    I have an 09. The front tires skip at low speed turns because Vettes have Ackermann steering geometry. Swap out the runflats for normal tires and you should be good. Worked for me.

      A&A kit is better fitting from what I have seen. Go to race proven motorsports channel and watch. They have done so many c6 z06s it's not even funny. They mostly use the A&A kit. And have a killer heads cam package that's been proven over and over. Makes anywhere from 600-640whp depending on intake choices naturally aspirated.

    I own an 05 /c6. And i am an older person over 60 and I really enjoy my corvette. Loud or not , it is a very comfortable machine. My wife enjoys it as well . love it for what it is, not for something else. Just F.Y.I.

    -Get the heads fixed.
    -Pick a cam and valvetrain combo you can tolerate.
    -Upgrade the OEM lifters to some Johnson's, i suggest a link bar like the 2116's.
    -Keep the mufflers, upgrade the headers and xpipe, definitely go catless unless you like your feet melting and possibly your carpet too.
    -Stock intake manifold is going to most likely make it pull vacuum at high rpm after you do a decent cam and you'll lose power up top, so i'd suggest going with an MSD. Or if you really like to party, get a Hi-ram.
    Enjoy it.

      I would ditch the butterfly valves personally. Corsa!! But that’s just me

    • @BrandonDouglasYT
      @BrandonDouglasYT 4 роки тому

      @@wesleybeeson1818 I don't say to keep them because they have butterfly valves. But because louder doesn't necessarily mean faster. And the loud shit gets old after a while if you drive a lot.
      $1200 for 10hp isn't very reasonable but if you have UA-cam money then spend it.

    Add the "mild to wild" kit. Saves pulling the exhaust fuse, and when your wife is with you, and want to chill, a simple push of the remote, and life is quite. I love it. Exhaust valves open or closed when ever you want :-)

      RPI Designs, Amazon, and other vendors sell the kit. I think it was around $100 delivered in Canada (we pay dearly in Canucksville). It ties into your fuse box under floor matt on passenger side. Easy easy function to do. You have a remote that then functions the two center selaniod operated exhaust pipes. These normally function off of throttle position. 1/2 ish throttle 1/2 open exhaust port. With mild to wild you can idle around town with minimal throttle and have all four exhaust ports fully open. Then once wanting to converse or listen to tunes remote close the two center. Quite again :-) Love mine, just wish my Boss 302 was as easy. Enjoy. Note: two ways to set up. UA-cam or search web. You want to conduct install to have no parasitic draw. ( So not to kill battery when parked after a duration of time) Don't be afraid, so easy!

    • @billmcmeekin7909
      @billmcmeekin7909 4 роки тому

      Just a heads up. I believe you need a Z06 or ZR1. Selaniod controlled center exhaust tips. Look up these tips around 10" and you'll see an actuator mounted on each, to control the butterfly valves. These came on stock exhaust mentioned on above :-)

    Nice wheels, congrats on the buy and the baby. I highly recommend keeping it as a naturally aspirated engine, the balance of the mods you spoke of will round out the car perfectly. Your chirping tires disappear in warm weather. if you really want super charged, trade up to a ZR1, the suspension with magnetic ride control will keep you out of the bushes. I started with a '66 in '72, thirteen units later, each had it's own personality, my favorite were the '13 427 and the current '17 Z51/LT2 loaded, it's a passion!

  • @TexasRiverRat31254

    Yup, that low speed "skipping" is normal. I had 265/35-18 Bridgestone RE71r non run flats on the front of a 06 C6 Z51 and it was way better but at low temps still happened. A compromise for steering that isn't too sensitive at high speeds. Good choice of cars Taylor, I bought one of the marked down C7 Grand Sports, fancy lookin interior, more electronics than I'll ever use, wish I'd held out for a special C6. Put a MGW flatstick shifter in it and have fun!

  • @TorquilMcLeod
    @TorquilMcLeod 4 роки тому +1

    Tire noise can be the tires especially if they're older. Sound deadening the interior can make a difference for the road noise. I insulated the hatch area, behind the seats, the doors on my C6, and it reduced the road noise as well as increased the sound quality of the stereo. It's not hard to do and definitely worth the time especially over the winter if it's just sitting in the garage. As a test, if you have a large blanket or car cover, put it in the back and see if the road noise reduces.

  • @Conewad

    It’s skipping around because of the SuperSport tires that are on the car - performance tires should only be driven in temperatures of 50 degrees or over - Idaho has cold winters like we do here in Chicago so I would put those winter tires back on if you plan on driving it during the colder months

    For the slow thighs turning , if it seems like the tires are skipping, it’s maybe because they are, since that the 4 wheels are very wide, it reacts kinda in a way of a 4WD, but instead of been the 4 wheels drives that make the tires skipped, it’s because of the big contact patches of the 4 tires

      Thank you for the info! When you say low boost, what exact boost level are you referring to? Less than 10psi? If I do end up with a supercharger, I'd like to keep boost at or below 10psi, which many have said is safe with the right tune and timing at peak torque. I am second guessing the supercharger after reading through the comments on this video. A fully re-sleeved short block and forged rotating assembly would definitely be ideal. What are you running now?

