Steve has nothing more left to prove! He has done it all wore the T-shirt, His guitar hero/rock star days are well behind him, nowadays he is just happy enough to be a humble musician!
His face almost always reflect what he play..So great.I remember I read about doing that in "Guitarplayer" in the 90s,and he has done it ever since.Very entertaining.
I was also talking about Malmsteem. I think he's doing just fine with his fans and I think he continues to play what he enjoys and feels good playing. I can't ask any more of a musician.
The chords sound beautifully, Steve should make a song/composition from this! Not only demo, may be it is, and I don't know? BTW: what they are? In what mode?
would love to know what chorus pedal or rack mount he is using.... this is my dream clean/chorus sound, combined with that reverb. i got the guitar. just wan to know his effects setup....
Mr.V you are awesome ! I didn't think you would care for this sort of thing so I'm a little supprised. I'm talkin about the progression not the melody. 3:20 to 3:34 it bring up things in my mind like the song TIME Can I draw your attention to "The jets - all over him" ? I'm still confused as to why you don't do buckethead type licks , is that a taboo in your universe ? I can tell you it sure sucks not to be able to ask face to face.
@Guitareben You win the award for most inappropriate use of the apostrophe that I've seen in any youtube comment-and that's not an easy one to win! Congrats!
Does anybody know? Can you use the Evolution HB bridge pick up with the Fernandez single coil sustainer system? Or do you have to use the HB pickup that comes with it in the bridge?
Because it's been shown that set necks have the worst sustain out of the three types of commonly used neck joints. Also, Steve would probably break a set neck.
He always puts some duck-tape on his neck humbucker (High E string side) to avoid the string from getting under the pickup bobbins when he dives with his tremolo. All of his guitars have that and he write KONX on the tape of some of them, remembering the sound that the high E string makes if it gets under the pickup and he tries to return to pitch..."KONX"
~Thanks for the video! I was not aware that the "GEM" guitar had a sustainer pickup on it! (thought it had PAF Pro's)~ Someone should invent a sustainer pedal, that uses your current humbucker, on any guitar, that works the same way as the Fernandez sustainer pickup! instead of electronics being in the guitar, have everything work through a pedal! that way a person does not have to make internal changes, to their current guitar.
Everyone repeats themselves. People find their niche and they stick to it. They stick to it because they have a connection to it and it appeals to them. Clearly we have a different outlook on what the role of a musician is and what a musician's inherent goals should be, so I don't think we're going to agree. I'm not a fan of Malmsteem's at all, but I recognize he has a connection to his music and he sticks to his niche for more reasons than just to hang on to those last few fans he has.
when a guitarist gets to this level it is all then just a question of taste, likes and dislikes.. do i like steve's music generally? no probably not.. the style of it just doesn't do anything for me.. do i appreciate how hard it is to play as well as this cat can do.. sure i do.. i've played for years and i would only hope to be able to play like this- realising the irony that i have already said that i don't generally like his music! :)
He seems to be managing his fans perfectly fine. He does what he enjoys and plays how he connects to his music. I don't know what else one could expect from a musician. It's not going to appeal to everybody, as no music does, but that's not the point of being a musician and I'd have to say it's exactly the opposite of being a musician. So...his "lack of diversity" isn't that relevant.
