Fiona 🐿️ 'STICK TIME' 🥢 Are Jackie & Shadow Building a New Nest? 😍🦅🦅Birds of Interest, 15th-18th May
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 тра 2024
- Video footage courtesy of @FOBBVCAM
Shadow visits the nest with a stick and fluff. Both Jackie and Shadow spend a lot of time in the Stick Depot Snag (SDS) where they keep bringing new sticks.
Are they building a new nest? It looks like it but probably they aren't, though. They treat the Stick Depot Snag as their second home and tend to bring sticks there but also take sticks from there to their main nest. In October, they will come back to their main nest to start real nestoration works.
In this video, you'll also see FIONA (the Flying Squirrel) and some bird visitors the well-known from previous videos, Mountain Chickadee visiting the nest a few times and a swallow. There will also be a Cooper's Hawk sitting for a while next to Jackie and Shadow in SDS.
Enjoy! ❤️🥰

I hope they pay and build a new nest a new season for a new llife for them .
Thank you may GOD bless them always Amen 🙏 ❤❤❤
@user-ix5pl4et9q Thanks a lot for your nice comment! Let's hope Jackie and Shadow will have a great next breeding season with healthy chicks. Have a great day! 🧡❤😍🥰
They have made it bigger looks awsome♥️♥️🦅🦅♥️♥️🕊️✨🕊️✨
@user-vn5fm8yy6f Yes, the nest is getting bigger and bigger. Thanks a lot for your comment! 🧡❤
Thanks 4 putting this together. I finally got to see Fiona
@cherylreidhammer1919 Thank you very much for watching and for your comment! Yes, Fiona is great! 🐿️❤️❤️😍
That tree looks more exposed to the elements than the last
@cf5053 Yes, it does. I think they'll stay in the old nest for the breeding season. We'll see.
Thanks a lot for your comment! ❤️🥰🦅🦅
Maybe the new nest is for Shadow when Jackie gets mad at him. Kinda like “sleeping on the couch”. 😅
@robynschilthuis1845 What a great idea!🤣❤️😍
Hilarious!!! hahahahaha
Maybe a starter home for Spirit!
🤣
I hope they stay at the old nest in the live Jeffrey Pine. It has a beautiful view of Big Bear Lake. ❤❤❤
@jax-zm1bb Yes, it does. I think that they will breed in the old nest as they did in the previous years. We'll see. Thanks a lot for your nice comment! ❤️❤️❤️🦅🦅
Isn’t that SDS tree dead? It won’t support a 1 ton nest in their winters? I hope not, but maybe they are just having fun! This nest view at BBV is therapy to me. The scenery is so very soothing, even in the winters, they are magnificent birds, luv them!
@@janicebelleisle4427 Yes, it seems to be dead. I think it is their way of bonding and they treat it a little like a summer home or a backup residence. They are more likely to come back to the old nest for the next breeding season like they did in the previous years.
Can’t wait for next season🐣🦅❤️
@@janicebelleisle4427 Me too! ❤❤❤❤🦅🦅
I think it's so cute when these two play house together as a form of bonding. It is highly doubtful that they would really build a nest in a dying/dead tree. But they sure get to flirt and do their thing while they keep their nest building skills up to par at the same time.
@roximama Yes, you are right. This is their form of bonding. ❤️❤️🦅🦅
Thanks a lot for your great comment! 😍🥰
Thank you so much for this little update. Shadow is absolutely a majestic boy!
@denisetowers1820 Thank you very much for your nice comment! Yes, I agree. Shadow is a majestic bird. ❤️❤️🦅🦅🥰😍
@@BirdlifeOdyssey I literally cried when their clutch failed to hatch and Shadow refused to give up. He really teaches us humans a lot of lessons on love, patience and loss.
@@denisetowers1820 Yes, I totally agree. Thanks a lot for your lovely comment! ❤❤❤❤🥰🥰
I could hear that mountain chickadee singing their sweet song thru out the video. Fiona really loves their nest, but then again it appears that many birds are also curious about it. Glad to see Jackie and Shadow looking healthy and happy. Thank you for the update.
@tintadawn2756 Yes, a lot of birds are curious about this nest and try to find something to eat there. Thank you for such a nice comment! ❤️🦅🦅🐿️😍❤️
With all the sticks that are dropping there's probably a pretty good size nest on the ground--with cheap rent!
@user-ri4ee5pn4i Yes, probably there is. 🤣😍🥰❤️
Thanks for showing us some of the other beautiful birds.
@lorettaevans7179 I always show the other birds whenever they appear and I'm glad that you like them. Thanks a lot for your nice comment! ❤😍❤❤
I hope that they don’t build a new nest. I love this nest better! It has a beautiful view and it’s much closer to the camera so we can view them better. Please J & S stay here, don’t move.
@user-ud8hi9mw4n This is the way they bond. It can be their second, backup nest if they finish it but they are most likely to use their main nest for breeding.
So wonderful to see these amazing birds and their nesting activities! Wow! Great video. Love the chickadees and swallows too! Fabulous!
@hucks1000 Thank you very much for all your great comments! I'm really glad that you like my videos! Have a great day! ❤️🥰😍
Beautiful birds and love how Jackie and Shadow bond together ❤️ 💖 💕 💗 ♥️
@user-dl8ki3pq9v Thank you very much for your lovely comment! ❤❤❤❤😍😍
Shadow has been working so hard on building the new nest. They're so very precious. I love them! 💕

