt Control Center". Plugged in my device and thankfully for me the control center recognized it. I then clicked on the tab next to the name of my Apollo Twin and changed it from "Do Not Connect" to "Always Connect" and this immediately fixed my issues and took me to downloading the UAD software to recognize and allow my device to function properly. Hope this is helpful for anyone in a similar situation.
There needs to be a fix for this. This is unacceptable for a "pro" device. My steinberg ci1 (which was 50 bucks) worked with wdm and my twin doesn't. Saying it's a "windows compatible" device is an outright lie and false advertising. Avoid at all costs if you're a windows user.
It works. You just set it up wrong
@@themathrock1607 and how u set it up right?
2022 update: UAD still refuses to fix their drivers, not limited to just the twin x
ASIO is windows, Core Audio is for Mac. A thunderbolt device is probably more for DAW use on Windows
yes if you install asio in windows the apollo works jsut fine, dont you agree?
I use my asio just for pro tools and set the windows media to out the onboard interface. Windows on board audio and uad devices at 96k is two different resolutions.
If browse the internet on UA-cam I have set up windows to only play out my computer on board audio so it does not interfere with with pro tools running on the apollo.
I have the option to run windows on apollo but record in 96K.
The best thing about using the onboard audio for windows and asio for pro tools is that when make a mp3 file from pro tools, I use windows media player and wmp only play on the computer onboard audio not the uad interface.
if you used the apollo on windows playback device while using pro tools sometimes the uad controller won't stay at one resolution. Set windows audios to play out another audio device.
If I have a focusrite and a uad I would set windows audio to only play out the focusrite while uad is for pro tools.
Dude this answered all the issues I’ve been having with my Twin MKII and OBS. I’ve done everything to link my 32-Bit with OBS and nothing works. But other than OBS, I have had no issues with my DAW (Studio One) and other apps. Thanks for the info!
what motherboard are you running to support the apollo twin mkii? i just purchased mine yesterday and my motherboard (aorus ultra x570) doesnt support it i dont think. I also bought the adapter from tb3 to tb2 and wont work. I dont know if i have to buy a new motherboard or by the pcie slot with tb3 on it.
@@ILaxative you have to make sure that your motherboard supports thunderbolt connectivity first and foremost. Other than that, you should be able to run it no problem
Thank you for this video, I was considering Twin X or a SSL 2+ with some additional plug-ins , will be getting SSL instead since I'm on a pc workstation most of the time.
FYI
The Apollo Twin DUO is made primarily for PC and does not need Thunderbolt. It's the Twin X series that's made for Mac. The Twin series is lighter grey, the Twin X is the darker graphite. Unfortunately, only the Twin X series has the QUAD, which means 4 Sharc processors in the interface. Apollo clearly does not tailor their products for PCs, which sucks :(
Exactly, I feel like most of my problems stemmed from the fact that I was trying to use a thunderbolt 3 device on PC. And many people have said in these comments that the usb one is more stable. However the fact of the matter is UAD doesn’t support MME Windows drivers, which while they certainly are not a professional audio driver especially for DAWs, still a lot of everyday programs rely on MME drivers to work properly and conveniently
@@FilmIn5D I just bought a brand new PC and literally upgraded it with a Thunderbolt expansion card a month later because I was about to buy the Apollo Twin X QUAD, only to find out that it's not gonna work with PC :( thank you for the quick reply tho :)
@fu J I dont know anything about that device
UAD devices don't work well with windows as a result of
1) Compatibility issues as a result of hardware diversification on windows platforms
2) UAD exclusivity rights with intel and apple
3) Poor software support by microsoft, too many regular updates which are always poorly implemented by microsoft which break system settings coupled with fragmented system driver software across windows platform
4) Misrepresentation of product support on Windows platform by UAD.
You did something wrong. My Apollo works fine with WDM. Been great for years.
i just got this thing today from guitar center. i wish they would have told me it did not come with the cable to connect it. i never been threw that with nothing i purchased. im in here tryna plug up all these different cables and changing all these setting in my computer. im very frustrated. now i have to ride way back across town to give this thing back. congrats to the people that can use it.
I have Apollo 8p and Twin MKII thunderbolt run on Windows 10.....there are lot of glitches but DAW works absolutely fine no problem!!! only when you playback from computer or UA-cam the audio pops and Cracks!!!! UA technical support is so bad that they took 4 months to solve it but still no solved yet!!!!
