@18:03 The crying guy has a bit of a sad backstory. He’s known as Beastmaster Malakili. He grew up in the slums of Nar Shaddaa, a crime-ridden city world. Lacking proper education, he could only get a job with the Hutt clans doing what he loved: training animals. He later became one of the best Rancor trainers in the galaxy but was sold into slavery after one of his Rancors escaped and killed a lot of people. Jabba would later buy him for the purpose to train his own Rancor, Pateesa, the one Luke later killed. After the death of Pateesa, Malakili tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Sarlaac pit only to find that it too was killed. He found new purpose when Sheriff Cobb Vanth hired him to take care of the beasts of burden and raise a baby Huttlet in his town of Freetown.

From what I remember, the original Legends timeline had a different ending for Malakili. He broke one of Jabba's cooks out of prison and opened up a restaurant that would become famous in its own right.

Adam said he was looking through the R2 sound library and was amazed that there was a file called "I dont know" and when he played it, it sounded exactly like a person saying I dont know.

Luke's lightsaber was going to be blue, even appeared like that in a lot of the advertising, however late on in production they decided to make it green so that it would show better against the blue sky in the Tattooine scenes.
The decision for Luke to have a twin sister was made during the production of Empire Strikes Back, and she was going to be a new character introduced in later movies. But during the production of this one they wanted to wrap it all up and thought introducing such an important character this late would be too much, so made her Leia as a shortcut.

Also there are differences between blue and green lightsabers. Jedi who have blue ones are more combat focused over being loyal to the force. While Jedi with green lightsabers are more loyal to the force over combat. They CAN fight, but only as a last resort. Essentially Jedi with blue lightsabers are more soldiers, while those with green lightsabers are more like monks. They would rather analyze the situation and find a solution without using force. They are loyal only to the force, above all else.

There is a deleted scene where we see Luke making his own lightsaber explaining the change from blue to green in universe. It's crazy looking back as this would be the first appearance of a green lightsaber, as of 2024 we've gotten so used to a wide range of colors across movies, shows, video games, comics etc. Personal favourite is yellow, Rocking that in Old Republic with white and yellow robes and a face mask.

11:59 Boba Fett original design concept actually has a cool connection to Stormtroopers.
Boba Fett's armour was originally white and meant to be worn by elite versions of the Stormtroopers, kind of like a "Super-trooper" with Boba Fett being one of these Elite Stormtroopers. They actually showed off Boba Fett's all white costume in 1978 when he was officially introduced in an interview.
In the 1978 Holiday Special Boba Fett was changed to a Bounty Hunter instead maintaining the overall same design but more gritty and dirty with a range of colours. This is his first appearance within any Star Wars media before showing up in Empire Strikes Back.
Boba also made his first public appearance in 1978 San Anselmo Country Fair parade where he walked alongside Death Vader in his Bounty Hunter outfit rather than the original clean all white armour showcased in an earlier 1978 video and concept art. So all these changes happened in 1978 going from an elite form of Stormtrooper to a cool Bounty Hunter. If Felt remained an Elite Stormtrooper then we would've saw a bunch of these guys in Empire Strikes Back.

Yes, I remember in the earliest lore Boba Fett's armor was said to be the standard outfit of Imperial Shock Troopers who had been active in the earliest days of the Empire. Now, after all the retcons and additional lore that have entered the new canon, we learn that the seemingly regular run-of-the-mill white-armored Imperial Stormtroopers are all considered elite shock troopers.

As many others are saying, the twins plot twist was not planned from the beginning, which is why there are things that don’t match up. Although Luke and Leia kissing in Empire still sorta makes sense because they didn’t know at the time. Leia makes a comment about “somehow” always knowing, but we kinda have to interpret it as the force making her feel some connection to him that she couldn’t fully understand. At least it’s pretty clear from the start of Empire that the intended romance is Han and Leia.

Everyone acts like they were constantly French kissing & Luke was fingerbanging her or something. It’s really not that deep. The only kiss that could be construed as a little ‘off’ was the one in Empire, but it was clearly to make Han jealous & there was no intimacy in it. Anything else was quick, half second pecks to the cheek & one to the lips. Not much different to how many cultures greet each other. I just don’t get why people seem so freaked out about it.

@@ItApproacheshe absolutely did not have 6 movies written before 4 happened. This was a rumor that got repeated so many times that people think it's a fact how.
He has said that he had ideas for the 6 movies, but never entire scripts written. His ideas were very vague. You can find the original script for A New Hope online. In it, it is clear that Darth Vader is an alien from a species called The Sith who needs a breathing apparatus since their people can't breathe air. It is clear that Anakin Skywalker is a different character entirely and that Luke has no sister. The entire script is written from the point of view of the Whills, an alien race that lives inside the Force who determine the destiny of all creatures.
Lucas had some basic ideas about what would happen in 1-6 but we're talking very basic. Most of them were changed dramatically, most between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. That's when he decided it would be more interesting if Darth Vader was Luke's father.
That's why Ben lies to Luke... Because when that movie was written and filmed, he wasn't lying to Luke.
It has been well documented that they only decided Leia would be his sister when they wrote Return of the Jedi.

