      @@K_yeucongnghe as a tech repair worker, I have to disagree with you to some extent, in that many flagship Chinese and Western android phones are very interesting and intricate inside, and how many creative approaches they take for internal component organization.

    It's great to see that Sony still manages to make a phone that's pretty much modular compared to others who solder all the components and call it a day.

      Pues por lo que se ve tiene una construcción estándar y a la par con otros gama alta.
      Lo único modular a destacar es el conector de audífonos y el USB C que viene en un flex.

      Sadly this doesn't apply to the Xperia 5 series since the 5ii. You are lucky that the Xperia 1ii doesn't have a defective screen by design.
      5iii and 5iv have the same issue and most of them are going to have a dying screen after 2 years.
      As Samsung don't want to fix their defective screens, sony may even discontinue the 5 series due to their extremely low second-hand value (where Samsung continue to sell their factory defective 5ii/5iii/5iv screens at crazy inflated prices, which is the main cause that the second-hand value of 5 series phones completely crashed. A replacement screen literally cost higher than a fully functional second-hand Xperia 5ii).

      3D graphite (layers of graphite) comes close to basic vapor chambers, but depending on how extensive a vapor chamber is, it will perform better than just graphite.

      A Xperia 5 series owner here, 5 II to be specific.
      I have got 2 green and 1 pink lines for my phone so far, and Sony in my city (Hong Kong) is taking zero responsibility for such a serious matter. I will not buy any more Sony phones despite their insistence on keeping the headphone jack and the SD card slot. I have brought 5 Sony phones (7 if Sony Ericson phones are included). I have to give up after all these years.
      I tried to deal with Sony HK with no avail. When the first line, a green one appeared on my phone, the Xperia repair in HK was recently (from 10 July 2023) subcontracted (again) to Telecom Service One (TSO). I did made a few phone calls to Sony before going to the repair centre. The Sony (definitely not TSO) representative on phone was extremely unfriendly and sound annoyed. I guessed he had to deal with numerous such requests which Sony told him to say “no” to every single one of them. He said that such issue has to physically checked by a repairman before a free repair could be granted.
      I went to the TSO repair centre, and representative there said I should find Sony for this matter first.
      No one was taking responsibility… The customer experience should have been better for such an expensive product from such a premium brand.
      TSO (and Sony) were trash. Xperia repair in HK was subcontracted to TSO from 1 February 2016 to sometime (probably in April) 2021. Sony took the repair work back for a while until it was given back to TSO in 10 July 2023. During the first TSO contract, I send my XZs for repair. I notice screen detachment in the lower right corner soon after I got back my phone. I went back to the repair centre and the TSO representative said my phone was bent, and I had to pay for the repair. The phone was straight for a better part of a year (warranty period). How come I would bend it in a matter of days. The TSO repairman definitely bent my phone in the repair process. I did argue on phone with Sony representatives on phone a few times and I got free repair for that.
      I mean, Sony could have done the right things with the 5 series, but they are not doing it. My story with my 5 II could been different if Sony was doing repairs on their own. I have heard stories from Taiwan that free repairs were granted the 5 series.
      Also, there are currently no fewer than 3 Sony stores in the city. Sony could have done repairs on their own. Hong Kong is not a remote place that repairs must be subcontracted to a third party like TSO and uBreakiFix. It’s an extremely densely populated business hub.

      @user-nd4ip1xv5m Thanks for your info., I intent to buy Sony phone because it still keeps phone jack that I like, but will not now. I live in h.k. too, I disappointed with it some times ago when I bought its headphones wh-1000mx3, I was terrified how it's poor in sound quality, I sold it out and bought a second hand Shure one, a Germany band, which is so good in sound quality

    What a pain in the ass to disassemble this. Kinda makes me remember Z5 - almost the same idea for the Screen - you need to remove glass backplate and everything behind it just to replace the screen. XZ1 series are much better in this regard - need to replace screen? Then just remove screen.
    About shielding on the key components (Chips), do you think it is possible to gain any thermal gains (make phone's thermals cooler) similar to CPU de-liding? Thanks

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 місяці тому

      You might get some better performance replacing the thermal paste with better ones or possibly replacing the 3D graphite with a copper vapor chamber that would fit in that cut out and not be too thick to press against the screen and frame.

    • @sempiro3133
      @sempiro3133 2 місяці тому

      @@PBKreviewsThank you for the reply and awesome video.
      Was it hard to remove the shields on Sony? Have you used heat gun, or it was just graphite on top, like with Samsung devices?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 місяці тому

      it has removable shield covers which clip into place and can be pulled off. You can use your nail or a small tool to lift up from one edge to pull it off but be careful not to damage components nearby with a tool.
