      Since your motherboard doesn't seem to have any usb-c tb3 or tb4 I'd suggest you look up a pci-e thunderbolt 3 (or 4, but not necessary) card, There are lots to chose from, depending on your budget and amount needed. But you shall definetely go for 40 GB bandwidth (even though UA support told me USB 3.2 2X2 SHOULD work, I wouldn't rely on that though!!)
      Search for a Thunderbolt 3 PCI-e card

      @@BFHPET I'm not an Universal Audio employee so can't say for sure, but I don't think they will. At least USB4 won't make ANY difference whatsover, as it's literally the same protocol as TB3 (which is not = to usb-c 3/3.1, these are different). TB3 is 40gb/s, USB-C(4) is 40gb/s, USB-C(3, 3.1, 3.1 gen 2) is 10gb/s, USB-C(3.1 gen 2x2) is 20gb/s. Can I record with the fender first then apply on the track a chamber after tracking the fender (don t know it there is a lost in quality in reprinting something …? There is always a solution. check on the web if your motherboard is compatible with a thunderbolt port. If your computer is not too old it will be compatible. Another thing : do not by an apollo if you don't record real instruments or voices, otherwise it is near pointless (apart from if you want to save a tiny bite of CPU). Other advice : absolutly by an apollo if you record instrument or voice ;)

I've tried to connect my Apollo x4 (thunderbolt protocol) to a Windows PC which didn't have thunderbolt but a usb-c gen 2x2 port (which is 20 Gb/s compared to regulard usb-c' 10 Gb/s), as Apollo's don't use over 20 Gb/s of bandwith. I've been fighting this dumb thing for a week! I've watched way too many videos instructing me to install a program made by a dead guy and cracked by his brother (I can't install this kind of nonsense on my work computer). I finally saw this video and checked out Voicemeeter--it looked legit, and I took the plunge and... it still didn't work. In fact "ASIO: Universal Audio Thunderbolt" wasn't even an option in my Hardware Out selection. I watched your video several more times. I couldn't ask for a better walkthrough; you even have the same kind of computer that I am running, a Dell 9710. What was I missing?! I eventually realized that I was trying to run Voicemeeter Potato, not Voicemeeter Potato x64. I got that straight, and now it works the way it should have worked from the jump (the way it just works on my Mac, but with way more steps). Thanks for your video, @Vasilisk!
    Long story short, Apple isn't perfect, but this kind of crap really makes me resent having to work on a Windows machine.

      I totally agree with you my dude. And regarding the software that was writte by a programmer who unfortunately passed away - I tried it, but wouldn't ever use for professional work where you need reliability as the software will never ever see any updates nor is maintained.
      P.S. Got bitten in the butt by not using the x64 version of Voicemeeter myself too lol. There are always two versions installed automatically and, for some reason, the "Voicemeeter.exe" is a 32-bit application and you need to explicitely run the x64 executable...

      @@andynonimuss6298 I believe their hardware department is doing a great job and the software teams that work on their plugins. However, the team working on the corresponding drivers is slacking big time, especially when it comes to QA on different systems. They need to tweak their shit for a whole set of different PC motherboards, that's why you can't guarantee it will work well out of the box. But it's not something the customer has to worry about - it's UA's job. And if they can't provide support to everything (which is kind of understandable), they should make a list of 100%, FULLY SUPPORTED hardware (list of PC/Mac laptops and motherboards/chipsets). I think they shall have enough cash to make this possible and this should be the norm for their QA engineers

      @@johnny_blz it could be caused by UA’s software architecture decisions and they would need to rewrite a large part of the codebase. I can’t find any other reason for them not providing proper windows support. Anyways, the point is clearly they don’t care about windows users much

    Hi, I bought a Apollo Twin X yesterday. My dealer told me I can't use it on a Mac that installed windows. Is that true? Or is there any solutions? Please I really need it to work on my Mac. I usually use MacOS. But this time some streaming app can only work a windows. So I have to use it in that situation.Oh I already downloaded a thunderbolt driver from Intel. Now my windows can recognize my thunderbolt 3

    • @vasiliskofficial
      @vasiliskofficial  2 роки тому

      Hey buddy, are you talking about an intel-based mac and running Boot Camp windows? Or m1 mac running an arm version of windows in a virtual machine? I’m pretty sure it works in the first scenario, however, I wouldn’t bet my money on the second approach functioning at all (I could test the 2nd scenario if there is enough demand for knowing the result, it would probably take me a few hours)

    • @vasiliskofficial

      If your system does recognise the TB3 inputs, I see no reason for Apollo not working as long as it’s on a x86 platform (Intel)

    this video stressed me so much lol - just want to say that 1° i went on a computer store to ask the guy if my pc was compatible with thunderbolt, he said that my motherboard was fine and he installed me the best thunderbolt card for the computer (costed me 150 €), he add some difficulties on the shop to make it works then he succeed (he did his tech thing) 2° it works flowessly on my windows 10. No need to touch any setting on my computer, no problème with audio, with the card, with the daw. I think every one should go to see a teck guy (the card was 100, the installation 30€ rest was vat). Good luck to everyone

      It’s an easy and straightforward solution for you but it doesn’t apply to pretty much every windows LAPTOP user.

      And having to search for a video online or go to a “tech guy” in order to make a product work is a bad design from the ground up. It shall be more or less plug & play just like on a mac without having to tinker like crazy. And, again, glad you found an “easy” solution for your specific scenario, but there are many other factors other than the PCIe TB3/4 controller that many of windows users are dealing with when talking about Apollo’s

      @@vasiliskofficial i think the problem is not the Apollo is using thunderbolt on windows. If the motherboard accept it your are fine if not you’re fucked. And if the motherboard accept it, sometime there is some hardcore twiking because of windows. @@vasiliskofficial it works but you need a Mac. Just bought an M1 just for this and anyway I'm used to Logic so I prefer staying on Mac for my DAW. This way you can replace the use of a mixer when trying to have the same pair of headphones and monitors for multiple computers. I use a Creative sound card that has toslink input and output and I daisychain all my computers together with toslink. On each computer you go in input > toslink out > properties and check the box listen to to this device. The last computer gets plugged in in the toslink input of the apollo twin x and voila. To get the screen I use the free version of Parsec and I can work in Logic without issues. I use elgato cam link USB (not the best but mac doesn't have PCIe). I use NDI screen capture on the mac to create a mic/camera over the network from the apollo and my dslr. Then install on every computer NDI Webcam (all those ndi apps are available from ndi tools). Then I have the same mic/cam/headphones/monitors for all my computers. Basically the Twin X isn't compatible on Windows so you use a Mac but send the mic through NDI and get the audio from toslink.

      You do need to either use the voicemeter, the WDM driver is always crackling - got to pass through the ASIO device. There is also another method but I don't think it's worth noticing as the software is no longer maintained and the developer has sadly passed away