Y'all love to act like the early drafts for Star Wars was his 'true vision' for Star Wars, and use the knowledge of those early drafts to try and paint George as a guy who was just doing things on the fly, while he did indeed improvise to an extent, the story overall WAS planned from the start, including the Prequels, hell he had Prequel concepts in some of the original scripts for the OT but removed them for the sake of making the story of the OT more simple.

    • @Zamrod
      @Zamrod Рік тому +5

@@Hybrid980 No it wasn't. It is clear if you read interviews with George and other people associated with the movies that he had no idea if he was going to get a second movie so he planned nothing beyond the first movie.
He says in interviews that he had an idea for what came before it, but it is clear that he was either lying about that or his "idea" was extremely basic. Like a couple sentences long at most.
Other people who helped him write the movies tell stories of coming up with the idea of Darth Vader being Luke's father after ANH came out and coming up with Leia being his sister after ESB came out. George wanted a mysterious sister to show up in the third movie but he was convinced that it was a bad idea to introduce a new character during the last movie.
Pablo Hidalgo, the guy at Lucasfilms in charge of continuity told me personally at a seminar (right before TPM came out) that George's ideas for 9 movies were very rough and that he originally planned them around the idea that Star Wars was about Good vs Evil and that the movies weren't really about Luke or Vader but about the cycles of Good and Evil rising and falling. But over the 20 years since the original series he had changed his mind and had decided that the story was about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker. Because of that he scrapped all plans for the last 3 movies and he had changed all his plans for the first 3 movies to match his new theme.
The prequel trilogy we got was very much not the one he had an idea of when writing the original trilogy.
So, no. George had no idea that he was going to do almost anything that happened in the prequel trilogy when these movies came out.

Oh girl, you can rock the Leia slave outfit whenever you want, Carrie Fisher still occassionally used it even a couple years before she passed. Even if the outfit is very objectifying Carrie still encouraged cosplayers to use it and own it as a symbol of Feminist empowerement.
If she was still here with us she would be happy that you use it.
Also Bobba Fett is the Green Stormtrooper look-a-like who was working with Jabba (he was in the previous movie too). And he is a Mandalorian by the way, not a stormtrooper.
Leia IS a Princess, she is the adoptive daughter of the Organa Family who ruled over Alderaan, the planet that was destroyed in the first movie. The reason why Luke uses the last name Skywalker and she doesn’t is because Luke’s uncles were part of Anakin’s actual family.

Leia was originally not intended to be Lukes twin. Thats something that Lucas changed when writing ep 6. He originally intended the story to go all the way to Ep 9, with Luke falling to the dark side and his twin having to turn him back. Luke's sister was going to be a separate character who got introduced in this film, but after Empire Strikes Back, George decided to cut the saga short and conclude the story. So Leia got retconned into being Luke's sister in order to tie up all the loose story threads.

I support the "No!" change though. Star Wars has always had inversions and that served as foley to parallel the first time we heard something close to it - trying to avoid spoilers. In face, as others have noted, in several cases, Lucas is actually using parts of dialogue as a form of foley and scoring. How that "Nooo!" will feel to someone, differs depending on where the emotional climax of the film lies for them. People for whom the emotional climax was the stoic deposing of Vader tend to hate it as a detraction. However as someone who considers the emotional climax of the film to be Sebastian Shaw's powerful and heart-breaking performance, it only adds to that transition, in the context of the prequels. As Obi Wan says in this movie, a great many of the truths we cling to, depend greatly upon our point of view. I'm going to guess that for you, the emotional climax of the movie is the former, rather than the later.
That's the interesting thing with the edits that were made to the SE and later BD versions of the film. Some edits I agree should never have been made, however there's usually a few changes which Lucas made to the Theatrical versions, which I usually completely agree with and support.

