There are people who went their entire lives not hearing this, perhaps even not knowing Bach even existed; and yet I can sit there now in 2022, eating a Wampaburger in my night robes, and watching in high-definition. It's incredible and I'm so grateful to be alive in this moment in time to have such luxury.
Yes, we live in a true, intersectional period in history. I am sitting at my computer desk, using UA-cam. My beautiful mini black panther cat is lying on the bed, sleeping. My wife is next door, listening to the awful happenings in Israel. Both she and I experience our awareness with high tech devices: audio plus video. Next to me is my cell phone. If I could tell somebody from Bach's time that with this little device, I have access to all knowledge amassed by humanity; I could get in contact with any one of a billion people if I had their call number, that person would quickly rush back to his era, totally flabbergasted. We do live in an exceptional, privileged era.
What a treasure are these recordings of WT 2! Christine Schornsheim plays the lines with a lucidity and in a tempo and rhythm as if you were listening to the pulse of life itself. Thank you.
I loved everything. It is incredible to see how through dead figures we can appreciate and care for life; In the same way, a museum instrument, with a dead repertoire, can lead us to feel the immensity of life and the human struggle to reach eternity. Bravo!!! Once again, I loved everything!
Love the ornamentations on repeats in the Prelude. So nimble and relaxed, she makes it seem easy (ha!). The fugue is noble. Such joy to listen to. Thank you.
my god, what a brilliant performance of this masterpiece. i can't believe it lasts less than 6 minutes, I feel like I learned so much from this. truly insightful and original, thank you!
Winderful it brings back so many memories you can't imagine yourself a virtuoso yet I'm really very happy to receive this magnificent piece and I especially like Jean-Sébastien Bach as someone very famous who plays it almost every day!!! absolutely everyone knows him
If You wonder about the location, All-of-Bach is taking the opportunity to celebrate Utrecht 900 years! "We recorded his first book of Preludes and Fugues at the homes of 24 different musicians. For this second part, performed in its entirety by Christine Schornsheim, we chose 12 very different locations in Utrecht, to celebrate the 900th anniversary of our home city."
Amazing! Listening to the fugue made me feel like I was being transported to another realm, up into space. If anyone could ever make me religious again, it would be Bach.
Yes it is, as was common in the 18th C. Mine is tuned down a whole step, as was common in 17th C France. We love the way it messes with your "perfect" pitch. Deal with it.

Thank you, now I know I’m not the only one. The acoustics are beautiful, in contrast, the surroundings are cold, clinical and macabre. A total contrast and clash to the timeless music and elegant performance by a veteran musician. But whatever - NBS is probably going for some avant-garde post-modern aesthetic for choosing such a strange location for this recording.
To celebrate the 900th anniversary of our home city of Utrecht, we chose 12 special Utrecht locations for our recordings of Das Wohltemperirte Clavier.
It seems like a university and this is the room where anatomy is taught by dissection. So not really a morgue, they don't store the bodies, they just disassemble them.
We recorded Bach’s second book of the 'Wohltemperirte Clavier' at 12 very different locations in Utrecht, to celebrate the 900th anniversary of our home city. One of them was an old cutting room of the university. Hence the images.
Nothing like the faded odour of formaldehyde to stimulate the artistic senses, I guess... Very fine interpretation nonetheless, congrats. The acoustics are great.
0:07 Prelude
3:19 Fugue

The concentration on her face says it all she is dedicated to making a work of art, from a work of art.
The analytical intricacy of the music perfectly matches the location. This video is both a musical and visual pleasure.
Thanks, this is exactly why we chose to perform this piece here

She plays so wonderful - the prelude with her additions, verzierungen, comes alive.
Absolutely wonderful played very beautiful sound🍃thank you NBS
The perfection of simplicity and at the same time the richness of polyphony in the usual Bach manner and of course, an extraordinary performance 🎵😌🎶
I played this piece,when I was 8 years old.I like it very much.Bravo!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Oh, I got to know it when I was about 28. ;-)
Yes it’s one of the most playable of the 48 - the one one which follows is one one of the most beautiful, once you get past the key signature
You played the fugue at the age of 8 ? Such a young age for understanding Bach...
my god, what a brilliant performance of this masterpiece. i can't believe it lasts less than 6 minutes, I feel like I learned so much from this. truly insightful and original, thank you!
Una gran interpretación. Buenas ornamentaciones. Gracias
Madam, This is one of the finest performances yet. Excellent film location as well.
What marvelous elegance and precision, both in the piece itself and in the harpsichordist's performance.
I've been asking for Prelude and Fugue in C major BWV 531 for years , please upload it , really one of the earliest Bach organ works very charming
Delightful. I can see the colors and shapes...
Thank you! I am glad I recently purchased the WTC II book. The fossil makes this recording so much better! 👍

This was a surreal location choice. Very interesting.
So are they doing 2 works at every location? Or are they doing 12 works in Utrecht and 12 somewhere else?
@@haisheauspforte1632 I don't know ... but my guess would be 2 works at each location, as you suggest.
Yes :)
Amazing! Listening to the fugue made me feel like I was being transported to another realm, up into space. If anyone could ever make me religious again, it would be Bach.
What a good thing to wake up to !:) thank tou NBS !
Superb! It was like listening to it for the first time.
That' a very nice sounding harpsichord
Such subtle deftness and crisp articulation!
Magnificent ❤❤❤
Beautifully realized. Nice harpsichord.
Danke für diese Interpretation.Unaufgeregt und positiv
Can we have different persons for each piece in WTC 2 just like WTC 1? It’s so much more interesting with different people!
No, they have already been recorded by Christine Schornsheim. She is a magnificent harpsichord player
Is it natural for harpsichords to be tuned down a half step? This is sounding as if it were in B minor.
Yes it is, as was common in the 18th C. Mine is tuned down a whole step, as was common in 17th C France. We love the way it messes with your "perfect" pitch. Deal with it.
@@jmccarty3 it was just a question, no need for the rudeness.
very interesting filming location !
Indeed! The dissecting room....yikes!

So beautiful!
Lo suono sempre, è bellissimo
Performance is outstanding! Setting made me uncomfortable. The cow head was what did it

I completely agree.... it doesn't matter how important that location is! The sectioned head cow... could be avoided!
At least there were no draped (or un-) human shapes lying about.
Next prelude and fugue from Utrecht's central mortuary? :-|
Beautiful
Wow!
why did you put her in a morgue to play
To celebrate the 900th anniversary of our home city of Utrecht, we chose 12 special Utrecht locations for our recordings of Das Wohltemperirte Clavier.
@@bach wait I was joking is this actually a morgue

GOD bless NBS in the name of Jesus! Wonderful!😁
Excellent!
Gratidão 🌸💐🌹🌺🌻🌼🌷⚘
More Schornsheim!
Sure! She will play the entire second book of the Well-Tempered Clavier
@@bach,
wow! dat klinkt als een belofte.
Is the tastelessness of playing surrounded by dissecting tables part of NBS's philosophy and John Podesta's private art collection going to be next ?
❤👍🌎
sehr hohes Niveau !!
😍😍😍😍✨✨✨
A mortuary, for the best sound. If only I could hear it!
:)
1:46 - WTF? What is the point of juxtaposing this beautiful music with those macabre, sliced cow heads?

What a strange room to play the harpsichord ... all the dissected animals hanging about.
She went a little overindulgent with the ornamentation.
The dissection tables and cow cadavers are in bad taste.
Bach spins in his grave as a dynamo!
