52 years ago I got fries straight from the fryer, and wrapped about 4 of them in a slice of cheddar cheese. It tasted like heaven. I've never had anything like it since. I think that everything that I have ever eaten tasted better 52 years ago. I'm sure everything was fried in beef tallow back then. Mmmmmmm. Beef Tallow. If I get to heaven, and they are cooking with seed oils, I'm going to take the next train out. Because seed oil isn't Heaven.
Gareth and family have a Happy Christmas and a safe and great New Year. I am knocking the drink on the head now. Thanks for your help Gareth. God bless us all Steve. P.S love the vlogs
They're delicious, only got them the other day. What I done and it sounds mad, 4 mins at 200°, shake, I have a spray bottle of malt vinegar, give them a spritz of that, back in at 190° for 5-6 mins, job done. Bowl of them, with mayflower curry sauce, match on, all is ok in the world. Great review Gareth 👍👍
I also bought twin pots of lobster, prawn and crayfish cocktails in Aldi, one of which I had for lunch. Blown away gorgeous. But incredibly expensive and a limited edition, so they might have sold out already. I sliced up some cucumber and ate it with Lidl sourdough toasted bread.
The health guide on the front of the pack belies the strange chemical names on the back of the pack which could mean if you eat enough of these you might grow another arm out of the middle of your chest. Look yummy though.
The Aldi Potato Wedges are crap, dry and taste of nothing, but the Triple Cooked Beef Dripping chips are nice (and cost way more than the wedges, but if you try both you can see why).
There's some great gems at Aldi. They do a Quiche Lorraine with 1200 cals that's only £1.99. I got 3 of them, cut each into 4 quarters, put each quarter in a sandwich bag, back in the original box and in the freezer. Bish bash bosh. Thaw a slice, 10 mins at 120°C in the air fryer (don't try high temps, it burns it). This is only 50p for a 300 cal slice. The Quiche Lorraine is cheap but it's not bad, a strong cheese taste, enough bacon etc. Great for dieting, or have the full circle if you can get away with it. The best "throwback" food ever. It's in a pink box near the olives and cold meats.
Top video, will give these a go, just tried the black pudding sausages you showed the other week, bet these would go well with them, Wishing you and yours a lovely Christmas
@@DameTremonti I once saw an Aston Martin Vantage V550 on an Aldi car park. This is why these people have cars like that. They are saving 42% (over places like Iceland) by shopping at Aldi. That was the difference when I compared ~40 items at both, that I buy regularly. It was an eye-opener and I'll never buy anything at Iceland again!
When I worked on Food Factory Lines, all they used to do, was change the Packaging for the same Product, and sold them at different Prices to the supermarkets.
So many varients of these Hash Browns , my latest ones are Cauliflower Hash Brown by Strong Roots. Needs slippage to get it shoved down , gimmicks sell and if liked back for more.
I brought a pkt from Aldi at Maypole in Birmingham yesterday 17.12.2024. I was charged £2.75. It just shows prices do vary across the country for items, you paid £2.49, a big difference.
Had the Iceland own brand ones in the Food Warehouse shop where I go for several months!... do make a nice change from normal chips/🍟 fries ... do have the slight onion flavour which might not be to everyone's taste.👍
Haha, he always comes up with stuff I'd never remember but when he says it I do. Most notably "Birds Eye Steakhouse 1982 "Hope It's Chips" Advert". Showed it my mum and she instantly remembered buying them every week. 🙂The weekly "big shop" at our local Kwik-Save. Mum saying "Put it back" when I was trying to sneak stuff into the trolley lol. Walking around losing my parents then thinking I saw my mum and saying "Mum" to some random woman. 😂
Would have like to have seen what spices but it didn't list them. They look decent and we now have a breakfast chip :). Might be slightly over priced mind but these would go well with a bit of bacon and maybe an egg ).
I'm not usually into either gimmicks or Hash Browns. That said, I would certainly go for these. I loved ' pommes mitt mayo ' in the day, and still do. A bit of salt and vinegar to give them a chipshop feel and I reckon they wiuld be great. A great review, suggested by mum 👍👍.
They may well be very tasty but...What a great way for a well known shopping chain to charge it's customers nearly £2.50 for just under 1.25 lb's of flavoured potatoes. Seriously, £2.49 for 550 grams! That equates to around £2 per lb. What are they playing at? Clearly they have absolutely no shame in ripping off their customers.