Yes they told be directly that they had no immediate plans to add support for MME
Maybe try a Focusrite Clarett if you're looking for a step up from the Scarlett
Just bought a UA Apollo TB3 for my Windows Laptop and there are two issues (One I resolved). 1) Crackling popping during playback [Resolved] had to change to 48k or 96k for Windows Playback Speed & UA Console Setting. 2) Recording with WDM has distorted sound. Lead me to this video and I'm glad he documented this. My issue is only with recording, not playback. The issue with recording is the bit depth is locked at 32bit but most apps only support 16bit in WDM. I wanted to use this with Davinci Resolve to do ADR but it is looking like that isn't going to work. I also have a Focurite Clarett 2Pre which doesn't have any issue with WDM/ASIO or managing any driver settings. My biggest issue with the 2Pre is that is doesn't have DSP but they both sound amazing.
I just learned to live with it lol. If I go from audio production to UA-cam I just turn the Apollo on and off😂
Ya I thought about doing that but I was still in my return window and there was a better option for me coming out
For what this thing costs I don't like that solution.
"When connecting Apollo to the computer always check the orientation of the Thunderbolt cable. The Thunderbolt logo must be face up on the Thunderbolt cable when plugged into both the Apollo and the computer - if the Thunderbolt logo is not face up then the cable is inserted upside-down, which can be done fairly easily. On iMac computers, the Thunderbolt logo on the Thunderbolt cable should face left (when looking at the back of the iMac)."
From UAD's website: help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/205927089-Apollo-Thunderbolt-Connection-Info
This is something that I never heard of - even UAD support didn't told me to try this. I returned my unit 4 months ago and today I heard about this. Hard to believe it would solve the problem, but I hope it works for someone.

Very helpful. About 90% of the audio guys are on mac and swear by the Apollo but I’ve been hearing very good things about RME and antelope and focusrite. I have the Scarlett focusrite 6i6 but I’m really not sure if I really need to upgrade. I use that interface on my 2012 Mac mini but when I mix on it in logic the cpu struggles. I also have a $4k powerhouse custom pc but all my third party plugins and daws are on my Mac mini. I also bought my first preamp the tb12 tone beast and power conditioner and some active Avantone mix cubes but the interface seems to be the deciding factor with its connections and Apple m1 chips just came out also. Oh the frustration
Hey can you clarify for me, as I've been looking at getting this device. All I want is as professional level audio interface as I can get, purely for music recording. I use my focusrite 2i2 for basic desktop audio, so I have no need or interest in using the Apollo twin for that. I just want it to work with recording in Ableton. Are you saying that I won't be able to do this natively without using some dodgy third party drivers?
It works on windows and night and day difference against regulr usb interface. Literally no latency when you drive Ableton directly to UAD. With official drivers. AND you get streaming/zoom/itunes playing as great and robust
Great. You confirmed my research.
I am moving from an old 2012 macbook pro to a custom PC workstation with a ryzen 3950x, the x570 gigabyte Aorus master motherboard comes with a thunderbolt header to which one can connect a PCIe thunderbolt 3 adaptor to connect the UAD interface which I've been using for several years now, I'll see how that goes as soon as I run some tests otherwise I'll have to sadly leave UAD for a USB interface.
If my UAD Apollo twin doesn't work then I'll maybe consider the SSL 2+ interface for audio on a PC with Ableton
Update?
I'm also building a new PC, AMD have really great options, but working with audio may be a issue... Also Apple will move away from intel, so IDK what will happen to Thunderbolt interfaces
Update is it's working like a charm without any hiccups on thunderbolt! My UAD audio interface is working just like it did on my Mac without any issues!
This is what I done:
1. Connect the Gigabyte Titan ridge thunderbolt PCIe adaptor to motherboard and into PC header.
2. Connect Startech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 1&2 adaptor to the card to the titan ridge card.
3. Connect the UAD audio interface to the Startech Thunderbolt adaptor.
All done and working perfectly and sounds beautiful!
The computer store said this is the first time ever they've had a request for an AMD custom build with thunderbolt as it's usually always Intel, but they were impressed that it works flawlessly!
I just hope that thunderbolt become a standard connection on all motherboards as it'll open many options for creatives like myself to actually build a PC with a better connection than a USB interface.
Also if you want to know my basic specs it's as follows:
AMD 3950x
Gigabyte x570 Aorus master motherboard
64GB G Skill Trident RAM.
Gigabyte Titan ridge thunderbolt PCIe card & the Startech Thunderbolt adaptor.
That's great!
There are few AMD mobos with straight support to TB, I think it is worth trying, if any problem will buy the same TB PCI card as you!
