Yes, that was John Lennon having a great time in the audience , more animated than I can ever remember seeing him, he always seems so reserved in interviews and performances. very nice to see.
Jagger was never a real heavy drug user..He of course did drugs recreationally, away from performing..I saw him in an interview where he stated that he learned pretty early on that it wasn't a good idea to do drugs, or drink before performing, because it would affect his control..Keith Richards?!..Well, that's a whole other kettle of fish!..Lol!..But really though, Jagger always kept himself in very good shape for his performances.
Let it Bleed album is fantastic...but this song, “Sympathy For The Devil” is from the Beggars Banquet album. Let’s be accurate for her since she is relatively new to the Stones catalog of music
Well in 1968 and 69 he was suffering from a pretty wicked Heroin issue until he went Cold Turkey in August 1969. His behaviour during that period was even more volatile than normal (he had always been prone to rages). So if you got him on a good day he was the charming funny guy people remember from the early years of the Beatles and on a bad day he was strung out. It's actually the main reason the Beatles broke up because the other three really struggled to deal with him during this time period and George and Paul started thinking about solo stuff whilst Ringo just sort of checked out. By the time he got clean it was too late because the damage to what was left of the bands unity was done. I'm guessing it was a good day in December 68 when this was recorded as he certainly does look happy here.
Yeah this is live from a film they did called The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. The Who and John Lennon perform in it too. 1968. If they seem and weird and out of it it’s more because they were performing about 3 in the morning more than from being on drugs. They were supposed to go on earlier, but production delays from the other performers caused them to go on early in the morning
Plus, it was I think the third day of the show, and Jagger was one of the organizers, so he didn’t get much sleep. Any drugs he did was probably to stay awake. Considering how wiped-out they must’ve been by then, I think they played a great set.
Yes. This is live. It’s from their long-withheld TV Show the Rollings Stones’ Rock n Roll Circus! If u look close, John n Yoko are in the audience dancing! Everyone is wearing bags. I think it was a brief Bagism stage. Jagger is probably not on many drugs here, relatively speaking. But Brian Jones playing maracas in the background is about gone. He dies soon after. The whole show is great. Most notably The Who for A Quick One!!! And a Supergroup of John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richard and Jimi Hendrix’s drummer Mitch Mitchell
He was Producer of this TV show so was not on drugs during the shoot. This was shot "as live". The event began at 5pm and the Stones didn't get on stage till 2am. Filmed with hybrid Film/TV cameras imported from France, which kept breaking down, this is the third take of this track from just before 4am (According to the director's commentary on the DVD). They wrapped around 7:40 am leaving the Who, still drinking and happily clearing up the bottles and glasses !
Yeah, it's live. Most of the Rock & Roll Circus film is live (except for Jethro Tull, where only the vocal & flute mic is live...the rest is from their album). December 1968
Pretty sure this is live from the Rock and Roll Circus. You should listen to the original studio version sometime. Keith's lead licks on that version kinda sizzle. Much LSD was consumed during this concert. It's right around the time that they're singing this song at the Altamont concert about a year later that the killing by the Hell's Angel happens.
The swag of Mick Jagger, who can't even be asked to shake a maraca...they had to bring on a guy for the maracas. Lead vocals and anything else I'll be in my trailer, yo.
I don't know what exactly it is, but I love watching you in these videos. You are about the cutest thing I have ever seen, and your smile is so infectious.
From the album "Beggars Banquet." This is from the "Rock and Roll Circus" event (also with Nicky Hopkins on piano). You would love their song: Can't You Hear Me Knocking. I don't think Mick was on drugs in this; just carried away with the performance.
It's from the 1968 Rock & Roll Circus concert with the WHO, John Lennon and others. The Stones produced the show but never released the film until recently as they felt the WHO upstaged them at the time.
The live version is available but this has been re-dubbed coz the sound quality was not great in the tent. The original record has extra voices and electric shock treatment.
If you like this, check out The Who's performance of "A QUICK ONE WHILE HE'S AWAY" from this same show (Rock N' Roll Circus). that performance caused the Stones to NOT perform live for a few years after this show aired! FIRE🔥🔥🔥
I can see why they sat on this footage for so long not wanting it released..EVERYBODY else at this show blew them away..Taj Mahal was great and the Who's performance of 'A Quick One' completely stole the show.
The dude in the background was the founding member of the band,Brian Jones who was a very talented multi instrumentalist and featured heavily on their earlier massive hits playing anything from sitar to recorder.Unfortunately his lifestyle caught up with him.
Mick wasnt happy with this performance and kept it from public view. for many years.............Watching Brian Jones at the background: heartbreaking .. by that time he was out of the band ; the band he formed, named.........sad story!!!
Absolutely And I love all the people saying the studio versions better - they say that about every song from every band I’ll take a shit live performance all day over listening to the studio version over and over. Studio versions are often dozens of takes overdubs cut and paste and all kinds of editing even back in the 60s/70s Live performance is always the creek de la creme And he was not off beat here. He has so much rhythm he’s syncopating rhythms that are clearly misunderstood by the casual listener
This take was late into the Rock and Roll Circus and they were dog tired. They didn't release this for man years because they didn't think it was a good representation. I like it.
Hahaha what are you doing. Classic song sung by one of the best with an all star band that's still playing. Over the years I've seen them in concert several times. Awesome band.
Yup, "Let It Bleed" is a great album. I remember being in the first grade and sneaking to hear this song on the radio. My family didn't want me to hear any song that referenced the devil. Great memories with this song. As far as drug usage is concerned---Mick did his share, but he can't hold a candle to lead guitarist Keith Richards. I've heard two different stories regarding Keith's drug escapades, and I think either one could be correct. One story is that Keith Richards accidentally snorted some of his father's ashes when doing a line of cocaine one night. The other story is that Keith rolled some of his father's ashes up in a joint and smoked them. Keith Richards is easily one of rock's top drug abusers. Mick is relatively tame...he just dances wildly!
Yep he was.He had just come off of filming the Performance film where he kept the look from that film fir a few months.Dyed black hair Joan Crawford red lipstick and lilac eyeshadow.Marianne Faithful helped him develop this look.
Oh noooooooooo! Wrong version by a mile. Missing the backup vocals and some important instrumentation. The studio version is much better...the lyrical video that was right above the one you selected. It's a good live performance for sure...but to miss the studio version is a crime. This is a good live version though.
Ya-Ya's live version is also awesome (actually they really played it in a similar way in 2018 when I saw them the last live). But probably it's not hard to find better live versions than this one, and this one is still quite ok.
Never eat during a reaction! Cmon Jagger went to the London school of business he never let drugs or booze stand in the way of making him a billionaire.
The stones hired the hells angels as body guards, it didn’t turn out to well. A murder and others got beat up. Stones didn’t want to testify, so they feared for their life.
Yes, that was John Lennon having a great time in the audience , more animated than I can ever remember seeing him, he always seems so reserved in interviews and performances. very nice to see.
There's plenty of videos of him cracking jokes and making funny faces.
John Lennon 🤢

