I would like to refute the "emilia was babysat in season 2" criticism. Her being babysat was the point of her arc there. She was dependent, and thats bad, and in the end she developed and gained some independence, shown to us by her doing the second trial, third trial, talking to the villagers, and protecting the villagers, all on her own, without Subaru's help. Heck, Subaru leaving her alone to do her thing is quite a big moment there, its a culmination of both of their arcs, but thats a topic for another comment.
TRUE! That is a very fair point to make, I didn't make this very clear in the video but my problem had more to do with the pacing of this growth. Not saying it wasn't a great payoff for the character, it was MASSIVE, but I believe it dragged on the story once or twice too much for my taste. That being said though I still believe Emilia to be a wonderfully well done character and easily one of the best in the series!
6:09 ik it sounds strange to say but Rem only killed Subaru once. It doesnt take anything away from your point, but yeah. It was 1 mercy kill in the hallway while he was already dying from the curse. On his second death she was planning to torture him for info and Ram stole the kill with a windblade. She even says: My sister is too merciful
Nah, she blowed tf out of Subaru in that hallway not in 1 shot, she crushed his body and torn his arm apart, and then crushed his head after he writhes in pain, u call that mercy?💀 he even screamed after he reset as if the pain still there
@jamintery During the Sanctuary arc during the trials, a trial from the Webnovel has Emilia calling out Rem by pointing out that Rem made his last moments more painful and his corpse beyond recognition to which Rem stays silent as Emilia was right. So Rem did not try to end his misery but make it greater. So while Rem killed him once, it was not to end his misery but make it worse and the other time her sister actually did try to end his misery
Satella in season 2 says to Subaru 'Why don't you realize, you are supposed be among the people you save' This is brilliant as Subaru and most of the audience then saw Subaru as expendable as we thought he should kill himself if anything goes bad. Author said: No. And he taught that we should love ourselves [Of course not all people deserve it]
If I had to summarize Subaru’s journey as a novel reader, instead of calling it “On his way to become a hero,” I’d say it’s more like “Finding the way that leads to the path of heroism.” You can already catch glimpses of that in the latest season. Subaru has been through so much, but his journey is still barely at the starting line. And no, this isn’t a spoiler-I’m also just speculating. But I’m certain that one day, Subaru will become a hero in the truest sense of the word. Now, the title "Hero" itself is a massive one, with countless interpretations. Many characters could be considered heroes from different perspectives. But too often, the heroes we see are just clichés-shaped by formulaic, textbook ideals to the point that most people nowadays start to cringe in this type of discussion. Now what I believe, though, is that the author of Re:Zero will show Subaru’s heroism in a way that’s completely unique. A way that feels real, raw, and unlike anything we've seen before, An interpretation of Hero that suits Subaru.. And that’s what makes me so excited for what’s to come.
I only started watching rezero when season 3 started airing and now I’m depressed that there isn’t more of it I just finished aot and I’m still thinking “REZERO SEASON3 PART2 I NEEED YOU” just cause how good it was
the anime lacks inner speech which makes it harder for the viewer to relate with subaru and see his character developement and his way of thinking overall. Still peak tho imo
@@jamintery I read manga/manwha, but this is the first novel I’ve read in years. Re:Zero is so peak I’m going to read Lord of the Mysteries, a Song of Fire and Ice, and Stormlight Archive next. Reading is so much more fun than I thought in comparison to tv and comics
Rem only killed him once, Ram killed him out of mercy in episode 7. You can see the wind magic, which is why Rem says, " My sister is too kind." Rem tortured him for around 30 minutes using water magic to heal him for far longer than in the anime.
Ram was seeing him get tortured so she wasn't merciful. In the novels, the scene was longer with healing and then hitting. Ram watched from distance. She most likely did it for rem so rem doesn't kill an innocent. She ignores how roswaal let her village get destroyed. She condones what he does. So, she was merciful to rem not Subaru. There's no reason for her to like Subaru in that situation
@@SamirSiraj8542 I know she was watching him get tortured for 30 minutes. She even cut his leg with wind magic. You also see that in the anime. I was thinking about including it in the comment, but the scene is already twisted, and Rem saying, "My sister is too kind," is all sorts of twisted logic already.
