Great video. I unfortunately had to deal with aphids on my Purple Magic Crape Myrtle, which also brought ants surrounding the buds. They caused the deep purple flowers to become a very light purple. I used a bug spray that wasn’t harmful to plants and my Crapes are beautiful and healthy as ever.

El segundo lo compre en un local nursery ya crecido como un pie de alto. Los sembré en Septiembre, pero no fertilicé. Cuando los debería fertilizar?

I am so glad to have discovered your channel! I've just cleared out a 20'x4' flower bed next t my home's foundation, and I'm trying to get ideas about how to make it look noce. One thing I've thought about is adding a crape myrtle to the yard, but people say that since we have had upper 90° temps here in central Arkansas, that I should wait til fall to plant. They tell me I should use a root boost additive, and that this is a bad time of the year to encourage rapid root growth. Is there any truth to that? Thanks for such great information. You make this stuff look easy!
+Melanie Wallace Just cut it back when you plant it. I did a crape myrtle planting video earlier this week. It was 90 out when I shot it. Do these projects when you are motivated and not when the stars align. Good luck
I bought such a plant as your showing this past Summer and it bloomed for me. I had to temporary planted it in my small garden, in the sun, but my intentions were to remove it this coming Spring '21 into a 21"" dia container and about 1' 1/2 depth. Would it succeed in such container? I live in NYC, so there is winter to consider.
I love your informative videos Jim! I purchased what I think is a Purple Magic Crape Myrtle a month ago (green and (mis)labeled as a Delta Jazz at a big box store). It was beautiful and I planted it in 5 hours of sun at 9am-2pm in my zone 7 garden. A month later, the leaves are turning yellow/red. I've removed those leaves and suspect it's leaf spot. Also a bit of powdery mildew on some seed pods which I removed too. We've had a very wet summer here, raining several times in a week! Should I relocate it to a sunnier position? I live on the edge of the forest so there's not a lot of full sun areas on my property.
+Against all odds It really needs to get dried off quickly in the morning. If it were me I would see it leaf out in the spring first. It may just have some transplant shock
HortTube with Jim Putnam Thank you for your reply. I hope it is just transplant shock. I notice it's getting less direct sun now a month later now that the sun is lower in the sky and tall trees surround the property. Was 5 1/2 and now I see it's actually closer to 4 1/2.
I just got me a 2 footer Purple magic here in zone 7. I also have a 20 footer for over 31 years, which it blooms every year around the last 2 weeks of July, this month now. But this is my first dwarf c m and i was planning on potting it into a 22'' inch front yard container, but concerned that it might not be the right size container. Its 2 feet deep. I get over 6 hours of mid morning sun start. ..what say, you? Thanks for any help u can provide.

That's not purple, if the color in your video is accurate. It's MAGENTA. Marketers are trying to sell to a market segment who want or need a color which that plant's blooms are NOT. Actually, a video comparing the various red-violets and true purples available in Crape Myrtles (and Crape MyrtlETTES) would be a great thing.
This one is about as purple as crape myrtles get. The color is really changeable in the containers. The fertilizer, the amount of sun it is getting. Kinda wild actually. I can leave a red crape myrtle in the dark for twenty four hours and they turn white.
I have one of these and it is indeed purple.
Deer eat the devil out of crape myrtles!
