This is one of the most beautiful melodies of all time. My life is better because now I know how to play it, thanks to you. You have changed my life for the better. I hope you read this and feel better about yours, because your work is valued.
Really appreciate you uploading this for free. I played jazz guitar for many years, recorded albums, traveled... then I had kids and hadn't played for a decade. I've started playing again, and all I want to learn is Christmas songs to play for my family at Christmas, so these videos have been super helpful, and saved me a ton of time.
Thanks @SquirrilahFish. I put a huge amount of time and effort into making these videos. I like to keep them free for those that can't afford it, but if you can, please support what I do. Cheers, Andy www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html
Excellent tutorial! I have been playing guitar for over 55 years and needed a song to play this weekend for a dinner and program. Wow, you really play well, very inspirational. Thanks for giving us all a fantastic lesson, which I will be performing your version in two days! Thanks again...
Wow dude, just amazing. Im 42 and been playing since i was about 12, just getting heavy back into it this christmas season and this is one of my faves, and you did an amazing job
If, like me, you are struggling to learn "I Saw Three Ships," the tabs are super helpful. I'm about half way through the song and should be ready in time for Christmas.
Man obviously your channel has some awesome lessons but these Christmas ones are where you really shine imo. Awesome work as always. Great formula to the videos.
Andy, thank you so much you are the best guitar teacher I've ever seen in my life and I want to tell you how much I appreciate learning from you you are the greatest. Kirk VZ
Hello. I just found your channel here and your amazing lesson`s. You really are an inspiration. So talented. I have practise the hole day Led Zeppelin Rain song and Kashmir. My fingers don`t work anymore. It`s good to go to work tomorrow and rest them a little. Keep on going the great work. It is really a pleasure to follow your playing and learn from you. Big hugs from Finland/Mike
Very beautiful arrangement.... Andy .I love the Christmas songs. ... I will donate soon. You do such a wonderful job...and your teaching method is very doable.!!! ...Robert lee!!
Hi! In USSR my mam play me this on piano. The song was named (direct translation): "And my woodchunck with me". In Russian: "И мой сурок со мною". The fact is that this music was written by Beethoven(in 1790) for Goethe's lyrics (in 1773).
Sorry, bud, and I know I’ll probably regret responding to your trollery, but Greensleeves was written in Tudor England- 1580 something-ish. Henry the 8th, who apparently was a pretty good musician and an accomplished composer in between lopping off spousal heads, has sometimes been credited with writing it, although more recently I think it’s mostly regarded as one of those trad/anon tunes.
Hi Andy. Heard you're not doing too great at the moment. Hope to have you back in the saddle soon. You are a fine teacher and such pleasant company of an evening when the family are away to bed and I can get my guitar out. Wishing you good health sir. Oh and I made a donation too yesterday. Everyone should if they are getting something from these tutorials. C'mon loyal subscribers! If Andy can't work just now he can't earn so I'm sure even the smallest of donations would be welcome
Lol...That was the first song I learned play. It was for my 6th grade Christmas program. I'm certain it sounded nothing like this and I made a mistake that still bugs me. I knew it as Greensleaves. The only other Xmas song I like is "Mary did you know" & I'm missing something. I'd like your take on it if time permits. Thanks (Not That D.G)
Greensleeves is the title I have on sheet music and is a traditional melody that goes way way back. According to a music historian talk that I once listened to, the melody goes back to a time when a visit to a prostitute might have included listening to her music or poetry. And if that visit took place on a green field then one might depart with green-stained coat sleeves. If true, incredibly ironic and strange that the melody was adopted as a Christmas hymn.
I'd be interested in seeing a lesson on a less familiar song by Blue Oyster Cult called I Love the Night from their Spectre's album. I appreciate your diversity in song/lesson material. From Scorpion's, to old Fleetwood Mac to Christmas music. Great guitar site.
So i know that Christmas is what everyone jumps to immediately after Halloween but could we get some Thanksgiving love? I'd love to see a breakdown of Alice's restaurant!
Can you reach out to me.I have a project that I would like to know if you would be interested in? Also, My father eyes live version by Clapton…Can you pull that off? Thanks in advance.
Yep. The lyric was written way back in 1865 by William Chatterton Dix. In 1871 it was set to the tune of Greensleeves, a traditional folk song from 1580.
You should post some acoustic covers of songs. I feel like there’s a huge demand for some solo acoustic stuff that one can listen to for a few minutes at a time. The acoustician is really good at this, but stopped posting anything…