RIP to Brain Jones,The original member of the Stones.(blonde guy(🇨🇦😷
You know scribe Tina Turner is the one who thought him his moves on stage..served him well.
The studio version definitely sounds better, but anytime you have John Lennon rocking out to your live performance, well ... that can't be topped.
...and Keith Moon!
The guy in the Willy Wonka suit is Brian Jones, former leader of the band. He's a drug casualty and died about a year later
This is December 1968 and Brian died in July 1969.
Ya, this one is a rocker. Anything off their "Let it Bleed" album is gold.
Let it Bleed album is fantastic...but this song, “Sympathy For The Devil” is from the Beggars Banquet album. Let’s be accurate for her since she is relatively new to the Stones catalog of music

John Lennon looks more energetic, and enthusiastic than when he was with The Beatles from 1967-1970.
Well in 1968 and 69 he was suffering from a pretty wicked Heroin issue until he went Cold Turkey in August 1969. His behaviour during that period was even more volatile than normal (he had always been prone to rages). Its a lot of fun watching you rock to the Rolling Stones. I have listened to them since 1964. They were the best.
Love your take on this old rock music. Fresh and insightful.
This is the very first time that they ever performed this song. Dec 12th, 1968...The Rock n Roll Circus
I was 6 months old that day.
@@factsdontcareaboutyourfeel9549 A little under 5 months before I was born
The reason. they are in those outfits is because this was The Rolling Stones Rock n Roll circus from 1969.

Mick was leading hard rock into the glam rock territory that dominated rock music a few years later
Paint it black and Wild horses are a must listen
The Stones are in their 70's now. This video is probably 50 years old.
And they’re still rocking 👍
Keith Richards said "dont do drugs". We cant can we Keith. You took them all.
Yeah that one must be live, it doesn't even have the demons singing in the background...Whoo woo! Whoo woo! Whoo woo!

Brilliant lyrics... no band like the Rolling Stones.
Mr Lennon cuttin a rug 😂
This is one of my favorite Songs of the Stones. So so cool.
This was LIVE...it was the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus concert.
Yes it's Live. The song on the record is the one to listen to. This is great cause The Rolling Stones are great Live.
And a happy 77th birthday to Keith Richards (much to the surprise of those that knew of him in the '70s).
LIVE -Studio one has "whoo whoo" backup vocals that make it soar
Would love to see a reaction to "Let it loose" from Exile on Main Street - personally the most tearjerking song in the Stones catalog
This is a great live performance. I do like the studio because it has the harmonies singing who-hoo.
Yeah, it's live. Most of the Rock & Roll Circus film is live (except for Jethro Tull, where only the vocal & flute mic is live...the rest is from their album). December 1968
The lyrics adressing the evil that some give into. Great commentary on the human condition. Tough but true. Great live version.
Big dawg lol. Your low husky voice sounds like you drank smoky whiskey by the campfire for 8 straight days. It's endearing.
The album version has way more energy than this one. Such a good song, so I say check out the album version.