Cheers
@@jhanninnen you're welcome man, hope it works out for you, but my advice is check out the motherboard details and see if it's compatibility is listed on the Gigabyte Titan ridge site as it lists which motherboard works with it. That's how I got it working, other people seem to buy stuff without checking then complaining and making videos but they never checked first and seeing if works with their motherboard first before purchase, because there's 2 titan ridge cards and they each work with different motherboards.

The real issue is that at first it seems that it works for expansion cards, but actually after windows update it stops working in windows. That makes people waste time and money. Hey there mate, Really ejoyed your video! very insightful. I have a Surface Laptop running Ableton Live 9 - wanted to ask whether that will be at compatible with the Twin X or the Mk II?
Universal Audio does have support videos showing users how to setup Ableton. You might want to check those out before making a decision. I personally have 5 years of voice over work through Adobe, so I currently don't want to change. I've never had a problem with an interface until my Apollo Twin X Thunderbolt. It's going back this week.
This is why I stick with RME and their rock solid drivers.
Imagine RME released a thunderbolt 3 interface.
Tascam 102i/208i are your friend. Native ASIO drivers for windows, stable down to 4 samples (yeah, 4, that's lower than everyone), should have the lowest latency, also, sounds AMAZINGLY better than the Scarlett, I have heard them side by side. Wish it was USB3.0 or Thunderbolt 3, but apparently it doesn't matter at the 10-20 input level of their devices.
Also, I ALMOST bought the Apollo, thanks for saving me the headache, I need compatibility with both Win/Mac as well.
Man you have some nice gear. Speaking from 2024
In Reaper the solution was to use Reaper 64 and set the ASIO audio device settings for Thunderbolt 3. Fixed it.
Does the interface still work well with other apps though, instead of purely for Reaper?

Great Video!!. I have a UAD Apollo twin that I just pulled out of the closet. I am not going to go through the headache of connecting it to my PC (which I couldn't right now anyway). I would need to do a complete rebuild for the specs e.g. Thunderbolt 2 etc.
I would like to use it with my old Macbook Pro (late 2013? - considered obsolete/vintage) My plan would be to use my PC for Web Development and Design (Adobe CC full suite, Node, React.js) and use the mac ONLY for audio creation using the Apollo. My Question to you is - Should I just sell the Apollo seen as I'm using my PC as my main machine, or would my old Mac be ok for audio if I'm only running Pro Tools, or Ableton live etc?
Finally, I plan to create video for a UA-cam channel on my PC. It has the power to handle Premier and after effects comfortably. I would be recording all audio into the Mac and transferring it into Premier on the PC.......It already sounds like a headache, and I'm only asking for advice because I'd love to use the UAD again. Any guidance greatly appreciated.

I lost that day for recording (another guy that I know had the same problem too, but with another interface hahaha), besides Mac gets obsolete too fast! Now I use PC (Asrock brand for MB with Core i7 8700k) for my Clarett 8Prex and it works like a charm! Windows can update whenever it wants and still no issues after a year; too bad for UAD, I was thinking in buying one of their products, but I will not! I will look after Apogee. Thanks for the info, man!
Thanks for the vid. Just got a Universal Audio Arrow today. I was turbo excited for it. Plug it into my windows machine and its just a problem. Going back to my motu :I
The sound quality is at pro standard, many established artists record their songs and vocals on this beast. Its definitely used for DAWS mostly in combination with Apples industry standard recording software Logic Pro X. Universal Audio highly recommends this device to be used on Apple hardware. Its not really designed specifically for normal everyday use. In the camera and photography world you'll fin the same thing. For example, medium format type cameras deliver incredible photos but are not recommended to take such camera outside and snap away. Its for a specific audience, in this case recording artists, engineers and producers, not so much normal consumers.
I got rid of my Apollo twin duo bc of the issues I was having. Got it fix and after a month later another problem occur. So done with uad. They don’t support pc that well so I don’t recommend any one getting it for pc.
It works for me man flawless check my other response on another comment above.
@@CreativeRamy Hello, what PC do you have? How did you make it work without problems? Please, if you could answer me, this morning I got an Apollo X6 and I am an INTEL user, Windows 10 Pro.
@@imif_music9710 did it all work out for you, any problems?
what uad has not even a windows driver for the Interface ? i must download buggy asio4all ?
are you going to test out the apollo solo? I see they made a windows usb c version which might have better support for window
I think it’s still thunderbolt 3 though and I doubt the firmware is anymore compare it’s windows than the Apollo was. I will be staying away from UAD until they announce full support for windows.