      Taylor Smith I was running about 7-8lbs of boost when I cracked a sleeve on cylinder 7. you need to put all season tires on it. Also the run flat tires if they are Goodyear they are terrible, I would opt for Michelin pilot sports either all seasons or non run flats and that will eliminate the tire skip. just remember when its cold the tires will do that, and also the power curve in that 427 is a beast and the LS7 is bigger then the LT 4 in the current ZO6. Merry Christmas

    RPM B3 cam and their AI heads is really proven to be the best package on these cars. (My 08 made 642 at the wheels N/A with that combo). The B3 is designed for a blower but makes great power n/a.
    A&A seems to have the best designed bracket on the market from what I can tell. Really have to keep the boost down and seriously consider meth if you’re looking to make it last. I don’t think the factory bottom ends are happy much past 800 wheel.
    Doing a clutch too, right???

    • @TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel
      @TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the input! I have considered contacting RPM as well as they have a huge presence in the C6 aftermarket and have a UA-cam channel as well. They really seem to know their stuff. I would be fine with 700+ at the tires with a blower on it. I don't need to go crazy with it right now. Who knows what the future holds, but if I ended up wanting to make huge power I would just buy a re-sleeved and forged short block instead of sending out this block for upgrades. I'm not going to do the clutch simultaneously to all this work, but I'll get to it shortly afterwards i'm sure.

Apparently the dealer that I bought my Z06 from put the wrong transmission fluid and it caused the slipping and noise of wheel while turning. A lot of the tire skipping at low speed is because the steering tire a wide, about 9 1/2 in. My 2010 grand sport does the same thing and I do not use run flat tires. Run flats should be a option not standard. They run to rough and are noisy, bad on a longer trip.

    Ls7 is over bored it has very thin cylinder walls
    And with additional cylinder pressure by super charger you are asking for trouble (cracking and distorted sleeves )
    You must first replace iron cylinder sleeve with proper one so you can run hi boosts with new and stronger sleeves.
    Just remember
    A heads and cam LS7 will perform better than a low boost LS7 with stock iron sleeves .

    Nice car! I too love the 6 Z06. They are a terrific bargain, especially when you compare them to a new C8 at $80,000. I like to do some of my own mechanicing, and that is what keeps me from getting one of these. Anytime you want to work on the clutch, transmission, rear end, you have to drop the whole rear end, which requires four guys, and a lift. The lift will be tied up with the car on it until you put it all back together. It was so much easier years ago when one guy could pull transmissions and clutches himself and didn't need a lift.

    Taylor nice video, good delivery nice camera movement which makes it easier for us subscribers to follow the process. Although in this video when you moved the camera behind you for a different angle view ( while driving the car) the sound level was compromised so it was difficult to hear you. But overall easy to follow along. I saw the first video when you picked up the Vette and when you changed the tires, I’m looking forward to watching future videos of the progression and all the modifications you plan to do. One suggestion; there are ton’s of DIY’ers out hear that would love to know how you did/do all the modifications yourself, maybe you should consider creating some quick “How to” e-guide.

    The turning issue is probably because the turning radius is different for each wheel which will make it hop. Porsches do the same thing. No problem.

    Do you have a positrac rear end? If so maybe it does not like tight turns and that is the problem not the front end.
    I had headers, glass packs and short pipes on my 69 428cj Mach1 and it was loud. I had to baby it most of the time unless I was street racing it. Cops and little old ladies hate loud cars. Lol

    Good luck with your car but just my two cents I got mine done just over a year ago I highly recommend you at least talk to Tony mamo I ended up with 620 at the rear wheel and after a year of driving it I might have even gone a little smaller on the cam attraction is very limited and there's only so much sticky tires can do I think anything more and the returns how greatly diminished unless your drag racing only with the car if you plan to daily drive it or salad in the future I would stay around 600 rear wheel also budge tzR1 clutch upgrade save your money on a supercharger I don't think it's really necessary it would also be really cool to see a video of a Tony Mamo built good luck whichever way you go

    • @TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel
      @TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel  4 роки тому

      paul doyle thank you for the input! Do you happen to know the specs on the cam you used? I will double check on the Mamo porting and intake before I pull the trigger on anything.

    • @pauldoyle206
      @pauldoyle206 4 роки тому

      Cam specs are very similar to a BTR stage 3 but the most important part is a heads talk to Tony he will explain it to you he's a great guy to work with and goes above and beyond with his customer service

    You are right, I think it's a shame what your doing on the car. I honestly don't think you need more HP and tearing apart a 30k miles car will ruin it. In addition, the beauty of it is NA and once you put a SC on it, will ruin the track characteristics.

    • @TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel
      @TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel  4 роки тому

      Jeff Wisener I may not do the supercharger as I have been talked out of it by several people thus far, however the LS7 valve issue needs to be addressed before I ever track the car, so it will have to come apart regardless. I will keep all the stock parts. It won't be ruined.

    • @jeffwisener1378
      @jeffwisener1378 4 роки тому

      @@TaylorSmithAutomotiveChannel My suggestion is track it without until you really feel you need more power. As you might know, many feel the C7 GS is a better track car than the Z06, more linear, controllable power.
      HP is addicting, I get it. It depends on if you want a manageable scalpel on the track or an unruly beast, not able to be controlled.

      Mint. I have confirmed that the wheels are not rubbing. You can actually feel the car skipping across the pavement during a sharp turn like that. Another commenter has confirmed that it is due to the steering geometry at low speeds.

    Shoulda went Grand Sport if you wanted to go FI. The LS3 is a much more bulletproof platform for boost. The LS7 is fickle enough as an N/A platform... I see a 25K build in your future.
