      You might want to check out Mike Conley Sr.'s dunk from the free throw line. James White is 6'7 while Conley Sr. is 6'1 and watch where he took off from the free throw line.

    • @teslacoil8646

      toscodav The NBA freethrow line is 15 ft. The FIBA (i.e. international court that James White is on in this video) is 15.09 ft. The FIBA freethrow line is actually a little farther. 4.6m vs. 4.57m which is 3cm, which is just over an inch further. The fact that James White jumped from BEHIND the freethrow line on his 3rd dunk is insane.

    Its crazy how dunking and players have evolved over the years. Like 25 or so years ago when Dr. J first dunked from the free throw line it was a HUGE deal, then in the mid 90s Isiah Rider introduced the between the legs dunk in the NBA dunk contest and it was a huge deal now you got somebody doing a between the legs from the foul line. Can only imagine whats its gonna be like in 15 years.

      LOL WRONG. every object goes up and then down, in a parabola. So, the only way he was at his highest when dunking is if he was halfway through the air. He jumped 15', so you're saying he jumped 30'. Nope. Plus, there is video looking down the lane from behind him several times and you see him rise and start coming down before dunking....each time....clearly.
      Some jumps wouldn't fit what I said befause grabbing the rim stops their movement through the air, but those are all dunks performed from a much much closer takeoff point.

    The key difference is, Jordan takes a pretty relaxed jog to the line, dribbling the ball. And floats to the basket. It's all vertical leap
    Guy's like this sprint as fast as they can, not dribbling. Like a long jump in the Olympics. They're relying on velocity

    Jordan is a better dunker due to presentation. He understands its about how you deliver and not just the dunk itself. But dunk wise, unless the free throw line is shorter to the basket in this case, James White did a better dunk then MJ or Dr J because he stepped in the same location as Dr J did and did it between his legs, wow.

    Been a fan of James White since he was at Cincy. Great college athlete, 26ft long jumper on Cincy track team. Age and extra weight take a lot out of you as an athlete. I wish him well in his NBA career.

    If he hadn't done the same exact dunks in 2008 and in other dunk contest. Nothing will ever compare to the VC contest, imo. He didn't miss, and McGrady and Francis could have one any other contest with their dunks.
    Not knocking JW, just saying I think he was always going to be at a disadvantage in the NBA Contest unless he did something brand new.

  • @PradigyMusicman
    @PradigyMusicman 11 років тому

    He can jump really high and far, but his dunks just don't have the style that Carter, Jordan, Kemp or Wilkins did. Everyone knew he was going to jump from the Free Throw Line, so I think he was at a disadvantage b/c people expected that.
    Dunking is an art, showmanship is an art too.
    His Windmill was the nastiest one I've ever seen him do.

    My friend, James white would not of been able to do this dunk if he did pass on to the next round. Maybe if James white was still in his prime, then yes that would be a possibility. Although the sad fact is that everyone eventually looses a couple of inches in vertical or maybe a step due to age. Look at Vince Carter for example. Him and James White can still get up better then most dunkers...but these are not thier greatest dunking days. Thats the moral of the 2013 dunk contest for me at least.

  • @TheAnvilMan
    @TheAnvilMan 11 років тому

    Look at the replay at 3:30...
    Not only was it a windmill from the free throw line, but for once the dunker was not either ahead or on top of the stripe, he was actually a few inches BEHIND the line...
    I was hoping to see this in the dunk contest and laugh at everyone's amazed reactions, but it didn't happen... I'm soo dissapointed. ;_;
    Was he nervous or was it age? I hope it was just nerves and he comes back next year to reclaim himself...

  • @irvintustin2243
    @irvintustin2243 11 років тому

    One of the biggest letdowns in recent dunk contests is the fact that the cameras are TERRIBLE. There's absolutely no sense of distance or speed when all you do is focus and zoom on the dunker or have the camera follow him from behind, step by step. The camera needs to be from the side and not zoomed in, like in game cameras. That's the best way to maximize the impact of the dunk. Then for the replays they can go to those alternate flashy cameras/slow mos. But not for the initial view.

  • @crunchshark87
    @crunchshark87 11 років тому

    There is not 1 dunker going up against him that can bang heaters like he can on there first trys. Dude rarely takes a second chance at his dunks. Hes a pure form dunker, with amazing style, and a WOW Factor that if found by the Gambler in a storage unit will force push him out of it and onto the wall in hallway. James White is going to shatter a fucking backboard. I wish he would come out with a sugar glass BB just to shatter that shit and show them! Number fucking 4 for president!

