- We're watchin' Marvel Studios Moon Knight Episode 1 The Goldfish Problem!
It's finally here!!! If feels like we waited forever for this to come out and then it was here and the MCU did not disappoint. Oscar Isaac is so amazing in this series!! We are hooked after one episode. We have no idea what to expect from this series and we love it!
We've watched this episode multiple times and have some crazy theories.
1. Marc/Steven was an Egyptian God that got rejected from the Field of Reeds
2. Ammit is Marc/Steven's moms. Here us out: no one is on the other line when he calls his "mom" and he always says "later gators" What is Ammit's head? A gator!
3. Arthur is Ammit's avatar and he is collecting souls to bring her back.

The sooner all these MCU projects are able to utilise the new Stagecraft/Volume Tech instead of traditional green screen the better! A museum in Central London would have significantly more staff! 🌙
I hope in Episode 2 they show the butt whupping Marc laid down. Because that monster went from “Hear me roar” to “Somebody help me.” in seconds. 😂🤣
Mystery, horror, psychological and action nice flavor in this new series.
Steven/Marc has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), formally known as Multiple Personality Disorder, and here is what D.I.D is. Patients have 'alters' who come forth, most often when the person or host is in (what they perceive to be) distress. It usually develops as a result of extreme, sustained trauma. The alters act as a container of sorts to keep the thoughts, feelings, pain etc. of the trauma from being experienced by the primary person/Host.
The jump cuts in this episode represent the loss of time that many patients experience because an alter other than the main personality has been at the forefront.
Some goals of treatment can be: process the trauma so as to stop the harm that occurs when patients re-experience everything associated with it (the thoughts, feelings etc. I mentioned above), adopting the use of grounding techniques to try to remain 'present' and decrease the 'loss' of time, and possible integration of alters. That being said, because the alters 'hold' the negative repercussions r/t to the trauma, integration on some level does occur when the trauma is processed by the main person. the alters do have real memories and they are also real people.
This was a good way of showing how involuntary alter changes are. For what I know about DiD, you can really lose days even when one of you alters decides to front. Seems Steven is a fairly new-ish alter so whatever happened to Marc to make Steven take over for so long must’ve pretty large trauma (which alters are born/created which is through Massive trauma). I appreciate the fact they (the host and alters) Haven’t made an “Evil” alter yet. Again DiD is about managing trauma not causing it. Yes, some alters (known as Protecters) can be rougher on the outside ( aka in front while the host is in the mind). But, never straight-up causing problems on purpose only to protect the host and the other alters. And Marc is the host as for Steven he is the one who is the most out aka in front so he can have some social life

Oscar Isaac is amazing in this! He became a name to most in the last Star Wars Trilogy, but he's the main character now. I love when actors become MCU super heroes or any character for that matter. So many of them can run into each other at awards events and greet each other by their superhero name lol He can legit walk up to Tom Holland and say,
"Hello Spider-Man."
"Oh! Yes, you're Moon Knight! Your British accent is brilliant!"
"So is your American accent."

🌙 Great Reaction Ladies! All I'm going to say is what Kevin Feige says when he gets asked something he doesn't want to answer in an interview "All will be revealed". I think it is great how we are being introduced to a whole new Pantheon of Gods. We have the Asgardians and the Eternals who were worshipped as gods to date. Marvel Studios (MCU proper not "Associated with Marvel") is doing a lot of world building with this series. I wouldn't try to hard to connect it with what you have seen before. Enjoy the Journey!🌙

The first episode was amazing.. the terror/mystery throughout had me hooked. The only other time I got into Egyptology was '99 The Mummy, so watching this is awesome.. didn't think they'll show him in full costume on the first episode, but when it showed, that applause was well deserved.. 🌙
Without spoiling anything, that part at the end where the monster is clawing at the tiles and trying to run away, and He's like, "Oh he'll no, I didn't say you could leave yet, c'mon, you're the one that picked this fight " That is definitely accurate to Moon Knight's character

Another excellent reaction ladies. Remember the walk Steven did when he marched away which the manner in which Khonshu the moon god walked when he approached. In addition, it was Khonshu calling Steven a parasite while speaking to Marc. If you liked the costume take another look, it is the embodiment of Khonshu. You ladies are in for a wild ride and yes as Moon Knight was introduced in a comic featuring Marvel Comics’ wolfman, it definitely falls under horror. By the was the wolfman’s name if Jack Russell. 🌙

The one who calls Steven "parasite" is Konshu, the egipcian Moon God in Marvel, also Marc is the main personality so technically yes, Steven is kind of a parasite

Awesome first episode. Moon Knight fan since 1993. The visuals in this episode were glorious. I'm digging the Fight Club, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, The Mummy, Jacob's Ladder, Spawn, Donnie Darko, and Shutter Island vibes from this show. Seeing Khnoshu was creeping and awesome at the same time. The head voice in Steven's head was Khonshu.

I said the same. They covered so much in this episode and didn’t start off slow at all.
Loved that the opening scenes showed how Harrow and Steven start their days. One torturing himself and the other being tortured by his DID.

I love y'all's reaction. The ancient entity is an Egyptian god called Kahchu ( that spelling may be incorrect) . Mark is a mercenary who Kanhchu attached himself to. Steven is Mark's other identity. Yes,he has that associative personality disorder..split personality. In the comics I read he has about 4 or 5 personalities, while I think in the MCU they'll keep this more simple.
Yes,I think Steven isn't really talking to his mother. He's just leaving voice messages that he thinks she'll get,but I'm like you . I think she's dead.

