To my shrunken brain, this particular harpsichord sounds not like any other harpsichord, but exceptionally clear and tender, especially noticeable in melody notes of slow movements. Some kind of planetary alignment, I suppose, combination of skills; thanks to composer, instrument maker, performer, recording engineer. _--Waving from Istanbul._
This Mietke is a special sort of in-between harpsichord. I heard Jean Rondeau perform on one. It was strung in brass and I was only twelve feet away from it. It was really nice like this one sounds. Pierre Hantaï is awesome of course.
This instrument may have originally been owned by Gustav Leonhardt. Hantai was a sometime pupil of Leonhardt, and a great admirer of the late maestro, and I read somewhere that both Hantai and Skip Sempe, also a pupil of Leonhardt, both purchased harpsichords from Leonhardt’s estate. You have it exactly right in what you say about its ’timbre’; its is a magnificent instrument!
Tout est parfait dans cette vidéo : le claveciniste, le clavecin, la musique, l’acoustique et la captation ! Bravo Pierre et merci à la NBS pour ce cadeau…
I was having a stressful day with some issues that came up.. I hit play on the video and my mind went into beauty mode and I have more clarity and peace now. Thank you.
It really makes a difference what harpsicord it is played on, some sound tinny, not this one. Also helps to have a good sound system and not just listen to it on your phone or cheap computer speakers
This particular French Suite has become a recent favorite of mine, and I just learned it for fun ^.^ something about Bach + C minor really does something for me ❤
Great playing, but now seriously: can we talk about the score cover first glimpsed at 0:34? It looks like Bosch's garden of earthly delights! Sign of a real pro right there
I've always loved Bach, but your comment is insightful. A family member of mine hates the harpsichord because they say "It's sounds too snooty." I guess there is some truth to the fact that chamber music was usually only played for the wealthy. However, it seems so obvious to me that Bach's music goes beyond culture. This could be an interesting discussion.
[ENG] What an absolutely magnificent interpretation! Pierre Hantaï never disappoints and always surprises with his ability to combine a baroque interpretative spirit (with its articulations, punctuations and phrasing) with originality (which includes well thought-out ornamentation). This results in musical discourses that are always new. The dialogues between the right and left hands are limpid and very well articulated. The short pause in the Allemande (00:15) lets us know that the movement is to be appreciated and enjoyed with the necessary calm, breathing slowly. The Sarabande is poignantly beautiful... ======= [PT-pt] Que interpretação absolutamente magnífica! According to Eric P. Dollard ( Electrical Engineer and author ) Bach's musical language is identical to that of Electrical Engineering ( Math / Geometry / Ratios ) . And here also in this recording are all manner of emotive micro retardandos ❤ .
I'm not sure I'm a fan of his particular rhythm in the Allemande. Seems a bit stylistic and not as written. Strange because I'm usually a fan of Hantai
Coming back to this work years later… Bach did not understand the French style! The only French things in this work are the names of the movements. No inégale anywhere! 😹
0:05 Allemande
3:34 Courante
5:34 Sarabande
9:16 Air
10:45 Menuet
12:20 Gigue
The works of Bach will never cease to rejuvenate my soul.
Could not agree more. His works are just so beautiful I feel it must come from a higher source that inspired him. There is nothing quite like it.
Bach... clavecin... HantaÏ... What more could we ask for today to be great?

Couldn’t agree more - a complete experience. Lifts me out of a hot Mumbai morning, into a different world.

I agree, I like to play this to decorate my humble place in Alexandria. Bach is global!
There are so many superb harpsichord players at present, but when I listen to Hantai I forget who they are.
There isn’t one bad Bach piece, and this is a gem.
Excellent playing and good room sound. It’s a keeper!
I actually think there is 1. It is an italian small cantata. I don't remember the name.

@@lordchameleon2650 🤣🤣🤣
@@gianlucabersanetti3560 ah yes. Although the sinfonia is great, whole thing is kinda off😅
Yes, choral and flute pieces aren’t for everyone.
Just expressing my opinion. 😉

Such beautiful playing with each note intentionally placed.
This harpsicord sounds heavenly

Beautiful interpretation. With fresh thoughtful ornamentation
Thank you as ever, Mr Hantai
Heart-wrenchingly beautiful. Love, love, love his playing! ❤🔥
This particular French Suite has become a recent favorite of mine, and I just learned it for fun ^.^ something about Bach + C minor really does something for me ❤
The Bach always wonderful.Gorgeous performance.Thank you very much Bach Society❤
The harpsichord master is back with Bach
Great playing, but now seriously: can we talk about the score cover first glimpsed at 0:34? It looks like Bosch's garden of earthly delights! Sign of a real pro right there
Thank you for another great performance!
Beautiful interpretation with good rubato. Thanks a lot!
Фантастически красивая и притягательная музыка. Её исполняют многие выдающиеся пианисты, и на рояле сюита звучит тоже великолепно. Спасибо, NBS!
Summit of intelligence and sophistication 🥲
Merci Pierre Hantaï

Leonhardt in our times ...
Yes! Can you do please Bach - French Suite #3, BWV 814.
We already published that :): ua-cam.com/video/jN-_H4I5gDM/v-deo.html

By the way, a really beautyful cembalo. (Harpsychord?)
BEEEELLLOOOOOO
❤
I assume this is the definitive version. Right?
i imagine bach would had to have a piano, but it wasn't supported by evidence.

Not perhaps the most beautiful sounding instrument, but nicely played nevertheless.
Coming back to this work years later… Bach did not understand the French style! The only French things in this work are the names of the movements. No inégale anywhere! 😹
Hentai?
Playing a dance rubatto is absurd.
It's a "dance". No one was actually dancing to it.
soulless interpretation.
Can you say why please? Just honestly curious. Thanks!
