Great work. So cool getting away from software and a whole bunch of technical stuff to keep it simple, portable and create something that sounds great.
Thanks, I came up with this connecting idea and I had to test it immediately. Will try this with the with the korg volca beats, bass ,keys together in the next days. I think it's a great way to get some nice groove shadows in the background.
Yeah, there are a lot more possibilities than connecting only audio outs to merge together with that belkin style merger! It works with CV, too!! Now there are a lot of companies on the market imitating the belkin rockstar. Maybe the volcas are guilty for that ;) ˆˆ
Having the tron on it's own channel helps tame some of it's lofi noise as well. Bought one of those Belkin Rockstars too after watching this. Pretty cool and simple little solution.
Like the noise, too. Sometimes just sitting in front of the monotron delay and playing with the evolving noises, which accure on a self looping feedback.
taschenrechnermusikant I like to set the filter all the way open, delay time super short, and crank the feedback to self oscillation. I slowly turn up the time, which pitches down the oscillation. Next I do a few quick filter sweeps to almost closed to get a nice bass rhythm going. Once you get that loop how you like it, if you keep the filter knob at about 12:00 you will get almost a kick feel, when you open it up more you start to get more hissy kind of high hat sounds.
Really nice music and soundwise. I like that gritty lo fi noise swells you get with the delay! You have great feel for tension and timing as well. How do you controll the input level of your feedback loop? And doesn't the monotron always send the dry signal through? When I make feedback loops with a delay and a mixer I always turn the delay 100% wet, other wise I always get this high annoying feedback that you rather don't want to hear. Btw Fusion rocks! Where in Germany doe you live?
Simon Smyth Thanks, there not really an input level for the delay, I use the volumen of the monotron to controll the amount and feedback of the delay and there is alway a dry signal. The volumen of the monotron has to be set carefully, on louder settings you get the these high feedbacks iiiiis. I come from Hanover.
Are you actually sending the beats into the delay or is it just delay into delay? The feedback knob on the delay will do this without the patching or splitting. And unlike the other monotrons you don't need a cable patched into the input to engage the filter. just crank the fb and you'll start the loop. cool song anyway. great jam.
+datapark710 With loop I ment the loop of cable (maybe thats wrong? I'm not a native speaker). Beats and delay going in the delay and the effect is slightly different from using it in serial connection and you can set amount/volume of the delay effect using the main volume of the Monotron Delay.
i have a monotron delay myself, and it produces terrible background noise. it's basically impossible to get a more or less clear sound, when recording. so the question is how did you reduce it? did you cut it in post-production?
Yeah, its a noisy little bastard but I like that. You get better results when you use as a send/return effect to keep a dry signal. In the case of the video I used a audio splitter/merger to keep a part of the signal clean (its not a proper way).
+Eric Dufresne volca beats is analog it can not sample anything (sampling is a digital process) ; my bet is that he is using monotron as delay for the beats using the audio aux ; monotron delay has feedback and LFO (and vco!), it is a very fun and powerful tool, crunchy but very satisfying : cheers :)
+TheOrangepeak in fact by putting the feedback knob to the right, it's like a freeze mod, the effect will continue to build itself over and over, hence the feedback loop
Hey, I have a Volca Sample and a Monotron Delay. When I connect the output of the Delay to the splitter, the whole (previously stereo) signal becomes a mono signal. So the panning effects of the Volca Sample have no effect. Do you have any idea how to solve this issue?
+Laurenz Schreiber There is no solution in case you want to use 2 Monotron delays :(. The Montron Delay is just mono, double mono (to be exact) cause it got a 3pin jack. I think the do this with stereojacks cause there are more compatible and cheaper, but its just a mono circuit. Just for the record, the Volca Beats, Bass and Keys are double mono too.