@suncreation66 steve vai is not at all overrated, he uses the whammy bar alot because thats his style, and one of his biggest influences was eddie van halen, u cant overuse the whammy bar, its there to be used......and he isnt a rock guitarist, hes a guitar virtuoso, so he uses the digital effects to add dimention to his music, and despite all the effects and stuff he uses hes a VERY skilled player, and he puts alot of emotion and feeling in his playing.
@csg0dlike Well I have and have had plenty of stuff, and can get more than decent sustain, but the attack of the sustainer and the Ebow is something you sadly can't quite emulate, to my knowledge. And I don't want to learn to use an Ebow. But if you have any tip for a sustainer alternative, feel free to tell mme and the world about it, I'll be thrilled.
Hes playing Im Beginning or something like that frome Sound Theories i think. And does anyone know the difference between FLO and EVO? I mean i know FLO has the Fernandes sustainer and EVO doesnt. and i know their hardware is different but other than that they are the same guitar pretty much right? are there any major differences im missing?
urm when did i once say malmsteen shouldnt play all those notes? i didnt even mention malmsteen once, and the point i was getting across is, u cant nock a guitarist because he has his own style, imagine if u were famous and u did somthing in ur style that not manny other guitarists did and u got critisised for it? exactly.
@mindstormsabrewin well you see, people who have lives, such as myself, don't judge our worth by how many thumbs we get on youtube...or in real life for that matter, which I assume you get quite a bit due to the fact that you're gay
He can't help the facial expressions,it's auto matic like blinking for him. Anything. absolutely anything Vai does is cool as far as I'm concerned. He Is Real. Period. His heart is open and he gives the music everything he has.. Dig it. Or BLOW.^_^.10.
Ace Frehley does it too :) well the facial expressions are normal...I do them too and I think most guitarists do them...I think it looks stupid to have a normal/boring face while you play the guitar :D it's automatic man
Ya I know that I dont care about the neck pick up so much. I just want to be able to use my Evolution BRIDGE pick up with the sustainer. Is that possible?
Maybe it is. Or maybe music appeals differently to him than most other people? Either way, I think we've both said our piece and given what we think so I think I'm finished.
@PatrickStarGuitar look on the left side the bodie you see 2 buttons i think one is a sustainer it is custom made for him though but the model is the same yes
hay cosas que son natas de cada ser humano, y eso no se consigue ni con una vida entera de practica. o a caso en una escuela de musica existe la materia "feeling" o "sentimiento"?... creo que no. saludos
I`m 64, seen most of the Axe-me.But Steve is in a class of his own, total command of his craft Frank Zappa, knew he was a good apprentice .and it nice to see him play with Dweezil .What a long strange trip its been
@RaF630 That's the guitars names. EVO is his "main" guitar, so to speak. IIRC, he installed the evolution pickups into that one. FLO is a floral guitar, that he simply painted over white. You could go over to Vais site, and read about the actual guitars. :)
@guitarzan7898 Yea you know whats even funnier to me! to see myself in the mirror while I'm playing guitar, and try to force myself to make the a cool face. lol
Steve has nothing more left to prove! He has done it all wore the T-shirt, His guitar hero/rock star days are well behind him, nowadays he is just happy enough to be a humble musician!
This is my favorite piece of music in the history of anything ever.
His face almost always reflect what he play..So great.I remember I read about doing that in "Guitarplayer" in the 90s,and he has done it ever since.Very entertaining.

