  • The MQ-4C Triton is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Northrop Grumman for the United States Navy. It is designed for high-altitude, long-endurance surveillance missions, particularly in maritime environments. The Triton is a key part of the U.S. Navy's Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) program and serves as a complement to the manned P-8 Poseidon aircraft.

    After my last deployment, drone's took over and ended the middle east war. Thee enemy just gave up, and it saved hundreds of our Military lives. Drones were one of the reasons we pulled out of IRQ. and AFG. They are truly the silent killers that win wars.
    Thanks for a great and true episode.

      Military strength is no substitute for diplomacy. Isreal, case in point.
      Use military to replace diplomacy? Then you are just committing war crimes left and right.
      Next thing to look out for are those trigger-happy, why-waste-our-cool-toys, war-nuts getting elected.
      For any kind of "super advanced" conventional weapons, there is always a counter - nukes, submarine nukes. So keep the cool.
      Put the toys back in the pockets. Those toys are only good for bullying those that don't have nukes.

    Until recently I was the government electrical expert for this platform. It’s had some difficulties in the past but now it should really scare the crap out of the Chinese. There are some other UAV platforms the US Navy is working on that are really amazing. I’m so bummed I’m at the end of my career. For over 40 years I’ve been so excited to get to work cause I’ve gotten to play with some of the coolest toys in the military’s toy box.

      Not to fear-monger, but if you really are an ex-skunkwork -type guy, you really shouldn't post it online.
      I know the chances of you having digital records of the program on your devices is close to nil, but cybersecurity begins with preventing data leaks on the human side - it don't matter how many firewalls you put up if an idiot keeps his password posted on a sticky note next to their PC or plugs random flashdrives into the damn thing.
      Keep that shit locked tight and to yourself.

    I was surprised no one had brought up the Iranian incident, but someone did; Iranians make a big deal out of the downing of a slow, clumsy drone.
    But, having said that and what’s going on in Ukraine, it’s an eye opener to show how vulnerable this drones are to enemy fire, whether AAA, SAMs or airborne fired missiles.

    This should be made capable of launching from and landing on aircraft carriers. Also, put mid-air refueling probes on it.

    • @michaeljorgensen790
      @michaeljorgensen790 8 місяців тому

      No. It should most definitely not be made capable of landing and launching on any current aircraft carrier.
      The wingspan of a C2 Greyhound of 81 feet is about as large of a wingspan that could safely do that.
      This has a 130 foot wingspan.
      A new design of a carrier without a command "island" would work but it will probably be decades before we see that...because it is a good idea.
      Mid-air refueling is kind of a good idea but it already has a ridiculously long range compared to other planes, so the probe would cause less range to the point that the benefit tradeoff is not worth it.

      I have no inside info, but it's safe to assume that every US military aircraft can get itself where it's going, and back home, without interacting with any satellites, including GPS. Autonomous inertial navigation using laser ring gyros have been around for about 40 years. I'm not saying there's not a chance of a software screwup where the INS is updated with spoofed GPS data, but because it's been a problem, it's probably a problem that's been fixed.
      As to using satellites to send the surveillance data, that's just one data path, and if someone knocks out even two of our satellites, much less all of them, we will know who they are before they get them all. It's really only an all-out WWIII scenario where these are more affected by electronic threats than by simply being shot down, and in that scenario, we'll have no shortage of known targets not needing updated surveillance.

      Many business jets are larger, except for this thing's long, skinny wings to keep it aloft for 30 hours. It is a Navy aircraft, and there just aren't that many SAM sites floating around trying to shoot it down over the ocean. Over land, it is vulnerable, but so is everything else. A big deterrent is who owns it. Not many countries actually want to go to war with the US, even if they wish they could.

    It seems to have a lot of empty spaces. It also has way too many bulges and probably causes some drag. If you streamline it, it would be smaller (smaller radar cross-section), more aerodynamic, which would make it more fuel efficient, less detectable. If you are going to go with wide wing span, maybe you could go with a stealth bomber type layout.

    Hello, exactly 2 years ago over the Persian Gulf, the Iranian Navy shot down this 7 million dollar drone، Unfortunately, this drone is no longer worth conducting military operations against advanced countries😊

    • @EfficientRVer
      @EfficientRVer 3 місяці тому

      I'd say that Russia is more advanced than Iran, and these routinely conduct surveillance over the Black Sea against Russian interests, without too much worry of being shot down. Some fly from Italy, some fly from the USA and return home without refueling. Shooting one down is not a huge accomplishment, it is like shooting down a very slow private jet at high altitude. But it is also true that shooting one down does carry a big risk of consequences. The US does not need to go to war against a country over losing one aircraft, or 10 aircraft. But they could if they wanted to. It is a game of Russian Roulette. You can get away with small consequences sometimes, you are suddenly dead sometimes. Playing the game is not smart. Continuing to play the game many times, is even less smart.
      There are not many games Putin is afraid to play. Maybe it is not out of fear, but just out of understanding game theory, being from the land of many chess grandmasters, that he chooses not to make a bad move like Iran made, even if Iran got away with it.

    Is the the type of Drone used to count how many homeless people live in San Francisco? or in LA? or in Atlanta? or in New York? I mean, that's gotta be keeping a REALLY good count so that the US government can help take care of them... right?.... right?

    Mere show-off of US's tech is enough to petrify China. India also needs to accelerate its efforts in developing its local defence industry. We need to learn from US.