  • @phlawedpoker
    @phlawedpoker 12 років тому

    You keep calling me a fool but you are not backing it up in any way. I just outlined my argument. You have not shown 1 reason why Howard would be better than Chandler. Chandler showed last year he can be one of the best pick and roll centers. He is a nightly double double. DPOY and DOMINATED Howard in EVERY game last year. 12pts 5rbs +/- -31 & 8pts 8rbs +/- -9sound familiar. Those were howards stats against Chandler while Chandler put up +/- +22 & +4 each of those games. Howard better again how?

  • @goemz12
    @goemz12 12 років тому

    no because howard is the best center in the game!!! chandler is not a player that makes his team better, he helps the team defend but thats it. if chandler was that good he would of had the knicks in the top of the east. howard make people look better than they really are because, he demand so much attention and it gets his teammates open for 3 and what do the knicks have three point shooters. howard is also a better defender,rebounder, and could contribute in the offensive

  • @phlawedpoker
    @phlawedpoker 12 років тому

    Howard 0 leadership Chandler one of the best in the game. Howard self centered Chandler all about making team better. Howard is no doubt more athletic. But, Chandler is glue teammate that keeps everyone together and focused. He did it with the Mavs. Dirk won MVP, but alot of people said you could have made the argument that Chandler was the Most Important Player for the Mavs title run. Howard is a BIG BIG GAMBLE. He is the Terrell Owens of the NBA.

    So because he's old, Kidd's experience won't be a help to the team whatsoever? Lin can go to the Rockets and another PG will take his place and be taught by Kidd. I think it would be foolish for Lin NOT to sign with the Knicks because Houston dropped him before and now they want him back because they have no PGs. Shump will be just fine when he comes back so I'm not worried about him.

  • @PhyuckYiu2
    @PhyuckYiu2 12 років тому

    "With Kidd's help Lin and Shump can be future all stars" I fail to see the hilarity in that. Steve Nash helped Dragic and he's a beast. I didn't see Griffin being an All Star either but look where he is. Things can change in a few years so you never know. Melo can't lead a team. That's obvious and I never said he could either. Lin made the All Star kick off just from a few games. Don't think Stern won't make that happen for some extra promo and money.

  • @SCRex0472
    @SCRex0472 13 років тому

    @WutRLoo I'm sorry dude, best you tell from this angle he was still well in front of the free throw line...I know that many "free throw line" dunks had feet on line, but this isn't one of them...we will agree to disagree at best. I stick with my statement that there is no "free throw line, between the legs" dunk on this video...great dunk, but 6" or a foot is the difference between being able to dunk or not...it is massive whit this kind of dunk...people exaggerate...this video is proof for me

  • @SCRex0472
    @SCRex0472 13 років тому

    @WutRLoo "James White does a between his legs dunk from the free throw line." I think the universal idea of dunking from the free throw line means on or behind the line, not 1-2 feet in front...nice try! He went between his legs from well inside the free throw line...at no point in this video did he dunk from behind or even on the free throw line between his legs...Still an awesome dunk for a guy playing in Europe...My English is just fine,,,take your weak ass argument elsewhere.

  • @WutRLoo
    @WutRLoo 13 років тому

    @SCRex0472 Uhmm, maybe your understanding of the English language is flawed but your previous statements is different from your present one. You stated that "he didn't go between his legs..." which does not mean he had to go between the leg and dunk from the free throw line. Let us set that aside for a moment, I do not see anywhere where it mentions that James White dunked from behind the free throw line. The title clearly states that he dunked from the free throw which is true statement.

    Yeah I know. His agent is also trying to make sure Lin gets the biggest contract so he can bank off of Lin. I want Jeremy to come back because it seems the Front Office actually gives a shit about the direction the team is going. If the team's focused and have great chemistry, they'll be in the Playoffs again. We'll see how far they can go.

    because i wanted to see who guy is??? i do like melo but something i feel he is not a player to lead a team to a championship!! you made me laugh when yo said lin and shump future all-stars. even though i like shumpert because i compared my game to him because of his ability to play defend but i dont see him being a allstar just very good player. in other hand lin he is a joke!!

    39 year old point guard, is not going to solve their problems, the knicks need to amnesty stat because him and melo do not play well together if i was them ill try to convince howard to come to the knicks and get more people dedicated to defends.melo needs to learn and study how lebron change his game and improve it help him get the title.

    @Teeko89 Notice I said MJ's free throw line dunk from 1988, your video is a free throw line dunk from 1985. His famous "Free throw line dunk" and the dunk that everyone remembers is the one from 1988 where he double pumped the ball then dunked it. I do agree that his 1985 dunk was actually from behind the free throw line.

If Vince Carter did the contest next year he would not be able to do the amazing dunks that he used to. Would people say Vince choked?

  • @BlackDynamite1983
    @BlackDynamite1983 11 років тому

    Why wouldn't he be hyped? This was the first time in his career that he was able to participate in the contest. And as far as him being overrated goes I think people were living in the past. They thought he was somehow gonna turn the clock back a couple years and be the guy he use to be.