Ammit is a goddess that worked in tandem with Anubis in determining the fates of souls in the afterlife. Anubis prepares the bodies, and weighs the hearts of the deceased against the feather of truth. If the heart is lighter than the feather, the souls pass on to the afterlife unhindered. If the heart is heavier, it was a sure sign of evil, and Ammit devours the hearts of evildoers.
Ammit was portrayed as having the head of a crocodile, the front legs of a lion, and the back half of a hippo. If you look closely at the cane and the tattoo on Arthur Harrow's arm, twin crocodile heads are marked on both of them.

Marc is his real name Marc Spector in the comics he is American Jewish from Jewish who went from a boxer, soldier, C.I.A Agent and Mercenary who came back from the dead by the Egyptian Moon god named khonshu ( the one you guys saw from the elevator scene the big mummy) to become avatar of vengeance Moon knight/Mr.Knight ,Marc also worship him ,He suffered multiple personalities disorder his alter egos are jake lockley the cab driver and Steven Grant a billionaire entrepreneur (not a gift shop)
In the comics,Marc's mother died giving birth to his younger brother Randall Spector
As someone who hasn't read the comics, but knows of the character, I have no idea where this show is heading towards. By making Steven the main personality over Marc, they've already taken a huge departure from the comics. But I will say that Steven suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder. That's not a spoiler, as they've used the "accurate" depiction of the disorder as part of the marketing campaign.
Not a departure. In his first series he is Steven Grant most of the time. He uses the Jake identity to blend in and get info. His girlfriend called him Steven and his pilot called him Marc. The Moon Knight identity fought crime. We did not know if Khonshu was real are not. The pressure of living multiple lives got to him and at one point he had a breakdown.
Great reaction to the first episode! Marvel did good, I am invested in the show as well. Let's see what next Wednesday brings the moon man 🌙

Hey, great reaction as always you three! Did y'all catch the sand under his bed to check for footprints that he left? I didn't get it til later but loved that detail. Also, I think that the new fish might have been bc the original died while he was away so Marc tried to replace it. I kinda wish Steven would've found the original in the toilet or somethin after eating all that steak and realizing somethin's fishy. 😂
And, like Amber said, Im hoping we don't get too many flashes to "censor" the violence. Definitely wanna see that, so maybe we'll actually get Marc's perspective of it? To fill in the gaps from all the time jumps.
Also I'm interested in learning who's the "original?" Like what if Marc developed Steven as a cover to disguise himself? So many questions! You guys have some really good theories too :)

Theory #1: I think this is interesting especially since that little girl said what she said.
Theory #2: I have an alternate idea: Marc set up the "Mum" phone number so he can track Steven's activities. Helps him keep track of anything he may have missed while Steven was in control. I like your theory too... excited to see what the final answer is.
Theory #3: I know nothing about this comic but I like this theory. Arthur Harrow makes me think of David Koresh, the kool-aid drinking cult leader from Waco, TX.
Also - something in my gut is saying that Gold Street Performer/Part-Time Therapist for Steven guy has a plot twist in the last 3 episodes. I have no proof, just a tug in my gut. I might be completely wrong though.
Also - that moment Amber leaned over trying to look around to see something in the back or around the corner!! LOLOLOL I do the same thing! 🤣

Great reaction and so glad that you guys are watching this show! I love the feel, look and ambiance of it. I also love how diverse the Marvel universe is; matching the theme with actors, directors and producers that have a common bond with the subject matter.
When I transitioned from first shift to a weird late second early third shift schedule, I got disoriented on the day of the week. That's when I realize we actually don't check the day regularly as we kind of keep a mental track. So, if you factor in Donna changed Steven's schedule as punishment for being late, with Steven thinking it was all a dream(insert best Biggie voice). It's not unreasonable for him to assume it's Friday.
I agree. My people know I very rarely know what day of the week it is. I just mentally keep track of how many days I’ve been to work and that usually gets me right. 🤣🤣 - Amber
It's Definitely going to be interesting how this ancient Egyptian storyline bridges over into both the XMen, the Eternals and this brief "Werewolf By Night" mythos-and finally Blade. The various synapses of the mind are exposed through the Metaverse in combining both certain future technologies and metaphysical (hidden) ancient sciences.

It's not a symbiote power Marc has split personality disorder Steven is just another personality that marc has and the voice who sound like venom is Konshu the Egyptian god of the moon he's the big bird white headed skull mummy Konshu is the one who gives Marc his power.

I wish I hadn't known anything going into this, so I won't spoil it. I'll just say that, as someone who knows what's going on, I love how they're depicting it. Probably the best episode one of any Disney+ Marvel series yet.

I’m so glad you went into this blind…
One of the worst things that some reactors do is look up the character beforehand. Reactors always say “we’re going into this blind but we did some research on the character…” lol at that point you aren’t really going in blind anymore.
So many reactors “looked up” Moon Knight before reacting to episode 1 and it’s kind of ruined a lot of reactions. You’ll see reactors calling out characters like “oh look! That must be Khonshu!” And they make it anti-climatic for others.

I’m sure somebody might’ve mentioned it already but my two favorite things about this episode are that everything you see him doing when he wakes up in the morning is literally textbook for people with severe sleep roaming problems and are all literally tried and true methods people of used to hold themselves accountable when they can’t be held accountable for what they do when they’re asleep. The second thing is the glass and the shoes is actually some thing done as an act of contrition. It’s like when Paul Bethany whipped himself in the da Vinci code if you’ve ever seen that. You’re literally giving a payment to your God in blood as recompense for whatever sins you may commit or have committed.

I promise not to blabber about the comics, but the good thing is they're carving their own path. Moon Knight's been portrayed so many different ways, even if those of us who have read a lot of the comics can't predict how the series is going to go.
I'm having so much fun, though. Can't wait til next week.