    • @a_fine_edition2746
      @a_fine_edition2746 9 місяців тому

The “No” change is just… terrible. It seriously undercuts the entire moment. I don’t care if it parallels the moment from Revenge of the Sith, since that scene is frankly undercut by the “No” as well. They both come off as supremely overly-melodramatic. Vader should’ve just cried out in utter anguish at the loss of Padme, instead of bellowing “nooooooo” like he’s in a stage play. A visceral, violent scream of despair would’ve been far preferable, and James Earl Jones I think is more than capable of pulling something like that off. Hell, the pained groans and grunts as he crushes and destroys everything around him sound perfect. More of that, please.
As for the added “No” in Return of the Jedi, it literally drowns out Luke yelling “father!” as well as the triumphant swell of the Force theme when Vader finally makes his move, which is literally one of my favorite moments in the franchise. Plus it’s just a dumb move tactically for Vader to basically announce his intentions before grabbing the Emperor. Just overall an unneeded change that sucks the last seconds of tension from the scene. You shouldn’t have to be told what Vader’s about to do before he does it.

There are two reasons why Luke changed his lightsaber color. 1, the blue rotoscoping affect did not contrast with the blue sky, and the lightsaber would just look like nothing. And 2, Luke lost his hand during his duel on a Bespin. And needed another. He built his from scratch using an old journal Obi-Wan kept in his domicile. But he needed a crystal in canon continuity, the green crystal belonged to another Jedi long dead that was a close friend of Kenobi’s. In legends Luke forged his own from a rock he purchased from a jewel dealer in mos eisly.

    1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue.
    2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it through Luke.
Luke didn't know that until just before then.
    3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they
decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape.
    4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying
to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related.
    5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han.

Some versions of this movie actually have one of the spiders move through the background as the huge outer door closes, putting the spider-monk in silhouette. Jabba never bothered to remove the monks, who wander akmlessly, probably unaware of the physical world.

Luke mentions his father several times before the big Darth Vader reveal and you can't help but wonder what Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru told him about his mom. Originally, Luke and Obi-Wan's talk on Dagobah was longer and delved into the (unnamed at the time) mother's background and death. The scene was in the shooting script as well as the novelization of Return of the Jedi. I can only assume that George Lucas decided to cut it so that it wouldn't conflict with the prequels if and when he made them. At the time, Lucas had grown tired of his own creation, and it was uncertain if there would ever be more Star Wars films.

    Noooooooo, I can't wait for part 2!
Anyway, as for some of your questions:
Luke has a new lightsaber because the one he inherited from Anakin dropped all the way from Cloud City into the gas giant Bespin below it, alongside his hand. It gone.
His new one's green due to practical reasons, because another blue one would've vanished into the blue sky backdrop of the sail barge battle.
You _are_ watching the Special Editions (aka the regularly available, up-to-date versions of the films) but that's only really noticeable during small, select bits, like the musical number, where the singers were replaced with more expressive animated versions of themselves.
They didn't really change anything about the tone of the film though, which just naturally flip-flops between light-heartedness and tragedy, in typical Lucas fashion.
Boba Fett was the bounty hunter that followed Han, led the Empire to Cloud City and brought frozen Han to Jabba.
Although his fate in this film was somewhat sudden and comedic, he's quite the significant figure in this galaxy and you should keep his name and "face" in mind.
Leia was not always supposed to be Luke's sister. Though Lucas always had a bigger picture in mind, the original trilogy was a novel and shaky production and quite a bit of it was a product of improvisation and compromise. Luke's sister was originally supposed to be an entirely new female character that a subsequent trilogy was supposed to introduce and explore (which has absolutely nothing to do with the Disney-produced sequel trilogy). However, when Lucas decided to keep it a trilogy for the time being, Luke's mysterious sister and Leia merged into the same character, similar to Luke's father and Vader one movie prior. That also explains the sketchy kisses between them. Not only didn't they know any better, George didn't either.
Your frustration with the old Jedi masters is absolutely valid and will only be underscored by the prequels. Some people take it a bit too far and say that the Jedi were villains, which they weren't, but they were certainly deeply flawed heroes, in ways that you can still very much see in old Kenobi and Yoda.
You'll also see the powers of the Emperor in full force in the prequels, unfortunately. Such a monster. Jabba is a swell guy compared to him.
Your love for the bridge talk on Endor tells me that you'll love the prequels. You complimented the dramatic, theatre-esque performances of the young actors in it, which the prequels, especially episodes two and three, beautifully double down on.
I also can't wait for you to meet Leia's mom. I love how much her description as "kind and sad" moved you. She really was so very kind...and so very sad. :'(
Don't keep us waiting too long! Happy New Year and MTFBWY!

In Star Wars, there is a meaning to the different color light sabers. But in this case they changed a blue light saber to green. It's because the blue light saber wouldn't stand out when they had the fight scenes outside of Joba's palace.

In Return of the Jedi, Jabba is portrayed by a one-ton puppet that took three months and half a million dollars to construct. While filming the movie, the puppet had its own makeup artist. The puppet required three puppeteers to operate, making it one of the largest ever used in a motion picture. - Google
