Finally a detailed review of the LS 600c.
It's amazing at how much Andrew's presentation skills have improved.
Well done!
As usual for you, a very thorough and unbiased review. Great information! Thanks so much for doing these.
Thanks for all the modifier tests! Good things to know when I'm choosing between my 600s
Great review, thanks Andrew. The colour quality looks great, but I do feel RGBACL technology will have the edge in brightness for point source lights going forward. Let's see how that optimised projection attachment goes... usually not good to start with a larger COB for optics.
Great stuff Andrew. Always appreciate the knowledge base!
Would love to see the comparison with prolycht, thanks for the video Andrew!
Me too. Has he reviewed the prolycht 675 lights?
That’ll be very interesting. Rgbacl seems to be the future
@@wadfasfsdfdsfsf no, current status is shipping starts in September, so I don’t think we’ll see anything about it before
Literally watching this video on my new RFID scanner instead of labeling lights. Andrew your videos are fantastic!!!
Awesome review as always Andrew! Thanks alot
Wonderfully comprehensive! 🙏🏻
Andrew, a quick note to thank you for your reviews, they're exactly what I needed to help decide which lights to initially purchase for a corporate setup. Went with two 600c's kits from B&H and a 300x. Something to build upon.
thank you for this very extensive and helpful review.
Thank you so much for the detailed review.
incredible insight here. thanks for the facts!
That's a proper review. Thank you very much. It was very usefull
These videos are extremely helpful, been looking at adding some new lights to the van and making the decision a bit more educated (still a tough one) between adding a second 600X/C and F22c or the 1200D to the kit.
I am deciding same thing (different needs I know) what did you go for?
Now that is a complete review!
I got to see this light on NAB this year. The comparison between 600X helped a ton. I love my 600D but I find myself putting a CTO on it for the majority of its use so I think it's time for a 600X. 600D has been incredibly useful to bounce for a larger source.
My two 600x with F10 are a work horse. They get used all the time
I really hope aperture starts making controllers with support for B mount batteries.
15A standard 20A optional at 24V will be so nice. 300-400W off a single battery and no risk of melting pins if you need the power for a short time on battery
So I was right, this is the ultimate corporate gig light. Once the modifiers are optimized for it it'll be a no brainer to get a couple of these.
Great review as usual. Thank you. Now have to consider whether I'd be better off with a second 600x or getting the 600c instead :)
Yep, with all the information it's a tough call isn't it!
Thank you sir!
With these results would you say most are better off with this over the 600x because your bicolor tests show it’s brighter on the C. Thanks for all the reviews and info helps ALOT!
Excellent review as always🙂 I'd love to know how it compares to the Orbiter in terms of output.
Great review, Andrew - these are easily the best professional light reviews out there, do you have any plans to review the Amaran F22c/F21c or F22x/F21x, I've already pre-ordered them but I'd love to see a more detailed review than what I've seen already
I have the full colour here for testing, you won't be disappointed in them
@@gaffergear Great! Thanks for responding and the feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks again!
Would be cool if Aperture designed a spotlight attachment with an interchangeable (or even zoomable?) element, to work with different size COBs - but I don't know if that's even optically possible to engineer.
Hi Andrew! Really great reviews. Thank you! But a quick question: I compared your data of the 600c with the 600x. And without a modifier the 600c seems to have more output than the 600x. Is this correct? If so my conclusion would be that the 600c has more output when using it with the 150 Dome. Can you confirm that?
Awesome Andrew! Just to clarify, Are saying that Aputure will be releasing a spotlight mount that will work with the 1200d?!
Yep
Hi Andrew, Just having an issue getting my LS600C to talk to my Control on in CCT/HSI mode, all functions work but not HSI and i've put the cat/hsi slide to 100%..... does CCT but not colours, colours worn ok in RGB mode ?
Hi Andrew, I saw you using the Nanlite Fresnel with your 600cs on a video you posted updating your large van package. Any specific reason for that? Does the FL20G work better then the F10 with the 600c? Thanks for your videos, you're the best.
Slightly brighter and slightly better optics, a lot lighter and I can fit 4 of them in the space of 1 of anything else
Excellent review Andrew. One question, what kind of camera can take pictures at a 17 thousandth of a second?
Canon R3 goes 1/64000
I use an old mobile phone that doesn't have an iris and relies on the shuter to reduce brightness. Old phones also don't have image processing to remove the flicker.
@@gaffergear Interesting. I did not know that. That's pretty cool.
@@realJacobLane more dependable than a $2000 frequency metre
Have you ever tried arri orbiter? How does it compares with this unit?
Nice Review!
I haven't had my hands on one
Is it better to gel a light if pointing it at a person vs using RGB ? Isn't there a difference in skin tones that's not as natural when using RGB over gels ?
