    Have you ever thought of teaching? You explain things thoroughly and make it easy to understand.

      +Rangenoah teaching would be great, but the love for what I do stems in the OR. It would be very hard to leave that. I think it would be cool to compile a paid professional video series of information for techs and other health professionals to use similar to a study guide for those people that are more visual learners. There is so much information out there, but it's just scattered all over the place.

    I’m a PA-S2 and want to thank you for talking about a lot of stuff they just expect you to learn on surgical rotations. Helped curve my anxiety of getting slammed on day 1

    Seeing the walls of sutures is amazing, and with the music it's downright inspirational!
    As the previous comment mentions, you would be an amazing teacher (which is what you are doing here on UA-cam).

    This video is incredibly helpful for me. My instructor actually used some of your videos in class. Thank you so much for your videos. I would like to see a video on instruments.....maybe a few that are commonly used during surgery.

    Using this channel for general knowledge. 1+ year experience in an orthopaedic surgical hospital as a supply chain tech. Doubling up now by training as a sterile processing tech. Interesting to see both jobs and these vids are awesome. Thanks!

    Have you ever thought of doing like an "instrument of the day" type of thing? I'm thinking one or two instruments at the end of each video. Including the type of instrument, the name, what it's used for, etc. I think it would be really helpful. Just an idea. I really enjoy watching your videos! Thank you!

      +Selena M great suggestion, but I think I want to try and stay on one topic for videos. Its just easier for people to come to the UA-cam page and find out what they want to watch or learn. I had the idea of doing a playlist of different instrument trays that we use at my hospital like general set, minor vascular, minor Ortho etc etc. And I could breakdown not only all of the instruments in the trays, but explain which instruments are used in most cases and such. I think those types of videos would serve the audience better. I just have to get the ok from my bosses to pop open sterile trays to make videos now lol

    We have a FS , FSL, and FSLX. My preceptor says FS is like saying frozen section, or tissue to close, FSL means large tissue; and FSLX is a very big tissue to close

    You should consider doing a video on the sequence of instrument passing and some of the things to anticipate a surgeon needing :) I can't seem to find very much information on that wherever I look.

    6:00 - I would LOVE to know what these acronyms/model numbers stand for or signify. I get that they’re needle size, taper vs. cutting, etc. but I’m curious what CTX or PS or PSL, for example. I’d love to know what P______ S_______ L_______ stands for!! Thanks in advance!

    Are needles and sutures all pre-planned and put on the table, or are they called for on the fly during surgery?

    • @TChanu-xt1bh
      @TChanu-xt1bh 3 роки тому +1

    A nice video but no real explanation for the different names of different needles

  • @astutely
    @astutely 7 років тому

    I noticed that the needles seem to be pre-paired with certain sutures already, like BB with 4-0 Prolene sutures; you later mentioned that the needle/suture pairings can be interchangeable. Is there any particular reason why the manufacturers pair each type of needle with a specific type of suture, and why do surgeons change it? Like perhaps for tensile strength? Do you usually change the pairing, or just leave it? O:

    • @SurgicalTechTips
      @SurgicalTechTips  7 років тому

      +youtube account manufacturer's pair needles with sutures that are the most commonly used. It can be many different varieties. 4-0 BB, RB-1, SH etc etc.

    Have you ever set up for a case let's say the doctor turns the table to the right 90°, so you set up on one side, but this time the doctor says he needs to move the patient to the left 90°. Have you ever have to switch sides to your table like moving your workng end on the other side while moving your inst. And moving your mayo, kust about everything to accommodate the surgeon?

    • @SurgicalTechTips
      @SurgicalTechTips  7 років тому +1

      I usually just leave it as is unless I have plenty of time to move stuff over. I'll accommodate if it helps things run smooth.

    So are needles not sterilised and reused? Most vet needles are reused.

    • @ccoop3774
      @ccoop3774 6 років тому

      No. They are one time use only. If we had started opening and the case cancels, we can't even reuse those sutures. We have sent them to vets, mission trips and students to practice with. I have taken some of the skin sutures home. It saved me a few hundred on my dog one night.

      Just think. Some people are driven by cost, some by ethics. 1 box of MCP426H 36x 27" 18mm 4-0 costs 500CAD (I only found 870USD, go figure) so it might seem costly to some...