Fiona is so cute 💝and I didn't see how flat her tail was before. Can't wait to see her reaction to the new nest!
@sarahmarks7082 Thanks a lot for your nice comment! I agree. Fiona is sooo cute. ❤️❤️🐿️
Just hope flying Fiona doesn’t get eaten
Fiona and her mate live in the same tree as the old nest, just underneath the nest. If Jackie and Shadow are building a new nest on the SDS I doubt that Fiona will ever see it.
@@margretrosenberg420 Yes, they do. However, it is possible that they can visit. They are flying squirrels.

If they are building a new nest in that tree it looks like there are two possible roof rafters above them, maybe Shadow is planning to put a lean to type shed roof over the new nest, enough to give a little protection from the snow, a roof is just another nest type structure above them and the branches will support it 💚🍀🦅🦅💚🥰
@sharon2434 Thanks a lot for your comment! It is interesting how far they will go with the construction works. We'll soon find out. ❤️❤️🦅🦅
Do you think our beautiful birds may lay more eggs. Fiona cracks me up ❤❤❤
@lesleywood76 I would love that but it is not likely because of the short period of Jackie's fertility from January to March.
Yes, Fiona is great! ❤️🐿️
Thanks a lot for your nice comment! ❤️❤️😍🥰🦅🦅
Fantastic and informative compilation
@MaxSchmidl Thank you very much! I'm glad that you like it. ❤️😍🥰🦅🦅
@@BirdlifeOdyssey Could the pair be building another nest to forget about their last clutch failure to thrive? The eggs clearly were not fertilized and she blames him and he blames the nest? It is causing a rift in the relationship? Stay tuned as the world turns. Hmmm.
@@lynnkramer1211 I wondered, too, if the clutch failure led them to instinctively choose a different place to begin again.

So interesting to watch Jackie and Shadow engineer the base of a new nest..I noticed some sticks dropping, but I have no doubt they will produce a sound nest!! Thank you for this look into nature and Bald Eagles, changing locations. I believe the lack of hatches this season contributed to their decision to start anew, somewhere else. Good Luck to them 😍😍 As we can see, the soon-to-be, possibly, former nest will continue to have purpose.... in some way, shape or form!!! Love all the other species!! 🥰

Storing sticks for next restoration of main nest?
@annsmith5625 Good idea! Thanks a lot for your comment! ❤️❤️
Does appear they’re building a new nest; we shall see as time goes on!!
@judycoyne7818 They are bonding while building this second nest. We'll see how big this nest will be. I think they will breed in the main nest as the new one is in a dead tree. ❤️❤️🦅🦅
Do eagles (in general) use one nest season after season & year after year? Does anyone know what would cause J&S to start a new nest? Thanks for the video❣️ I’m always thrilled to be able to see J&S 💝
No clue why. Maybe they are superstitious and think the old nest has bad mojo. 😂
This might be their “summer home?”
Maybe shadow just needs more sticks and to keep building. Something, anything.
@peekaboo7424 Eagles generally use one nest season after season. This new one seems to be their backup plan. It may be a holiday home. They will probably return to the old nest for the next breeding season. We'll see what they have in store for us.
Thanks a lot for your nice comment and for the questions. ❤️❤️🦅🦅😍🥰
@kate4121 🤣👍❤️
The mountain Chickadee name is Thomas 😂:) Thomas is so sweet
@ownSystem 🤣😍❤️❤️
Chickadee Thomas is a sneaky boy 😂
@@ownSystem Indeed! 🤣😍
Charming (and intriguing) footage :) As a lay person, although I know they keep bringing material throughout the nesting season (and this is, technically, breeding season - had things gone otherwise, we would have two eaglets there), it is obvious that more emphasis is laid on the new nest. From this angle, it looks precarious but, after all, there are three supporting limbs. Generally speaking, isn't is funny that they never bother to retrieve fallen sticks? 🤣 The real stick depos must be at the bottom of nesting trees!
@Luceforall You are right. There are probably plenty of sticks under SDS. Thanks a lot for such a nice comment! ❤️🥰😍🦅🦅
@@BirdlifeOdyssey You are very welcome - have a lovely weekend!
It sure looks like they are building a new nest in the snag tree.
@pumpupjam9648 Yes, it does. However, it can be their summer home or a backup nest. We'll see. ❤️❤️🦅🦅

