In this video we discuss some of the similarities and differences between two different tube preamps. These are totally different categories of preamps so we are not looking to find out which is better, rather we are looking to find out how well the Freya measures up to a juggernaut Primaluna preamp. One has point to point wiring one has a giant pcb.
One will last a lifetime the other has a fake 5 year warranty that only applies to original purchase because you are going to need that warranty. But for the price it just might not matter how long it lasts.
I bought it but decided as old as I am lifetime no longer has meaning but if I were a young man I would choose products that last a lifetime cost more perhaps buy it used or open box or something.

The Freya+ is a upgrade from the original Freya and was designed to be extremely neutral and the stock tubes where chosen to maintain that neutrality, so that would probably be a better comparison.
I originally was getting the + but I didn’t want to wait 4 months to get it and I got a pretty good deal on the Freya with upgraded tubes then I was able to get a killer deal on the Primaluna so I got that instead. I’m still curious how the + sounds. I’d like to check it out. Thanks for watching and commenting
Do you have the pre amps connected to a power amp or integrated amp? Would I be able to connect either one to a integrated amp or would it be an upgrade to have a power amp?
Yes I have them connected to an external amplifier. You could connect them to an integrated amp but you might run into some cancellations problems from the integrated’s preamp section. But if not, it should work. I would recommend a separate external amp. Thanks for asking and watching
I have a Freya plus . What is the name of the larger tubes you use? use it in my home theater system and really like the impact tubes make to the home theater sound Plus it can be switch back-and-forth between tubes and solid state which is something unheard of for virtually all other tube preamps. During the day solid-state and at night i switch it over to tubes.
I like other tube preamps but don't like Burning 6 or 8 tubes when it's integrated into home theater all the time very wasteful
I hear ya man. I like my Primaluna but prefer to use my Freya. Those tubes are PSvane 6sn7 tubes.
So are u saying primaluna sounds better with RCA vs freya with XLR?
As far as voicing and soundstage, yes. It was more revealing and neutral but it didn’t have as much bass extension as the Freya. The Freya had more punch. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@Audiolympian I wonder if bass can be exentuated in the primaluna by different tubes, matching the freya's bass extension
@@niravp426 I have read about changing the tubes for different sound but it only referred to either warmer or cooler sound. Didn’t mention bass but it could be a possibility to improve it. I should call Primaluna and ask. Thanks for commenting and watching.
Which Bob Carver did you buy?
I have the crimson 275. It sound so smooth, revealing and plenty of power
Yes the Carver ss amps do sound very close to tubes but when I hooked up both my cinema grand and my Carver to the Primaluna preamp, the was a noticeable difference between them in sound. But both are great amps

Oh yeah. It has more body, punch and detail.
@@Audiolympian but the carver is your power amp but the primaluna was your preamp right? I want to integrate tubes into my new system but I'm unsure how. Having ss at the moment. Do you know if I can switch the primaluna fully integrated into preamp mode or only poweramp mode?
