This is one hell of a film! Hits a lot of emotions. When Matthew does his final speech in the court room...it gets to ya. I tear up when Samuel at the end comes out of courthouse, sees his daughter and they both run to each other...think that is so beautiful. I adore this film.

If you liked Ashley Judd, you would love her in Double Jeopardy. I always thought it was her best lead role while her supporting role in Where The Heart Is was just was amazing as Natalie Portman in the lead.

This was actually filmed in my hometown, Canton, Mississippi. It was an important city during the civil war, and the civil rights fight. Regarding the comment by the NAACP rep, Mississippi has a long history of whites not even being tried for murders they committed against blacks...even though everyone in town knows who did it.

I’m from Ohio and me my family moved to Leland, Mississippi, outside of Greenville from 2001-2005, we left like 3-4 months before Katrina hit. Leland was so segregated for a small town, none of the black kids could go over the train tracks at night that led towards Greenville. We had to have adult supervision. Now the ppl were always nice and hospitable but there was still a clear racial divide

When Carl Lee says that "if i were white, i wouldn't even be here [in jail]" refers to the point that in certain areas of the country, especially during a certain time, Black Men could be "disappeared" and deleted for little or no reason and with no consequences. As pointed out in the movie, there was often law enforcement who were also in the K^3. The boys in the beginning believed based on their experience that they would probably get off easy. When Carl Lee first approached Jake, he used the story of other boys getting off, to not only alert Jake that he believed the criminals would get off, but also to imply to Jake that he intended for him to use his privilege to get him off.

What town? In the USA...all of them. I was born in Talladega County Alabama and the KKK is everywhere in the South. I now live in IL/WI and the clan is alive and well in Winthrop Harbor, Il. and all throughout Wisconsin. Many in the police departments here never miss a klan meeting.
The man didn't mean that Carl wouldn't have been punished, but he was saying that the D.A. would have given him a deal that took in account his mental state and he would have been given parole or something similar. They want to give him the death because a black man killed white men and not for any other reason than that. So many cases in the South where it was the opposite and nothing happened. Not one single thing. Carl killed them because nothing was going to happen to the men who raped and tried to kill his 9 year old daughter. Nothing. They were going to let those men go so why can't Carl go too. That is because a Black man killed 2 white men and in the South that is never going to be tolerated; justified or not.

I guess you guys have not seen THE BEAR, or GAME OF THRONES since you didn't seem to recognize those faces. I guess you are too young to recognize Donald and his son Kiefer as well. We got to get you caught up lol. In the South we love Peach Cobbler. So yeah it's a must have.

Final comment, I swear. I love you guys. You're so funny and smart, and I loved how DON'T DO IT when it looked like he might cheat. Also, Rowark was totally trying to tempt him, which is uncool. Thanks again!

First off great movie. Secondly, it wasn’t the tension of the time this was in the late 80s early 90s. They made it look like it was the 60s. I know people love that narrative but it’s not true. And the ending closing argument which is supposed to be so profound is disgustingly offensive. Basically he was telling us the viewers and the people in the jury that they would think about it differently if the little girl was white. That’s not true at all. We all got sick watching those two pieces of garbage attack that little angel and we didn’t even consider the color. But again we just love this victim narrative we don’t like to accept progress. We like to pretend like it’s still 1960 when it comes to race relations And sexism but it’s not we’ve come a long way. We need to move forward ironically progressives will not accept or acknowledge progress because they love the old narrative because it makes them feel young the same way stranger things dead it’s a time. Remember, it’s a time long ago. Nobody would have put up with that kind of behavior at that time. We were all worshiping Black people rap was at the top actors comedians all all of it. I know we like to pretend like we are this horrible racist country so that we can ignore the behavior of certain groups of people and always blame it on somebody else but it’s some point. It’s your fault nobody else’s.bring shame back. Bring the fathers back stop having separate rules for different people. Stop with the soft bigotry of low expectations. Stop treating certain people as if they are less than and are not capable of the same things as the rest of us that’s the true racism.

You realize Democrats are the party of Slavery, The KKK and Jim Crow. LBJ said while signing the Welfare act and the Great Societies act "I'll have these N*****s voting Democrat for the next 200 years." And they're still bigots opposing voter ID saying minorities are too poor, ignorant or illiterate to get a free state ID that every citizen of the country has.

Hey, guys. Peach Cobbler is a Southern favorite, whatever color one's skin is. And why always PEACH Cobbler? Because we have extra juicy, plump, flavorful peaches in the South.🧡🍑🥰🫓🥧

Such a good movie but definitely made me cry in a few parts.
I love that they show different sides & views. The acting and directing is great.
If you do want to see another great court movie, you should watch Runaway Jury (2003) wiith John Cusack, Rachel Weisz, and Dustan Hoffman.
It's not as tough to watch as this but very well done and also based on the novel by John Grisham (who wrote A Time to Kill). It's one of the few times I'll say I love the movie more than the book.

Prison isn’t supposed to be for rehabilitation, it’s about deterrence, choice retribution and public safety. Where’d you go to law school?