Yes, use gels for skin tones. Here's a video that goes over the big issue you need to be aware of when you use RGB lights.
ua-cam.com/video/5U-F7EhLp7g/v-deo.html
I was going to refer you to the same video
Andrew, what kind of paint do you use to stencil on your names on the gear? I assume any paint works, but then with high heat that these lights generate, I figure maybe you're using something more specialized?
I use a silver paint pen.
@@gaffergear is there a special brand you use? I find all the ones i try end up whiping off rather quickly after a few rentals.
@@directoradamg I just use sharpies. I've sold light to people and they can't get my name off
Can it make pure R,G,B colors?
Great extensive video! Congrats! I'm only lost on the F10 and 600c. I got it that it's not optimized for the size of the cob for the 600c and 1200d, but you mentioned that only increases by 59% on using on the 600c and 35% on using on the 600D and 47% on the 600X. And then says you'll not be substituting bicolor lights for the full color ones because of this. But 59% is bigger than 35 and 47%, what am I missing? Best regards!
He said that it increases the light level of the 600c from the bare chip by 59%. Then he said that max brightness from the 600c with the fresnel on Is only 35% the brightness of the 600d with the fresnel. Then he said that max brightness of the 600c with the fresnel is only 47% the brightness of the 600x with the fresnel. So the 600c with fresnel is only about half as bright as the 600x with fresnel, and it’s about 1/3 the brightness of the 600d with its fresnel.
How do you think the 600D or X would react with the narrow Hyper Reflector?
Sounds like an episode to do, especially as they are sold as a kit now
I normally use a 600D and 300X as my main two lights and have 60x and a couple 1x1 RGB panels for accents. I shoot commercials and short films. I am trying to decide what the next most useful light would be to buy. 600C Pro, Nova 600, or 1200D. In your opinion, which would seem to be the next logical step? Thanks!
If I'm ever torn between buying lights I keep a diary.
I note down which light I would have used if I had it. At the end of the month I count to see which would have been used more
@@gaffergear Thanks for that. Very helpful. Lets see what the next month brings me.
Stuck deciding between this or the Nova 600.
A lot of guys gearing up are saying the same thing
Why is the f10 frensel attachment optimized for the 600d but not the 600c?
He mentioned it in the video.
Size of the COB is too large, more akin to the 1200d
@@conrad2nr it's not optimized for the 1200d either but there is a reason why in asking about the 600d and 600c with f10 . I wanna know if one is more optimize than the other because he does use it with his 600x
@@creativegreats6924 the 600C and 1200d COB are about the same size i.e. they're larger than the 600d/600X COB and as a result they're not optimised for the F10 fresnel.
You don't gain much output with the 1200d with the F10 fresnel and with the 600C you're actually better off just going with the included reflector. Also, the shadows aren't as sharp.
@@conrad2nr thanks I just played this video back I was getting ready at the time so I missed important parts of this video. Yea because I always heard the f10 was best on a aputure 600d .cool
Does the 600D or 1200D have the same flicker issues as the 600C does?
The 600D is fine, I have actually used it at 1000fps, even when dimmed it was ok.
The 1200D (currently) is not flicker free at 1000 FPS which I discovered on set. However the next firmware update will have a high speed mode that is flicker free regardless of frame rate. I'm under NDA as a beta tester for that so I can't go into details other than to say it works
@@gaffergear Thanks for the info and all you do on this channel!
A firmware update is out now with a high speed mode
Wish Aputure can make a new version of Fresnel for working perfectly with 600C.
Apparently it would have to be 14" to get good optics.
@@gaffergear Hi there. This comment is a lot more recent than the video, and it sounds a little less confident as to whether we'll ever have one available. Do you still think they'll make one? and if not, do you have any advice on a barndoor sollution for the 600c. Is there a third party bowens barndoors you know of that would fit? I've ordered the 600c and a low boy combo stand, and will just work with my flags.. but it would be great if they did bring a fresnel out. Thanks for your time, and no worries if you're too busy to take this question.
@@jimmypurtill6331 I don't think they will make a fresnel for this, just because of size and weight.
I have discovered (in Flood) that the Forza fresnel works better on this light. Good barn door cuts, about brighter but not a huge amount, but a heck of a lot lighter weight and cheaper. I use that combination a lot.
@@gaffergear Andrew, are you talking about the F35 fresnel? or the FL20g?
@@existenciatv3230 FL 20G
Can you compare 600c with arri orbiten?
Very unlikely, almost no one has an orbitor in Melbourne
Either I missed it or nothing about fan noise :(
I have four of them, no one has complained about sound issues. It's fairly quiet but not silent. Generally can't hear it over the other sounds on set