Awesome stuff dude! digging the song. Also I am very curious how you recorded the song and uploaded the file to soudcloud? Im not sure of an easy way to record music made from volcas, and you seem to have done it perfectly here. Any tips would be great thanks
+Johan Balzer I recorded video and audio separately and put it together using Adobe After Effects (but you can use any video software). I use www.landr.com for mastering the audio. For audioediting I use Audacity.
+taschenrechnermusikant cool thanks a lot for that. im more wondering how you physically got the audio onto your computer, so you could then get it into landr.com and audacity?
+taschenrechnermusikant Oh i see! it souds amazing thanks for that. Im looking for more of a direct input from the volcas to the computer for recording. I think I may try using a behringer UCA222, or something like that. keep up the music man!
Yes, you can use it as a passive mixer. But some people say these splitters are not good for your gears. I used them some years and nothing happened so far.
By the way, I recommend to buy the belkin. I bought another splitter first, wich causes strange problems with the sync of the volcas and the splitter was only connected to audio.
It can potentially damage ur gears because there are no resistors built in. If u r using one input and several outputs, that's fine. Using multiple inputs is not good, better buy or build a proper passive mixer with resistors.
So first signal is coming from volca to splitter, then goes to AUX in monotron, then signal from monotron goes back to splitter and the to the speakers, am I right?
+Marcel Dijkstal To reduce the noise you should keep the cutoff completely open, and dont turn the feedback knob over 1 o'clock. Thats the cleanest sound you can get with the monotron delay.
+Jere Vibart There is no sync, it just took some time to adjust the delay time with those small knobs of the monotron delay. I put some bigger knobs on the tran lately.
In the case of this video it's gone direct in, cause I used this belkin device to "mix" the volca beats and the monotron. In other videos I used mostly a Behringer DDM4000 because of the additional effects and 3-band filters.
Great work. So cool getting away from software and a whole bunch of technical stuff to keep it simple, portable and create something that sounds great.
Your profile pic, best
I still keep coming back to this, such an inspirational piece of art youve created here, with such minimal set of tools, pure genius.
Came for a demo of the gear but stayed for the music. That was amazing!
I´m glad to hear that :)
Hifi is NOT the way to go! This is awesome stuff.
Monotron Delay. King of budget gadgets !
DJKevvy Kev Yes the Korg Monotron Delay is a cheap little lofi badass :)
I am definitely even more excited to buy a m-tron delay now. this looked like a buttload of fun
+NoyzBot Yes, it is !
It’s an all purpose portable kinda thing. I have one but will probably pick up another one.
Few people can do this...with few things. Great sound.
Thank you.
Go ahead!
clever to use the claves and pcm speed to create a melodic sequence!
mini instruments and Fx, very big and pretty cool sounds!
GREAT SESSION!
Great jam man, this video convinced me to pick up both Volca Beats and the Delay. Keep up the stellar jams!
This is the combo jam I've been waiting for. Great job dude.
Thanks, I came up with this connecting idea and I had to test it immediately. Will try this with the with the korg volca beats, bass ,keys together in the next days. I think it's a great way to get some nice groove shadows in the background.
This is really enjoyable, and very inventive. You should be proud.
The Monotron makes it sound dirty, noice little set that shows off both machines. Good job.
Superb what can be achieved with so little - brilliant stuff :-)
nice loop. monotron is an overlooked gem.
Great job! I freakin love my monotron delay! I'm connecting everything to it : )
Never occurred to me to keep part levels down and mute them before bringing them in. Great tip and video, thank you!
Its somthing I learned to do for playing live gigs just to see qickly which tracks are in atm.
nice work! Love the simplicity, texture and space.
That was gorgeous man. Firing.
just bought myself this little trio after watching this.. looking forward to getting into it cheers :-)
Awesome... so much from so little 😎

