I love how the leader is totally unconcerned that a few of his guys just got blasted, and he's still trying to make demands. Total psychopath.
Because he was obsessed with the guy's arm. He wanted to know how he got it and him finding out right there that he could use the alien weaponry made him even happier.

I remember seeing in the theater. Went in with ZERO expectations and was absolutely blown away. Totally underrated sci fi action/drama/horror at its best.

The term underrated seems to be wildly overrated and overused on YT these days. There is nothing underrated about District 9. It’s a great movie that received wide acclaim and big box office success at the time of its release. Not the definition of underrated.

Ingenious Alien Weaponry Production Design on D9 2:00 In case you missed it, this one is actually a non lethal weapon as the guys who were blasted with it are all in later scenes of the film. So cool how the prawns have a variety of weapons with different functions.
The level of detail that Blomkamp put in his productions is incredible

A weapon that throws people through walls is not non-lethal. It just happened not to kill any of these guys.

You throw a person into the air and across any distance the chance of fatal injury increases a lot more than if you were just tazing them or spraying them with knockout gas
This scene is one of the greatest. Here you have vikus who's just a nice guy trying to buy some weapons. He's once again being sh*t on by everyone around him. He shows that he has money and is looking to make an honest deal for which the money is instantly gone from hand forever. The way he instantly takes control of the situation once push comes to shove with the help of that crazy alien weapon he picks up is second to none.
"YOU TELL THEM TO STAND DOWN!!!!" sends chills down my spine every time. My favorite sci fi movie of all time and it had been out for 9 years before I'd even heard about it. Sharlto Copley is one of my all time favourite actors because of this movie.
Christopher Johnson should have bought the weapons. The gangsters would not have known anything was up

@@flisko123 What do you mean fake? Or you just trolling? Anyway it's true. Shalto Kopley had no acting experience before District 9. Him and Neil Bloomkamp had been friends for a long time and he mostly behind the scenes in movies and tv shows, if I remember well.

The movie started off as just another found footage crap and then quickly ascended to an unforgettable drama. Love it!

It's you tell them to stand down. Its a military phrase meaning they stop aiming at him an aim their weapons at the ground. He never once said " you tell them to stand up!"