Man, really enthusiastic about your videos. Would you ever consider doing the electric guitar part from Aguas de Março (Waters of March)?
Love this tutorials. If its to much asking, I will love learn heaven on a Sunday by Paul McCartney. If time allows you . thanks

I had learned this with the very basic melody line. This was a beautiful arrangement with just enough embellishments. Great job!!
Man obviously your channel has some awesome lessons but these Christmas ones are where you really shine imo. Awesome work as always. Great formula to the videos.

I don't know why but for some reason I thought relying on tabs was too "beginner" for me, but man it sure sped up the process for learning this song.

Great arrangement !
Can definitely handle this, Thank You!
Gorgeous!
So good!
Day one of asking for another Peace of Mind tutorial 😊
This is great!
Outstanding! Please tell me what reverb you're using. I love the tone of your Taylor in this mix!
Beautiful, well done! I am still hoping for "O Holy Night" though.
Well done 👍
you should do Morning Moon by The Hip. A Great Tune
Great lesson as always. A little request here. Wond'ring Aloud from Jethro Tull. Greetings from Argentina
It also uses the capo in the fourth fret
i think
I think this tune is _much_ older as "Greensleeves" from medieval times at least, but this is still a beautiful version. Thank you for sharing it!

I also know it as Greensleeves

Thanks for the tips and technics. Could you pls post a video on Brothers in arms by Mark Knopfler.
Awesome

Very nice! Could you consider a tutorial on Minstrel Hall/ Blackmore’s Night some day?
I feel like Light of The Seven from Game of Thrones was inspired by this slightly. Like at 1:13 it sounds very similar
Could you do a lesson on New Kid in Town by the Eagles? Or any eagles song for that matter. They are my favorite band!
What a difference reverb adds to the music. Did you use any echo?
can you do the cover of "the dimming of the day", done by David gilmour, live.
So i know that Christmas is what everyone jumps to immediately after Halloween but could we get some Thanksgiving love? I'd love to see a breakdown of Alice's restaurant!
I always loved this song. For some reason it reminds me of Greensleeves.
That is fingerstyle version.
Would you do the fingerpicking version to accompany vocal (singing) ?
Something I've always wanted to ask, Do you take request?
Is that also called Green Sleeves?
This melody is originally Italian, a very old Italian melody, but cool, you all gave it to Christmas 🎄. Enjoy.
Could you please do Christmas Time is Here Again by The Beatles?
What do you use for effects?
Always thought it was Green Sleeves
what is that effect pedal?
Green Sleeves as well 🙂
Bro you’re making amazing things but please add tabs! It will be very useful !
www.shutupandplay.ca/christmas-tabs--album.html
I thought that green sleeves, my watch played that as a wean in the 70s
Can you reach out to me.I have a project that I would like to know if you would be interested in?
Also, My father eyes live version by Clapton…Can you pull that off? Thanks in advance.
What key is this in
Would be so nice if the fingerings were spelled out. I am severely visually impaired and can’t see the video or use the Tabs.
It's the same tune as Greensleeves but different words.
AKA "Greensleeves"
Can you show the tabs?
You can buy my Christmas tabs here: www.shutupandplay.ca/christmas-tabs--album.html Cheers, Andy.
Jesus is TRUTH
Sure! It is! Greensleeves indeed!
Great lesson.....however different angles of what you are playing would be helpful.... It would be worth a surcharge to me.
👍💐👌
Isn't this song Greensleves?
Yep. The lyric was written way back in 1865 by William Chatterton Dix. In 1871 it was set to the tune of Greensleeves, a traditional folk song from 1580.
Greeensleeves?
Greensleeves as well!
Green sleeves has different chords even in the same key
@@gumbyshrimp2606 incorrect. The progression is from Greensleeves. W.C. Dix set it to Greensleeves.
Green sleeves
And the ending is the beginning of “wanted dead or alive” by Bon Jovi. 😜
🤠

no longer has a website. don't see it