Awesome work. Gettin' your money's worth on these little machines.
yes, big fun for small money.
Having the tron on it's own channel helps tame some of it's lofi noise as well. Bought one of those Belkin Rockstars too after watching this. Pretty cool and simple little solution.

Caley Dorrell Thats a good description to get lost with the feedback noises :)
Well done, thanks for the technique!
This is sick 👊
DUDEE YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
Sounds amazing. You have inspired me to get both of these!
Booth the Volca Beats and the Monotron Delay are great gear. Especially for performance.
I really LOVE this track, thank you :)
That was quite the journey. Thank you!
This is badass. I'm getting a monotron delay soon and will do this with my volca sample through it. Gonna be too much fun.
Its a lofi little bastard - my favorite one trick pony.
great use of inexpensive gear - loved the tune
Pretty clever, pretty cool!
Sounds great! Wonder how it would sound without the Belkin and just volca to monotron?
This is awesome!! Well done!!
Very talented
that was nice dude. thinking to get the same Setup... like it
Ach. So...ich glaub wir waren auf der gleichen Fusion, also im selben Jahr
good stuff! really interesting...
Really nice music and soundwise. I like that gritty lo fi noise swells you get with the delay! You have great feel for tension and timing as well.

This is fucking mental I was jamming the whole time
So good keep on!
the delay itself is what forty bucks its a steal
just great, my respect dear sir
God damn this is sic!🔥👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🖤
very crunchy and danceable !
Brilliant!
amazing!
The Beats' kick is so fucking righteous.
sounds really good : nice noises
mine on James Bond camp ;) just type Rapides / Dirty Bongo
Damm great stuff!
Really like how you started
Очень круто, чувак!!!
nice one mate 👍
So good!
real patience is a gift;-)
monotron duo and delay both bought together is 65 bucks 70 bucks i cant wait
what an absolute banger. are all the drum sounds just from the volca?
Yes, all sounds pure Korg Volca Beats.
Maaan that ending sound was niceee!!! 😎
Rare track which I met coincidently.
nice performance!
Hallo
Was ist das für ein stecksystem über das die Verbindung steht?
Bernd
Those the monotron makes I swear I’ve felt before.
Banging!
Very cool. How are you set up? Beats output into belkin, and delay input and output both into the belkin?
exactly
so cool!!!!
I bought ALL of the Volca's. So are the two instruments talking to each other plugged into the round 6-input/output device?
Nice one! How did you connect the volca with monotron? External audio?
Very cool!
beautiful
Excellent tune and thanks for the kit list, are you running into a daw or an external mixer?
In this case I recorded with a Mac Book, but any other recording device should done the job.
Thanks for the further info :)
great inspiration! thank you is this the original sound or did you process it?
I think I just done some normalizing.
Are you actually sending the beats into the delay or is it just delay into delay? The feedback knob on the delay will do this without the patching or splitting. is the monotron being sampled threw the volca? i think its is actually... very cool stuff man.

Wait, is that a Belkin Rockstar being used as a mixer?
Yes and as a merger at the same time. Dont do this at home.

+taschenrechnermusikant Oh i see! it souds amazing thanks for that. Im looking for more of a direct input from the volcas to the computer for recording. I think I may try using a behringer UCA222, or something like that. keep up the music man!
sorry to bother you but can u explain me another way to connect this two awesome things without that white adapter cause i dont have one, thanks
+Ivan Vibart you can get those on ebay for like 2 dollars, look up headphone splitter
Would one of those star/splitters work as a passive mixer? I'm trying to get my monotrons together but don't want huge apparata.
Yes, you can use it as a passive mixer. But some people say these splitters are not good for your gears. I used them some years and nothing happened so far.
That was why I was worried. Sending output to output can cause some digital devices to go nuts, but I will try it anyway. Thanks!

Great work, only thing is that the transitions should be faster.
So first signal is coming from volca to splitter, then goes to AUX in monotron, then signal from monotron goes back to splitter and the to the speakers, am I right?
Yes, exactly.
OK, thnx for reply. Very good, ascetic track BTW, I'm impressed : )
Thanks, my pleasure :)
can someone please tell me how can I sync volca beats to Presonus Studio one ? I'd like to buy the volca but only if I'll know how to sync it
Cant you use the MIDI IN of the Volcas?
Use a audio interface with midi capability and use a midi cable.
yeah!!!!!
Am I correct in thinking the splitter you have can take two devices outputs? Seems the belkin can only take one..
The Belkin is a splitter and a merger at the same time every connection can be used as an input or an output.
Cheers dudes worked it out last night.. Thanks for ur reply.. and ur inspiration gonna start using in anger tonight!
taschenrechnermusikant whats the way for used as a input or output?I mean, how you choose between them?
taschenrechnermusikant also good work!!! too good!
maxdiemek You dont choose, it's alway both. Everything goes in and out on all connectors.
woooooooooooooowww..........booooooommm
how did you get the noise out of the monotron delay? you used a noise supressor?
+Marcel Dijkstal To reduce the noise you should keep the cutoff completely open, and dont turn the feedback knob over 1 o'clock. Thats the cleanest sound you can get with the monotron delay.
Very clever!
What is that adapter called!!?? I need one. The white multi plugin ???
The Adapter is the Belkin Rockstar - amzn.to/1ran53P
Belkin rockstar
Richie Hawtin! ^^
Thanks! Fun.
Fusion! ❤😂😮😊
Great!
where did you cop that merger/splitter?? sounds insane
amzn.to/2lwXGFx
very good
can you explain me how you sync everything, please
+Jere Vibart There is no sync, it just took some time to adjust the delay time with those small knobs of the monotron delay. I put some bigger knobs on the tran lately.
Awsome :)
FUSION!!! :)
+RealityMan :D
what do you usually use to record your sets ?
I record the audio with audacity on my computer and put it under the video footage.
taschenrechnermusikant Thanks for the info ! :)
Does the audio go through something like a mixer or such before you run it into the computer ?
In the case of this video it's gone direct in, cause I used this belkin device to "mix" the volca beats and the monotron. In other videos I used mostly a Behringer DDM4000 because of the additional effects and 3-band filters.
Coooollllll!
nice,i have volca keys and im looking for take volca beats