I know you are currently anime-only but I just want to say the world building of re zero is massive, much more than Mushoku Tensei or Slime and there are still a lot of unsolved mysteries
i mostly HATE anime, im extremely picky. I look for some awesome writing, a deep lore, good character developement and a story that will give me excite. And i can easily say that this anime is peak. One of the rare animes ive actually enjoyed, and one of the easiest 10/10's for me.
I’m curious as to what other anime you’ve tried because there is a pretty good amount of anime that are like what you described. Things like Mushoku Tensei which is the most popular and well received isekai besides Re:ZERO. The Monogatari series which has the best written overall cast in all of anime imo. One Piece is an obvious example although the anime has absolutely horrid pacing. Hunter X Hunter is also absolutely amazing with what i would call “deep lore.” Some other animes that are also amazingly written would be stuff like Your Lie in April, Gintama, Vivy Propotype, (by the same author as Re:ZERO) Attack on Titan, Steins Gate, Frieren, Eighty Six, Sound Euphonium, and the Fate series. I could go on and on but all of those are series I would say even people who dont really like the average anime could enjoy. Besides Gintama and Monogatari which would definitely be weird to watch for someone who doesn’t watch a lot of anime.

At the beginning of arc 3 he demanded recognition and praise for all his sacrifices but after seeing everyone die horribly over and over again gave him a shift in priority. Subaru's only desired reward now is just seeing everyone happy and alive.
6:07 to be fair he never forgot he the sloth if route he mentions how he married Rim despite her killing him before since spoilers they take in someone who tried to kill them
the funny thing about Subaru's magic is that he can no longer use any spells alone since he completely broke his gate when he fought with Garfiel. (he legit needs Beako to stay alive, since he also no longer can eject mana)
The I like reminded me of something that happens in the US Navy back in World War II. When the USS Indianapolis went down call Mom the couple thousand men that Survived The Sinking were left stranded in the water for 3 days. Majority of the men were swimming for the entire time. The only one that had a steady thing to keep their mind occupied was the ship the Doctor Who is going around trying to make sure everyone was okay and he would find that certain Sailors would be so mentally gone or catatonic that the only way to see if they were actually still alive would be to flick their open eyeball. If they reacted to the pain then they were alive and if they didn't they were pushed under like Jack from Titanic to make room for more survivors
Subaru is way to positive even after everything he's faced and he hasn't gotten the recognition he deserves dude figured out regulus's ability just by hearing his name took an army of 10,000 solider's that have no combat experience whatsoever buffed them up stopped a magical cannon that can destroy a capital teloported the great rabbit into another dimension defeated the white whale and even more...... like what if......
just watched episode 18. the middle of season 1 is a grind. i understand subaru is supposed to be an average person, but this dude has not played a single video game in his life. for being so adament about trying to save all his friends, he seriously cant even use 1% of his brain to try to use his power to his advantage at all. he's died like 10 tims at the point im at and has been in this world for probably like 2 months for of time (counting the days that he lived that got reset) but has no clue how anythign works and doesnt take advantage of his power at all which is the only thing he can use to save people. dude yaps all day and makes every situation about him, like when he was at the capital for the ruler candidates meeting that was not about him at all but injected himself, but when he meets enemies suddenly all he can do is wimper like a baby. like bro knows he's gonna get reset, but the enemy doesn't and they can tell he's powerless and definitely going to die. he could ask them questions to get info before he dies to help him when he resets. "but how did you do that?" "why are you doing this?" but no he just sits there and cries so now he gets to watch his friends die an extra time because he decidede to gather minimal info on every attempt to change the future
Mushoku is mid. It thinks it's doing re:Zero but manages to completely miss the point. Though the anime hasn't gotten far enough to make that obvious yet.
