Thank you for the supercut 3:31:47 This is where I gave up on this game, that's for sure. I got frustrated, took a break, played something else, and never went back.
39:22 I would like to point this out but reducing level security to zero has no effect on enemy spawns as each level has their own set respawn mechanics for certain enemy types (which in some cases it is possible to prevent spawning for good on certain levels) in the original system shock. The Hospital Level only has respawns for the Humanoid Mutant if the population dips below 10, the other enemies on this level are fair game to kill as they will not respawn
@@Reshithewhite Interesting. Even My old gaming magazines are wrong then, and understandably so. They've really made it feel like lowering security lowers respawns, but perhaps it's a coincidence and by the time the player has blasted through the level to get to all the nodes they've killed enough enemies to cap the spawns. Live and learn!
Agreed, I‘ve noticed that a lot of people on their playthroughs tend to get to the level nodes relatively late usually into that level so that’s probably another reason as the respawning enemies likely just respawned in an area they don’t need to revisit. But anyways I actually learned about this from another UA-camr on here called Travis Whitsitt. He did a let’s play on the OG System Shock and did a really great job at explaining how the game’s respawns work at the start of each episode/deck and even managed to avoid some respawns/trap a few enemies (Most notably the Inviso-Mutants on Level 3). Glad I could be of help ^-^
Maybe I am weird, but I think the controls of SS1 are fantastic and I wish more modern games could be made with a similar approach. People tend to forget that in SS1 you don't just shoot at enemies, but you need to interact with the enviroment in complex ways. Using a mouse cursor to get and move objects, push buttons, aim & shoot, etc. Is completely intuitive and elegant. The main movements are managed in parallel with the left hand on the keyboard, in a completely equivalent "wads" fashion, with additional movements like rotation, strafing, leaning, etc., mapped effectively around the "wads" keys.
@@nifftbatuff676 Nah, I get it. And in the end, I got used to the controls rather quickly. But there's also no getting around how they've been one of the most mentioned barrier of entry since the 90's due to their initially complex nature. I do think that games like the sequel, or even the Enhanced Edition, came up with a pretty good symbiosis of the systems by allowing for quick mode switching between shoot and interact modes.
@@Chaosherold That's a hard one. Probably 2 or the remake. As much as I appreciate all of them, the first one has not entirely aged well, and in my opinion for the most part the same story is told better in the remake.
Yep, been waiting on this one!
Thank you for the supercut

I believe System Shock CD controls could be remapped but outside of the game, in a text or config file.