Can you just have an ADAT controller and plug it via ADAT?
this was my exact question thank you for the warning
runnin out of plug resources on the twin is a pain, sometime two plugs take up all the dsp smh
i have a razer blade 15 2019 . i use pro tools for vocals and fl studio for making instrumentals and stuff. i have a sm7b microphone. i was thinking of buying the apollo twin x duo. shoukd i go for it. i want really good quality vocals. please give me suggestion bro.
Not for pc!!!
Sounds like you have a pretty mobile setup. If you will ONLY be using the Apollo to record your microphone then maybe it will be good for you. But like I mentioned in the video you will need to download asio pro link and route the channels and make sure all the sample rates line up with pro tools/fl studio/and uad console. Kinda frustrating but if you can deal with it then the uad plugins are great and the quality of the Apollo twin is great. Also make sure you have thunderbolt 3 and just beware that it can be glitchy in windows 10.
@@FilmIn5D yeah i had rzer blade 15 because i play games too . it worked well with my focusrite 2i2. now i've been thinking of upgrading . so twin x . but like if it has problems with windows . why dont i just get macbook pro . it should not have any problems with apple right .
RYAN KASHYAP nope, works perfectly with apple
I have my Apollo x6 connected to my dell xps 15 9550 laptop for a year by now without any issues.
GREAT video, Aaron. This is my first video I've watched from your channel. Excellent information and clarity on everything. I do have to ask one thing though... Why an EVGA soundcard with such a great pair of headphones like the DT 1990s? You could get so much more performance out of a dedicated external DAC and headphone amplifier. Just some forward thinking. Thank you for the content as I just purchased an Apollo Solo USB version myself for Windows 10. USB 3.0 cable comes tomorrow and will let ya know how it goes.
So, is it working proprely ?
@@lYanex not
MINE KEEP ON CRACKLING I TRIED UPGRADING MY PC FOR 3K USD AND STILL DOESNT WORK
I notice the hi z meters don’t display input level on the front panel when I have a unison amp on the hi z channel 1 .
I use the ASIO4 driver for many device with Cubase. It is not a problem. Cubase loads ASIO4 when it opens...and then Windows goes back to the windows driver for other software. It's not a problem. I don't need to use the UAD for other aps.
Okay so as a user of Apollo for windows I will tell you how to use Apollo. Now first off I understand that uad focus is Mac but I use the USB version and the basic setup to console is the only "problem". If you aren't going to use the plug ins for zero latency recording and monitoring go to rme (I saw you went with another company that was made for Mac)
now what about for monitoring effects in real time for recording vocals, specifically autotune. I use Fl Studio 20 and have an i7 4 core processor. Would the RME allow me to do this or should I get the apollo? My decision is strictly being able to monitor effects without latency, I dont mind going back and adding third party plugins in post. I also plan on getting a 6 core processor.
Hard to beat RME for latency and drivers. However some effects create so much latency that no device will give you workable playback. research which plugins you use and what their latency is... if you want the onboard apollo effects then that will be fastest possible..
I have the focusrite 18i8 2nd gen and I have usb disconnect issues after long periods of use. Sometimes it fails to recognise at all. I've had windows crash because of this interface. Are there any tips on what I can do to fix this issue?
There is an usb version of apollo twin, it's the heritage version, how would this work for pc?
Thanks a lot for these insights.
Hi how are you? what is the best version to use on windows 10, using ableton?
my motherboard its thunderbolt capable with a Pcle. i have windows im thinking on getting the apollo solo but i dont want to get the usb version. would the thunderbolt would work with the card?
what if you have a thunderbolt pci card? wouldn't that solve the issues?
Hi, I bought a twin x yesterday. My laptop is a MacBook Pro and I installed a windows 10 on it. My dealer told me I can't use it in windows on Mac. Is that true ? Can I do something to make it happen? I already downloaded a thunderbolt driver. My windows now can use thunderbolt.
I bought an apollo x 4, win pc i7 gen 9th 64gb ram, m2 hdd, thunderbolt ex3 card and a win 10 pro with cubase 10.5.......and my system doesn't work....just for few minutes or hours....i trie to work with...and after a "beep" sound ( no device found )
And after that helps just win 10 reinstall.
So i have tried everything, and now it was enough.
I 'm sellig my apollo x 4 and buy an apogee desktop.....
Never buy uad if you have a pc!!!!!
It will be never compatible!
My Twin USB just died after only having it for only 8 years. They are not long-term investments. The unit constantly glitched and the onboard processing power for their plugins was pathetic. It could barely handle 1 plugin without crashing the session. I'd constantly have to turn the computer on/off to get it to sync. Worked great when it worked, which was rarely. Stay away. Switching to Antelope. Warren Huart says the Go Z and Go Q are excellent which means they are.
do u have any feedback on the usb 3 version ?