Thank you for the head's up on these....I will get my lovely wife on the case and try these.... I'm not a fan of hash browns but It'll be a nice surprise if I like em.... You are still my lovely wife and my favourite channel.. keep up the good work and thank you...
Hi Gareth, Mam’s always get it right no matter what your fries would be lovely cold with lots of different flavour dips Thank you to your mam, &thanks for taste testing all the best 🤗👍🎄Lin
Iceland overall is about 42% more expensive than Aldi. Some items are the exact same product like "Flora Lighter" 450g that's £1.65 in Aldi but £2.50 in Iceland. In fact right now the Iceland web page showing that says "Was £2.50" and the current price is £2.50 😂What a saving! ZERO saving. They think we're stupid and won't look around at prices. Please don't go to Iceland. Look at Aldi and Lidl - they are the only two places now that are considerably cheaper than everywhere else. Iceland used to be a budget place but these days, absolutely not. There's probably stuff in Waitrose and M&S that's cheaper.
Been on these since day (1) Gareth , absolutely best fries on the market cheap as chips as well (no pun intended) Even better with a light spray of oil on them at the start 👍👍👍👍👍
Hi bald foodie guy. As its nearly Christmas how about doing a Cranberry Sauce compare. I quite like Baxters myself lovely and tangy and not overly sweet. Keep the videos coming your saving people loads of money.
Thanks Gareth another great review. I must admit I don't see the point of calling them hash brown fries, and aren't they just a deconstructed has brown anyway. Do we really need another potato product that doesn't bring any new to the party?. I probability won't be rushing to buy them myself. Have a great week, in the last few semi-sane days week before Christmas😂.👍
HI good video I have tried them just this week and I would recommend cooking in all ways that is on the packaging instructions. the taste is different? but it is A gimmick Afterall there fries. stay strong 👌👌👍👍
I bought these today, but they weren't £2.49, they were £2.75. Perhaps the higher price in South Lincolnshire is because we're supposed to be better off financially down south. Whatever, the actual fries are absolutely delicious. I cooked 120g in the round Ninja air fryer for 8 minutes at 180 degrees, shaking once. *Edit* These hash brown fries were tasty, but omigod what wind I got later! I was burping for half an hour.
Oven chips are always dry, Just shallow fry or sling into the deep fat fryer. I guarantee they will taste 100% better and crisper. Oven chips have lost most of their water content. Frying replaces with yummy oils.Or you could boil and feed them to seagulls. Doubt they'll be back for months.
Probly some people would have those with a English breakfast possibly .i don’t add chips to my breakfast as a Scottish breakfast has enough .black pudding .steak square sausage pork links beans .tomatoes mushrooms tattie scones etc lol 😂
Not bad looking for a formed potato product, lord knows I eat enough tater tots. I would back off on the time/temperature. I like a bit of pickle with my fries, serving them with a pickle spear garnish, so maybe for this make an aoli with some saved pickle juice or grab a bottle of prepared tartar sauce. Horseradish could be nice too.

Great review Gareth. Definitely going to try them 👍❤️
Thanks
I'll give them a try £2.49 about the right price , I always get confused with Aldi and Asda 😂 my age ,we'll give em a run out 🙌
Asda car park has regular motors on it, Aldi car park is Jaguars, BMW's and Mercs.

Never shop at Asda.
Why are 750g of Aldi Hash Browns £1.59 but 550g of these HB fries £2.49? Aldi rapidly losing their reputation for cheapness.
Maybe this fries are more expensive to produce or from a different supplier.
@@marcom2248
They're both 4 seasons/Aldi and both the same ingredients
It’s called a ‘gimmick’ and sadly the masses LOVE gimmicks (and aren’t seemingly too bothered about basic economics) Sad isn’t it?!

Serving suggestion: how about some brown sauce and dunk them in fried or poached egg, seeing as it's based on a hash brown.
My daughter loves hash browns and absolutely loves these she's a huge fan of the mini jalapeno hash brown bites as well 😊

If you can taste the oil then it's not a regular option, but a rare treat. We need to be a bit more conscious of our fat intake..
They looked really good. Love a hash brown so I no doubt would love these. I need to get some. Very nice review.
