WOW!! Ms Vanessa....once again, a showstopper project and scrap buster as well. Super easy you've made this go to handy dandy storage carry-all a cinch to create/construct in literally minutes. I have already 4 in mind to make for my 2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons as stocking stuffers for Christmas. Me being a guy too...find many uses for this convenient go to project besides cords. The sky is the limit...and I am sure my grands will find multiple uses for them as well.

Have made seven of these with R-Form. Then made one with fusible batting type of interfacing. Actually like the softer interfacing better. It rolls easier. Thanks so much for all you have taught me.

I LOVE Your Tutorials. Thanks so much. The one thing I did different was used normal quilt batting. My reason being it that it will be less bulky to fit in my my carryon bag The other reason... It was all I had on hand. I think that sewing sections to all the layers is a great idea for better durability.

Hi Vanessa, I've made a lot of your cord roll ups for family and friends and I'm wondering if it could be modified to fit decks of playing cards. My granddaughter loves to go to her friends house to play cards and carries her cards in a bag. I would love to make her something like this to fit her cards and maybe a tablet and pen. Could you please help me out?
Thanks for the tutorial. One question when you are doing the elastic section, could you sew from the top down, then when you get to the elastic do the back stitches, then go down to next elastic row, back stitch, then continue down to bottom?
Sure! I like to keep it unstitched in some areas because the foam is thick and I think it rolls easier for me but that’s totally up to you. I only show one way to make it. You can make it your own! Happy sewing!
What is the white pen used to mark the elastic? Where can I get it?
I followed the supply link for the foam stabilizer to get some and it said it’s doubled sided fusible. Did you just not want to mess with fusing it and that’s why you used the basting spray instead? I just want to make sure I get the right stuff. Sorry I’m a fairly new to sewing and was wondering if I was to use the double sided fusible foam (that’s what the link goes to) when making the exterior piece what would I do to keep the fusible from getting on my ironing surface?
Jaclyn, I use the double sided foam stabilizer and I lay a piece of plain freezer on my ironing board, it works great!
Hi Vanessa, Why do you use the foam for this project?..and is it really required?...or can you substitute with another like fusible batting?..cotton batting?
I like the thicker body but it's personal preference. You can use whatever you want to suit your needs. Just know that if you use fusible fleece it will be flimsier than if you used foam and using batting will be the lightest/flimsiest of the above options. I say, make a sample and see if you like it first. Happy sewing!

Hi Vanessa, I decided to try making this using Decor Bond as my strong hold batting along with additional cotton batting to both pieces in not having the foam on hand. Well I'm pleased to say it came out great to giving the added strength hold needed for the elastic. The other change I made was adding an additional (3rd) piece of elastic across for placement on the cords. Happy to say it all gave me the result I was hoping for! :)) Thank you for this tutorial! :)
What's the difference in fold-over elastic and just plain/regular elastic?
Great project.
It’s lighter and more easily stretchable and designed to be used as binding in raw edges of fabric like leg openings in cloth diapers and babywear waistbands, etc.

Love this. However, I would have sewn the sections/dividers on the interior piece prior to sewing the two, exterior and interior pieces together, to hide the stitches on the exterior.
As I explain in the video I sew through all the layers so the lining fabric won’t separate from the exterior when you stretch the elastic compartments and add the weight of several cords. The elastic gets a lot of wear and tear and stretching and I prefer it sewn to something more stable. But whatever works for you!

Why not put the "lining" on the outside, that allows you to sew the elastic divisions to the foam BEFORE you sew the two pieces together. There is no rule that says the foam has to be the exterior fabric, so I don't know why you did not do the foam for the inside, attach the elastic and do the sectioning to that and then sew the two sides together and top stitch because that would then not show all the sectioning stitching on the outside. Allows for an unblemished outside, and it would also allow for an applique or monogram to be done on that outside.
There are many ways to make any project. I chose to make mine this way because I like the feeling of thicker foam on the exterior. Do whatever works for you! 👍🏽