@user-po2ee6rj6z Thank you very much! Merci beaucoup! ❤️😍🥰
Perhaps, as they age, they're going for the separate bed thing ?
@Jackie-bb8hp Maybe. 🤣😍
For now, they strengthen their ties while building it.
Thanks a lot for your comment! 😍🥰
I mean perching can be a bitch
I wonder if they Will be able to put a camera in the new nest tree eventually or will we have to view from afar? Not sure if it would be safe for the fobbycam team to climb that tree.
@De-birdy I think it would be possible to put the camera there if the eagles moved there. I hope they will find a safe way to do it if it turns out to be necessary. We'll see. Thanks a lot for your comment! ❤️🥰😍🦅🦅
maybe they're bald eagle equivalent of preppers and need to ensure their stick depot is fully stocked just in case they ever can't find the right stick. I couldn't believe what I was reading on the daily summary with all the activity reports on cam 2
@ursularight Yes, it could be that. They are also bonding while building this 'new nest'.
Thanks a lot for your comment! 🥰❤️🦅🦅
@@BirdlifeOdyssey thanks a lot for the selection of views, during the summer season, I tend to keep up by reading the daily summary once in awhile but I'd not read it in a while and it was too late to watch on Cam 2 so your selection was really welcome. Thank you

maybe they feel they would have better luck at new nest who know what they think TTE
@user-dh7cu6li5d Yes, we do not know what they think but we shall see soon. I think they will stick to their main nest for breeding.
Thanks for your comment! 🥰

Maybe a change of nest can bring better luck.
@salloom1949 I think they stick to the old nest for the next breeding season but we'll see what they have in store for us. Fingers crossed for them. Hopefully they'll have better luck next season!
Thanks a lot for your comment! ❤️❤️
Does anyone think this "new" nest may be just for bonding purposes?
@nicoleterio2963 Yes, it can be for boding purposes.
Will we still be able to watch them?
@sherri1170 Yes. They will be shown all year round. I think they will come back to their main nest during the breeding season like they did in the past. ❤️❤️🦅🦅
Maybe a vacation home
@susanwenger8448 Yes, it can be a vacation home for bonding purposes. They strengthen their ties while building it.
Thanks a lot for your comment! 😍🥰
Wif Jackie and shadow move, will Fiona move with them? I love her!😊
@diannesenko8414 Fiona should definitely move with them as their 'cleaning service'. Fiona cleans the nest at night and can fly so it is possible.
I think that Jackie and Shadow will not move to the new nest for the breeding season. It can be just their backup plan or a kind of summer home. We'll see.
Thanks a lot for your nice comments! ❤️❤️🦅🦅😍
Any idea how old Shadow and Fiona are?
@janetglover999 Jackie is 12, Shadow is 10. I have no idea how old Fiona the Flying Squirrel is. Thanks a lot for watching and asking! ❤️🥰😍
SDS is a gift to Spirit from Mom & Dad! His first starter home!!
@lauraschleicher7315 It would be great to see Spirit living there. ❤😍
Fbbv, might have to set up new cam o snag tree, if the birds are building new nest
@pumpupjam9648 I'm sure that they will do it if it turns out to be a new nest. ❤️🦅🦅
Hmmm... if the tree is dead, it would be a big danger to climb it, I would imagine.
thanks for sharing! do you know why they are building a new nest?
@jacobs4985 This is the way they bond. It can be their 'summer home', 'backup nest' if they finish it but they are most likely to return to their main nest for breeding.
Thanks a lot for your comment! ❤️😍
Shadow must maintain his title as “Stickman”! 💕💕
Why would they be building a new nest? Is this common?
@savinggraace Eagles can have a few nests but use only one of them for breeding. Jackie and Shadow have been using their main nest for many years now and they are unlikely to change it. This new nest is most probably for bonding purposes.
Thanks a lot for watching and for your comment! ❤️❤️🦅🦅
Maybe a summer home? 😃
@k2cjbradio Yes, it can be a sort of summer home for bonding in summer. The eagles bring sticks there and 'flirt' with other so it is another way of bonding for them.
Thanks a lot for your comment! ❤❤😍
love is a bad teacher
I'm not too sure about that area for a new nest because it looks so exposed. Couldn't they at least pick a tree that has some sort of leaf/needle protection!
@catherinecooper2360 You are right. This tree is not good for a nest. However, the nest building thing is another of their bonding rituals and this tree has always been their stick depot snag so it will most probably not be their breeding nest. They are most likely to return to the main nest for the next breeding season.
Thanks a lot for your comment! ❤❤❤❤😍😍
Guess they don't want cameras. Lol
@sharonperry5213 ❤❤😍
Are Jackie and Shadow building a new nest & will you be able to put cameras in it?
@maryannlafrance3413 Jackie and Shadow are boding while building a nest. However, they will most probably return to their main nest during the breeding season. I am not a camera owner but FOBBV is. I believe they will put cameras there if it turns out that the eagles prefer the new location.
Thanks a lot for your comment! 😍❤️
Mountain chickadee is working hard in J&S nest but not too sure what it’s doing?
@judycoyne7818 Mountain Chickadee finds something to eat there so it is a 'nest cleaning service' during the day, whilst Fiona cleans the nest at night. 😁🥰
Thank you very much for your nice comment! ❤️❤️🦅🦅