that is just soo beautiful
The track that makes me want to get a Sustainer
@fernominal Boss makes sustainer pedals, some other companies might too.
Is it improvised or are there any tabs on this I can find on internet? So soft and emotional.. Love this.
This should be a instrumental song like Van Halen´s 316.. A short but neat one :)
would love to know what chorus pedal or rack mount he is using.... this is my dream clean/chorus sound, combined with that reverb.
i got the guitar. just wan to know his effects setup....
The part from about 1:0 is beautiful.
Mr.V you are awesome !

where can u buy one of those straps he has on his headstock?
@Guitareben You win the award for most inappropriate use of the apostrophe that I've seen in any youtube comment-and that's not an easy one to win! Congrats!
He has funny facial expressions :D
remind me some lenny by SRV...
steve puts tape on his pickups because when he pulls bends off the fret board they get stuck under the pickups.
@daftmou5s
Thanks for the info! I'll go to the nearest guitar store and check one out!
Does anybody know?

That guitar has the 401.
Because it's been shown that set necks have the worst sustain out of the three types of commonly used neck joints.

I want to play that.. I know there is a song with some of this piece in it but not at all like this and that song sucks too. I want this!

@starhawks1 LOLLLL, brilliant!!!
@mindstormsabrewin well you see, people who have lives, such as myself, don't judge our worth by how many thumbs we get on youtube...or in real life for that matter, which I assume you get quite a bit due to the fact that you're gay

no se trata de poder tocarlo... sino de crear algo asi

He has it on Mojo aswell my friend. Thats the chrome guitar he uses. Its featured on Bad Horsie and Building The Church among others.
@Jemuniverse7v flo doesn't have the ibanez tremsetter and it doesn't have a true temperament fretboard. Oh, and it has a jem555 neck
What is that green thing at the end of the fretboard? It looks like tape, but I can't imagine why he would have tape on his guitar.
You can use any bridge pick-up. it doesn't matter what it is. The neck pick-up, be sustainer or other, wouldn't matter.
Thanks for the video! I was not aware that the "GEM" guitar had a sustainer pickup on it! (thought it had PAF Pro's)
its not a pedal its a built in sustainer in the pick up. its called a fernandes sustainer kit 401/101
nope he also has a sustainer on his mojo guitar (the black one with the blue LED lights in the neck)
i'm becoming.
i think it was a written for the dutch orchestra performance.
its on the sound theories album!
nope, you'll be sacrificing the neck pick-up. which is why Vai switches out guitars every time he requires it.
the sustainer is inside the guitar. He use the little switches to control it.
Sounds great !!!
what tuning is he in? i really like how that tuning sounds .....it dosen't sound like its e standard.
wait steve is indorsed by ibanez but that looks like a gold floyd rose more than an edge pro? Which is it?
The real greats guitarrist are just the classical one´s. The rest doesn´t exist, they just make noice!
The sustainer fernandes... At 0:56 he was inspired in astor piazzola, an argentinian composer of tango
Have you ever listen to jazz guitarist? Or Jason Becker songs like Rain?
It's a Young Guitar DVD, I don't think you'll be able to get hold of it very easily any more.
@mattpa17603 who told u that?... looks like a regular jem7vwh to me
thanx (8, couldnt figure it out
sounds kinda like Jason Becker style with a lil Vai with all the slides...
sounds like something I would do, but it would take me a couple of hours to do it!
@MasterOfTrapos
Thanks for catching that! (your a gentleman and a scholar!)
I hate when he does that gay runway model face with his cheeks sucked in. lol.
mestre dos mestre!!
@HenRico62 this is called I'm Becoming, a song taken from the album Sound Theories vol. I
I`m 64, seen most of the Axe-me.But Steve is in a class of his own, total command of his craft Frank Zappa, knew he was a good apprentice .and it nice to see him play with Dweezil .What a long strange trip its been
Creo que en el cielo se debe escuchar esa musica....
@fox0712 nah, then he'd show it slowly and stuff :P
He would just invent them, or find another way =D
@fernominal umm... the guitar is called "JEM" not "GEM"
why does no one says the name of this song goddammed
Interesting but this is a strange video editing and seems to be from copyrighted material.
hahahahah ive notice that he does that too lol
the power of a Hernandez sustainer lol
Lol, kinda like the David Gilmour face...
i love this man but he uses too much delay
yeah he pulls faces like a fish. at times.
like frank sinatra....a bit
i think hes chewing on something sour
XD
i swear the old look exactly like floyds
very beautiful piece here steve.
@donkeymondays86 nobody will tell us :(
malmsteen is an overplaying shred-head
@RaF630 That's the guitars names. EVO is his "main" guitar, so to speak. IIRC, he installed the evolution pickups into that one. FLO is a floral guitar, that he simply painted over white. You could go over to Vais site, and read about the actual guitars. :)
song name: I'm becoming hehe finally
whats the name of this dvd?
@guitarzan7898
Yea you know whats even funnier to me! to see myself in the mirror while I'm playing guitar, and try to force myself to make the a cool face. lol
Gotta love that sustainer
LOL it's like the zoolander face
nice facials
absolute legend
or exercise?
what chorus using ?
Really this guy is one with his instrument, very special to have that connection;this is what good music is all about,it's facinating!
is that whispering a prayer?
AWSOME CHORDS! SO BEAUTIFUL............ "I have to go now my planet needs me"
{ Floats away Cheesily}
:D he loves his tremolo :-)
Vai really is one of the all time greats. Light years ahead of your average shredder.
until the battery runs out
this man is just wonderful
kinda bored