Haven’t tried it but the feedback issue was in regards to the audio codec in windows. Not sure if they’ve fixed it or if the asio workaround works better now, but I doubt it.
Nice review thanks
The interface is fine… the problem has nothing to do with those drivers. The clock in thunderbolt is tied to the CPU clock… Your CPU is varying voltage so the clock on the interface is fluctuating. That’s the problem with the Apollo on Windows on a PC.
I’ve gotten my Apollo to work on my hackintosh / windows pc.
could anyone help me set mine up?
And with UAD still not supporting the apple M1 platform, I'm stuck with an old MacBook.
I have the usb Apollo twin. And it’s the same windows problems. It’s being sent back right now and I ordered the iD44.
So you know the usb twin sounds great once you get it working on console side. But the daw side does not play back with the same depth. And other issues made me send it back like full crashes. And messing with my windows
UAD fixed in a subsequent update. No issues here with an arrow on Windows 10
Thanks for your video. I am looking for an audio device for my Dell PC which has an i7 and 8 gb ram. if i go with the focusrite, will it have latency problems if I record electric guitar directly?
i have a Focusrite 6i6 on Dell systems record guitar DI. You can easily get to sub 6ms latency on a decent spec system. #iwork4dell
Many thanks.
Hello friend, one question, Apollo vs new Apogee symphony Desktop, what do you think have most quality sound converter D/A?
ELECTED MUSIC my guess is the symphony, they are very well known for their high quality pre-amps. I have one on pre-order so I’ll do a video once I get it.
@@FilmIn5D Hello, could I ask you a question? I have apogee quartet on my Windows 10 pc. And my. The problem is that every time I restart the pc, the volume of my card and that of Windows change to a different%. If I have the windows volume at 28%, and my card at 39%, they are not changed. But I would like to give more volume to Windows or to my card, without the volumes changing every time I turn on the pc. Would you know if I left what I can do in Windows so that the volume does not change by itself?
ELECTED MUSIC not sure I fully comprehend your issue, but in general I leave my Windows volume at 80-100% and just control the volume with the physical knob
I’ve managed to make the Apollo solo usb work on windows 10 without ASIO in OBS and my DAW
Unfortunately I get random pops and clicks in my audio which is driving me crazy🤯
Did you ever find a solution to your problem? I have the same issue... @reflectonrecords
I bought a 1200 Apollo twin usb & i have had problems the entire time I've owned it. Here i am 2 years later & now it's barely even working. I use my desktop for everything.
Hey I have a question..I have a Razer Blade 15 2018 ..will the Apollo work..it’s windows
Last month purchased an Apollo Solo-usb for my PC/Windows system and found it excellent in every way. Only thing is it was short on capacity to support more than one or two plug-ins. So dealer kindly accepted it back and I upgraded to a TwinX Quad-Thunderbolt3. Total hot mess as far as working with my PC. At this point given my super experience with the Solo-usb, I have to think Thunderbolt3 has something to do with the conflict on a PC. In any case this TwinX-thunderbolt3 has to go back; way to many issues and problems.
Yea I’ve been avoiding thunderbolt 3 devices for the past year even though my computer “supports” them. Must wait for thunderbolt 4 to become more of a thing. Regardless it isn’t really needed for an audio interface
@@FilmIn5D I had seen in the forums and on UA-cam all the cautions and warnings specifically directed to Thunderbolt3/windowsPC/Apollo but foolishly went ahead anyway. Always learning ... the hard way. 😥 😥
Thanks for the great video; super informative.
My pc doesn’t recognize the interface y’all know why ? Im kinda stressing
yup. the apollo is great on mac, DOA on windows. UAD support for it is non existent, don't buy it for windows. Its a rabbit hole of "possible solutions" that is a toss up
if you need support for gear that has shit customer service? just purchase all your gear on sweetwater, they have their own customer care team that can help you with any gear purchased on their website.

I have a thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter to my B550 Vision D mother board and still giving problems. I think i going to sell it tomorrow. lol
How about audient interface?
It's not the United Audio product. It's Windows folks.
I guess you would have to want to use the Appllo for other applications. For my DAW Cubase it works perfectly and I only use it for that reason along with great near zero latency . I don't know why anyone would want to use WDM with the Apollo but I can see why he is frustrated
Richard. I’m getting the same digital distortion he demonstrated using Cubase with windows 10. Can you share any tips? I know this can work.
